Victor came on time and he was very informative and taught me a lot about my unit! Very affordable prices compared to other companies.

This company does some really good work, but it's hit or miss. They are expensive compared to…read moreShamrock Plumbing (that I usually use). I had American give a quote for a new AC unit (that I ended up purchasing through Century Air & Heat). American's quote was about $7K more than the equivalent size, but less efficient, two stage unit compared to variable stage unit we purchased. I did have an issue with Shamrock not being able to fix a dripping shower head. American was able to find the part that would stop my shower from dripping. The only issue is that it caused the handle of my shower to turn in the wrong direction - the two handles would hit when the wall showerheads and rain shower were on at the same time. American felt like this was an acceptable fix because it stopped leaking. The technician told me there was no part (cartridge) available that turned the opposite direction. The first cartridge they ordered leaked so they had to order a replacement from the manufacturer under a product default warranty. I called the cartridge manufacture and found an equivalent part that did turn in the opposite direction. The technician still insisted this part would not work. I ordered two of the cartridges at my own expense (about $200). After they were delivered, I had to pay an additional $350 for a technician to come out to install the part. Unlucky for me, both of the cartridges I ordered were faulty. I contacted the company I purchased the parts from and they were able to submit a warranty claim for me. The new cartridges arrived in about two weeks. American sent a tech back out, and the first cartridge installed leaked again. He looked at it closer and thought that it was the o-ring area that was leaking. I suggested to add a second o-ring from one of the multiple other cartridges I had. It worked to stop the leaking. I was not charged for this visit. My biggest issue with American is their customer service and management. I feel like they should have been responsible for ordering the correct cartridge once I found out they ordered the one turning in the wrong direction. I also feel like I should not have been charged for them coming out to try to install the cartridges. I was not allowed to speak to a manager. Their customer service person said I could send an email to them and they would forward it to the manager. I sent an email explaining the situation with the picture of my shower handles hitting each other and received no return email or phone call. When the technician came out to install the cartridges. I ordered for my shower, he said that his work order was for a kitchen faucet so he didn't have the correct tools. He ended up having the initial technician come to the house with the correct tools. All of their technicians are certified for plumbing, electric, and HVAC. I think my experience was out of the ordinary, but after dealing with them over three months for my shower situation, I cannot give a higher than 3/5 stars. I am now an expert on shower cartridges if anyone has questions.

To be clear, we have been very happy with the system itself--a two-stage Lennox heat pump that has performed well. Over the past couple of years, we've also had consistently positive experiences with their team; every technician who has come to our home has been professional and great to work with. Unfortunately, our most recent experience was a significant departure from that. When the system failed, they initially couldn't clearly diagnose the issue--which I understand can happen with complex systems. However, I was told they would need to replace the motor for $850 just to see if that resolved it, and if not, the next step would be an additional repair costing over $3,000... on a two-year-old system. While the part itself was under warranty, the $850 labor quote came with no itemized breakdown or explanation--just "that's what we charge to get the job done." When I asked to speak with a manager, I was told someone would contact me promptly. That did not happen. Over the next four days, I had to repeatedly call, only to be told managers were "busy," all while my system was down. Eventually, I spoke with someone filling in--not a full-time manager--who reduced the labor charge to $500, but again could not provide any detail behind the pricing. At that point, I felt I had no real choice but to proceed given the circumstances. The technician who came out was professional and completed the repair in roughly 30 minutes. Despite how quick and straightforward the fix appeared, I was still charged the full $500 with no transparency on how that cost was determined. The system itself is good, and our prior experiences had been positive, which makes this situation even more disappointing. Several things went wrong here, but most concerning were the lack of pricing transparency and the difficulty reaching management--especially during a system outage. That falls well short of what I would expect from a company selling premium systems and service.
