The only reason we stopped here was that there were geocaches here. We immediately recognized that this must have been a landfill especially since we saw the current one across the highway. They did an awesome job converting this into a park. This should be required of all landfills. Actual hills in Florida - what a rare sight. We understand they have their own olympic cauldron (the flame they use to burn off the methane produced from the landfill). Lots of different sporting uses in this park - biking, walking, soccer, softball, fishing, "mountain biking", etc. Congratulations to whoever made this possible. read more

Dyer Park - Walkway - Parks Near Me - West Palm Beach, Florida

For 20 years (1968-1989) trucks hauled trash to the the 445 acre Dyer Boulevard Landfill site until it finally closed. In April of 1995 the old landfill was turned into a park. The waste authority paid the $5 million to build the park per an agreement they made. They needed to purchase some parcels of land the county did not own from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation. The foundation required that once the landfill closed it had to be turned into a park. The waste authority wanted to make the park a showcase of recycling and they used compost, mulch and plastic lumber and other recycled materials wherever possible. A restroom, two baseball diamonds, four soccer fields, a picnic area, lakes for boating and fishing, hiking trails, equestrian trials, and walking paths and a mountain bike challenge course were added to what was once a large modern garbage dump. Most of the park is spread out in between the four garbage hills. All four landfills hills were covered with a plastic liner and topped with two feet of soil and grass. You can see this park from the turnpike. I have often passed it and was intrigued because you never see hills in Florida. Across the street is the landfill that is currently being used. With nothing but time I finally stopped to see what was here. I took the trail from the parking lot to the top of the hill and it ended up being a mile. This was a fun and unique way to work out because it is difficult to find an incline unless you use a gym machine. From the top of the hill you could see people playing on the sports fields down below. All along the trail people were exercising at a safe distance apart. Even so the City of Palm Beach has now closed the park. read more

Update: i went there today, again. Place has great potential and it sucks that it's being ruined by people. On my 40 minute walk I saw this on different spots- empty glass bottles of beer, dog bags with poop, tortillas (yes, tortillas with mayo and some beef on it) soda plastic cups, and one used condom! Not sure there is anyone cleaning up, i saw a guy who drives around in the golf cart but just passing that garbage. Also, again, almost got run over by the truck that was speeding on the road for walkers/biker.. reading all those good reviews makes me wonder if it's just me and my luck??? or I'm just too observant... read more

I lived in WPB for a few years and also passed this park a few times, not even knowing of its awesomeness and versatility. I stumbled upon the park on a post from a fitness trainer a friend was promoting on their page. Took an early morning to check it out and I was in awe of the many options 5K walking path, bike trail, an awesome mountain bike trail, basketball court and more. I have used the walking trails many times (always looking for the gators). On the weekends it is more active with fitness trainers and more. One thing Florida lacks is recreational parks and i loved to see many people with their pets and families enjoying the outdoors. read more

I go to this park every chance I get, though it's pretty far from where I live. It features a man-made mountain biking course around the perimeter of the park, and though I don't own a bike, I do love to walk the trail. I think it's around 4.6 miles, and you really feel like you're out in the middle of nowhere while you're on the course. It's a lot of fun to walk, especially with the changes in elevation and such. One thing to note is that the park is unsupervised and pretty remote. I have seen a few snakes and an alligator or two, so if you're going to walk this thing like I do, be careful. read more

This is an amazing place to go . So many things to do . I have always gone to hang out on the top of the hill with my dog . Nobody is ever up there so it's a great place to lay out a blanket & be able too take her off her leach & play fetch . We have mason walked the back side of the park that's paved. There are clean public rest rooms there , soccer field , driving range , kids park , basket bAll courts , 5K hike , bike paths . Yesterterday wasn't my first time walking the nature preserve . It was beautiful !! Tons of wild like , some of the path is paved , can launch canoes , kayaks , paddle boards , some of the path isn't paved but , still well maintained . Bike trails are awesome also. The also have a remote control airplane area. read more

This park is located close to Military Trail and Blue Heron right off of Haverhill. This is REALLY a great park for running or biking or soccer or walking. The park used to be a dump and was turned into a park so you have hills galore! There is a gofling area in there, a biking area, a fishing area, playground, tennis courts a basketball court and I am sure more that I am missing. I have used the playground area and also have run a few paths. They even have a path you can walk or run and look down at the rest of the park. I love this park. It's never busy when we go maybe because it's usually during the week. This park is super spacious and well manicured/taken care of. There are bathrooms and lots of trash cans. There's some great hills to run up near the fields. This park is beautiful and a great place to come workout or spend some time outside. read more

Love how this park is so unique compared to other parks in the area, aka there are hills! We brought our dog with us to walk around the park and explore what it had to offer. We stayed on the paths and was blown away at all the offerings this park had- soccer fields, baseball fields, tons of open space, bike trails, etc. Excited to go back and explore some more! read more

I love this park. Nice clean trails with beautiful views of the lake and the surroundings. Tons of beautiful birds to watch. When I'm in town for work I like to take my dog for walks around this park. The park feels very secluded. Typically never see more then a few people while I'm there. Highly recommended. read more

Review for biking only: There are basically three sets of bike paths here. A paved loop/path that's about 5 miles long. Then there are two different single track paths -- the almost 5 mile perimeter trail, and the 2.5 mile trail on the "hill." The perimeter track is fun, but mostly flat. The minimal challenge comes from some roots. Otherwise it's pretty easy and great for beginners. Mostly shaded by trees, so it's not bad to ride in the hot Florida sun. The "hill" is crushed shell (and a little sandy in spots). It's basically a bunch of switchbacks going up and down. Some decent berms. This trail is 99% in the sun, so it's not the best to ride in the heat of the day. This park is built on an old garbage dump, but is surprisingly odor-free. It's not "mountain biking" (c'mon - it's Florida - we don't have mountains!), but it is some decent single track. read more

Has a great great mountain bike trail around 4 miles along the perimeter of the park. Good for beginners. Rarely run into other people on the trail. They also have some trails on top of a hill, but these are tiring and just not as much fun. read more
