We hired Fawzia Kahook of DWE decor who now works at Laplace banquet center in akron ohio, for my daughter's wedding reception on may 22,2021. She did a good job with the pre wedding event on may 21st but let us down miserably for the reception. She under decorated the stage and out of the 27 tables, she only did 6 floral centerpieces and did not do the centerpieces we had discussed for the other tables. She arrived 3 hours later than she was supposed to, at the venue. She informed me that even if her staff had arrived 3 hrs earlier , they would not have been able to do anything in her absence. It is unbelievable that a decorator would not go over the plans for the decor with her staff prior to the event.When I asked her if she was satisfied with her work on may 22, her answer was a definite NO. She even admitted that if she had had the 3 hrs , she would have been able to finish what she was supposed to do. Fawzia has poor time management and the quality of her work is not consistant which makes it difficult to trust her with any event. She is not organized and frequently does not read her emails. My daughter had been planning this wedding for 2 years- she had to cancel last year due to covid. My daughter is extremely organized and sent multiple emails with pictures, images etc of her vision.(I also sent them to Fawzia).My daughter emailed her the wedding mood board she had created with stage and decor ideas including floral colours and centerpiece ideas.Yet , 6 days before the wedding, Fawzia still did not have an idea of her vision for the stage or centerpieces. she told me she gets so many emails and texts, she doesnt have time to open them. Listed are pros and cons in working with Fawzia (originally associated with DWE Decor, now works with LaPlace Events). Even after verbalizing our concerns, she was not receptive to any remediation. I would caution future brides in working with her, and if you do - please watch over her day to day to ensure that she actually follows through with your budget and vision. (Our wedding was May 22, 2021). Pros: a) Friday's event was extraordinarily beautiful in decor. She did the designs we had discussed and went over and beyond with the decor. b) Saturday: The memory table, seating chart, and guestbook were beautiful. Cons: a) Fawzia is in such high demand that she spreads herself thin. Thus, the quality of her work is not consistent - as she had multiple weddings during our wedding weekend. The Saturday event was lackluster in decor. b) She is inconsistent in punctuality. On several occasions with my mom - Fawzia showed up 20-40 minutes late for meetings for on site walkthroughs. On the wedding DAY, Fawzia showed up at least 3 hours late. c) Fawzia does not frequently read her emails. We'd been emailing back and forth for at least 3-4 weeks prior to the event. As a type A bride: I had a clear vision of the wedding weekend and had powerpoints, itinerary lists, pinterest boards, PDF mood boards clearly showing my taste and the vibe I was going for the weekend. a. During our meeting on May 16, 2021 - we spent 3.5 hours at least going over decor vision with her. We wondered why we needed to spend such lengthy time clarifying our vision when we'd emailed her everything way in advance. It was clear that she hadn't reviewed the material beforehand, and to review all of this less than one week prior to the wedding was very stressful. d) The Saturday wedding lacked multiple decor pieces that we had discussed. In addition, Fawzia and her team showed up 3 hours later than we had discussed, and were decorating while guests were trickling into the ceremony and reception hall (past 5 PM). a. The gift box was not what we had discussed. Two major issues: 1) We had discussed having a heart shaped gift box with a lock on it. Instead we got an old wooden box. 2) The gift box we were provided had no lock on it, so my mom had to keep going into it intermittently to take out gift cards and store them for fear that someone could steal those cards. e) Decor was one of the most important pieces in my wedding vision. Unfortunately, Saturday's decor felt like an afterthought and it was disappointing that though I had tried my best to be organized - that the execution fell so far off from what we had planned. We paid her $10,000 dollars to decorate for two days of the celebration. Saturday - I don't know where that money went because it was not even close to $5,000 or more worth of decor. a. The ceremony arch was unstable, and the decor was overly simplified. i. Planned an arch with loose, blush drapery, surrounded by lanterns, candles, etc. ii. The ceremony arch fell twice - once during the ceremony onto my husband and my heads. b. The reception stage was under decorated. We had discussed greenery, lanterns, candles on stage in addition to the drapery - but all she had were two floral pieces on each side. c. The head table did not have the ribbon ties to the back of the chiavari chair. d. We planned a large bouquet on a high top by the stair railing, so guests would look up from the entrance and see the beautiful arrangement - however, no bouquet was there. e. The wedding cake had no florals, it became a plain white cake. f. The centerpieces lacked completeness. We had discussed terrariums with silk florals coming out of them, however there were terrariums completely empty.
