Oh wow. Guns~
I came here as part of a larger group. The place was easy to find, with plenty of parking along the sides of the buiding.
We were arranged into clusters of 3-4. The staff seemed a bit unorganized (maybe it was because they were understaffed), but for example, we couldn't figure out where the lineup was. There was just a gaggle in front of the counter. Complaint #1.
Once we were organized, then the staff allowed us to pick our target sheets, and gave us a quick rundown of how to use the guns. This was complaint #2. The instructions were not technical enough. So my friends and I did have some trouble some of the "basic" tasks. I understand most people probably just want to unload all their shots and walk out, but we actually wanted to learn how to handle the weapons PROPERLY and SAFELY.
The pricing was not bad at all. The only one I remember is $9 for 50 .22LR shots (cheapest bullets they had), but everything else wasn't too bad. At the top of the list is the .5 Desert Eagle, at $8 for ONE bullet.
Onto the good stuff. In my group we shared 2 9mm guns, a .357 Magnum, a .22 Long Rifle (semi-automatic), and some 12 gauge shotgun slugs.
We tried a 9mm Trojan and one other pistol. This is a good one to start with. I've shot rifles before (Air Cadets) but never a pistol. The kick is nothing too crazy, and it's not too hard to aim.
The .357 magnum is basically a pistol on steroids (yes I know it's a revolver and not a pistol). Much bigger kick, and I admit it's pretty cool watching the cylinder spin around.
The .22 LR is such a "light" gun, it almost feels like you're playing with a toy. There's no kick at all, to the point where you're wondering if a shot actually came out. Don't get me wrong though, it's a very decent gun. The semi-automatic means that you don't have to re-cock the gun after each shot. So if you have an itchy finger.. *pop pop pop* is no problem.
I was totally not prepared for the 12 gauge slugs. O M G this thing is BAD@$$. I knew this thing would have a crazy kick, but this was totally in a different league. The 1st shot was so violent it literally blew the hearing protection (earmuffs) off my head! I only bought 4 shots, and I admit I was scared to use up the last 3. This one's a bit too crazy. I don't think I'll be doing this one again anytime soon.
As I had already blown my budget, I decided not to try the famous Deagle. My friend did 1 shot, and the fireball was bigger than his head. We were all giggling like kids for the rest of the day after this one.
This wouldn't be something you'd be doing every weekend, but DVC is definitely a MUST go at some point in your youth. And I'm sure you all already know that this is the ONLY place in the Lower Mainland for indoor shooting.
Highly recommended. read more
