One of the best parts of the Katy Trail is you blend remote, pure nature, with surprising and fun little stops that pop up throughout the journey. We had zero idea that the KT Caboose had been taken over and was open for business, but man, we were very pleasantly surprised. Not only is it on brand, being a caboose on the former rail line, it's like it was truly made for cyclists needing a nice pit stop. Shady umbrellas, trail views, and nice restrooms make this a total win. We got some ice cream and French press coffee, two of my favorite things in the world. It was wonderful, and I want to emphasize that what I am about to say is not a typo: it was *UNDER* priced. Yes, you read that right. In an era where grocery bills seem to add +$30 every week, and my old Amazon staples have all doubled, this place was actually underpriced. I don't remember exactly but an ice cream sundae with fresh fruit, several cups of coffee, and a big ice cream waffle cone were well under ten bucks. Johnny, feel free to bump them up a bit because we want you to make enough and to stay open for many years, otherwise we'll leave continue to just leave some extra as a tip for you next time in. There aren't a ton of places on the Katy since it's so rural and spread out, but with spots like Meriweather Cafe back west in Rocheport, and this spot, they really shine bright and make an impact. When I asked about them the girl at the counter got all snippy with me asking if that's all I stopped in for. Look, I swing by the Osceola Cheese Store all the time because they have free samples, and I generally walk out of there having spent seventy dollars on cheese that I tried free samples of. So right off the bat I was irritated. It's a big shop, with lots of ham for sale, but wow, they are super pricey. I know they will say it's because they do all their own smoking, but there's a similar style place in Arizona where I live called The Pork Shop that has way more reasonable prices. Not that I'm suggesting you drive to AZ for a ham. I'm just saying their prices are a bit on the high side. I might stop in here again, but probably not.

I've been coming to this town for like 30 years and today was the first time I ever got Casey's…read morepizza. They built a fresh new store. I ordered the pizza when I was like 15 minutes outside of town online. I got thin crust pepperoni with extra sauce. When I got there it took a few more minutes for my pizza to be ready. I looked around and bought stuff I didn't need in the meantime. Took my pizza home (another 15 minutes) and starting eating it. I liked the crisp crust. I don't think they put extra sauce on it because it was a little dry. Considering it was advertised to have 4? different kinds of pepperoni on it I didn't think it had that much flavor. It certainly wasn't the worst pizza I've ever had but it was nowhere near the best either. Next time I'd probably choose Domino's instead but I'm glad I tried it. Oh, and I filled up my tank on the way in so there's that. I'm sure this is already a big hit in Owensville though!

I have been a regular for pretty much the whole 7 yrs. I like the pizza, burgers, Chicken sandwich. I only took one star off due to the belligerence of one employee. Nearly all of these people are great and polite. There's one cook that thinks he's the manager I believe but is grossly fooling himself. For 7 years I have been asking for tomato on my burger or chicken sandwich. They are sold with just a bun, which is a bit dry to eat that way. But, I believe it keeps them fresher. So, for 7 years, I always ask for tomato or onion. There is a subway type sandwitch bar there also and they always have the extras. Most times they charge for them and that's ok. Today was a busy day and the store had several customers. I ordered the chicken sandwitch and asked for a slice of tomato. He loudly exclaims "we are not allowed to do that"! Loud enough could almost be heard outside, as if I was committing a crime. I took my sandwitch and stepped over to the sandwitch bar and asked the young lady if I could get a slice of tomato from her, as she already has tomatos on the bar. She was all too happy to oblige. Like I mentioned, I have been doing it this way for the last 7 years as a lot of other people. As I said, I am a regular. 'Baby Huey' comes out of the kitchen and over the the sandwitch bar, proclaiming loudly again, "we arent aloud to do that!" rudely interrupting the young lady, who had a tomato slice ready to put on the sandwich. I could have easily let the situation get out of control, but I decided to let it go. What can you expect out of a pea brain. Very big and tall with no brain. Still, I know these days, good help is hard to find, but sometimes they need to follow-up on the new hires. Especially, in these days which we live. I still recommend the store overall.

Their wine is so good and their food is to die for. We have been to their all-you-can eat fried chicken meal in Sundays many times. The chicken in soaked in buttermilk which makes it so juicy and crispy. If you're visits from out-of-town, I strongly suggest a steak off of their Friday dinner choices. The venue is beautiful, and there are separate rooms for hosting parties / events. The food is excellent, with different menus for different days. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, the grounds are lovely. If you're looking for a unique dining experience give them a try! It's well worth the drive, it's 2 hours one way for us!
