We were surprised by the nicely updated establishment and interesting decor items. One of my pet peeves is not being greeted or acknowledged when first arriving at a restaurant or bar. That was no problem here! We immediately got a friendly hello and were brought our beverage of choice within a few minutes! We were then given a very nice menu, easy to read with a very nice selection from typical deep fried appetizers to traditional bar food up to some nice full menu dinner choices. We ordered the recommended meal of the day and WOW did that hit the spot. The owner actually made a stop by our table to assure everything was good. Had a nice chat with him and even given a short history of the area and his establishment. I would highly recommend this place. Next time we're in the area we will stop in again!

Then I asked for our cold slaw and she came back and told us they didn't have any. They could give us mashed potatoes (cook told her this). It was obvious that the cook was, I hate to say, but a jerk and not having a good day and taking it out on her. She was very nice. So, I asked for a salad and she was too I could have that. My husband never got his and we never got the rolls that were to come with the meal. They should be embarrassed to have that kind cook and what we experienced. I called the restaurant to speak directly with the owner (never caught him/there) then got his home number and either doesn't answer or whatever. His message recorder's always full. We could have taken care of this personally, but can't when you make it impossible. We will never............................return. I have a big voice and will pass the news on. And by the way, what the waitress experienced is harassment. I am take this further.

I get tired of French fries and the baked potato was an excellent change up. The tasty white fish was a good size filet. The coleslaw was a light vinegar style. Even the roll was good. My wife had the lamb stew and that was fabulous. I was able to snatch a couple bites, but she loved it and finished this hearty dish. Good old fashions. We split a pumpkin cake. Sarah was our server and did a fantastic job. Very delightful. You can tell she likes working there which is always a bonus for the atmosphere if the staff enjoys it. We ate at a table in the bar. Small town bar interior, limited menu in comparison to competition down the road but they had a poster on the door advertising a street dance and Oktoberfest event that they were hosting on the corner the weekend of the 10th. Service was excellent, I suspect we were being waited on by the owner. We had the daily specials. Husband had the chicken pot pie, which he said was like thick chicken soup with a puff pastry on top, I had the breaded pork tenderloin cutlet sandwich, which was not good. People at the table next to us were complaining about their hamburgers. So choose carefully. And ask questions but definitely give them a try. Locals are very loyal. They are only open Thursday through Sunday, we are usually gone by Thursday so last year we could not eat here as they were closed.

I've only ever had warm, pleasant service here. *Great fried cheese curds *Old timey slot machine that actually pays out quarters FYI - the Bierstube gets quite popular with boaters and vacationers so it might take a little time to get through a meal if you arrive after big groups. Also - the people watching is great. I saw a group of 8 middle aged peeps order giant Slippery Nipples (Baileys + Butterscotch Schnapps = baaarrrrff) and drink 'em down quite happily.
