Someone had meat duty, another had alcohol duty and so on... Lucky me, I was in charge of cheese! And am I glad I went to Les Amis Du Fromage! There were so many variety of cheeses in there that I just stood in awe for about 5 minutes. The woman behind the counter noticed me and was extremely helpful. I told her we were very adventurous and wanted to try lots of unique cheeses. She spent a good 20 minutes with me helping me decided on my list which ended up with: Applewood smoked cheddar (needed the basics), honey goat gouda, gorgonzola (blue cheese), morbier-livradoise (blue cheese mixed with a lighter creamier taste), bleu de sassenage (more blue!), quarto (60% cow's milk and 40% buffalo milk), white Stilton apple and pear and espresso cheese. They even let you try a few cheeses just to make sure you will like it before buying. All the cheeses were AH-MAZING! There are also a lot of crackers, pre-packaged soups, sausages, appetizers so I think I will try something else next time. With a few cheeses on the side as well.

On this gloomy Saturday I needed a cheese.... not just any cheese, one where someone who was suffering from a mild cold could taste (when you can't smell, you can't really taste!) and enjoy, hence I asked the question, soft of firm.... usually more potent cheese's would be soft... and she picked firm, well go to the guys who know cheese to seal the deal! I came here after the gym, dressed in my gear and once I arrived at the counter I was greeted by, "how can I help!" And I gave him the scenario. With one little thought, and a lightbulb that visually went off in his head he reached for one of the many great cheeses they have here. Challerhocker is what he brought to me, and provided a little sample to see if it was to my tastebuds liking. The cheese, as described on the little sheet, is creamy and has notes of caramel and nuts with a smooth finish... from reading this I would not have chosen this.... but then it entered my mouth, pure bliss indeed, wallet out... take my money! Forget about the fact that I had to impress someone's sick tastebuds, this cheese that the guy picked out was perfect.. let alone I had a sliver of it, and happily I couldn't wait to get home to feed my guest. By the end of the night when my sick lady finally had a bite of the cheese I saw that 'eyes roll back to the head' look.. and just solidified the fact this place is definitely knowledgeable on what they know = CHEESE. If the only "oh's and ah's" you're going to get on this night is from her tastebud's going crazy from the treat you bought... think of it as a victory.. I won't tell you anymore where this is going, but forego the candles and satisfy the tastebuds first... she will be impressed! They don't have a ton of cheese, but what they have is a great assortment that will impress if you need impressing... if you just like to throw money.. well they can accomodate that too! Have fun buying!

If you value cheese, if you enjoy cheese of any kind and most importantly if you know cheese.....you will travel to get to this place. Why? As the name suggests, this is a specialty cheese store. They sell many varieties of specialty cheeses along with various tools and accompaniments for eating and serving cheese. Think crackers, cheese boards, cheese knives, different flavors of spreads...etc. They also serve food and beverages here. The menu is limited but it was enough for us to decide to dine here instead of our original destination. There are two tables inside plus counter seating by the window, and several patio tables on the sidewalk outside. Being right along Bellevue Ave. in West Vancouver, there a stunning view from this place. The store itself is clean, bright, stylish and well maintained. I was really loving the vibes this place gave off! Both my mom and I had The Bellevue grilled cheese sandwich and we shared a 2 for $8.00 Vegetarian Antipasto Skewer. We also ordered a Cherry Kombucha and some kind of Raspberry flavored soda that our server told us was from the UK. The Antipasto skewer came with a gherkin and the grilled cheese sandwich came with a pickle. I've never been a pickle person. I usually pick out the pickles anytime I get a burger that has pickle in it. I decided to give the gherkin and pickle a try this time. The verdict? Still not a pickle person. It was my least favorite part of the meal, but it was also somehow a lot more tolerable than the pickles that I find inside burgers. Gherkins and pickles aside, I loved the food here. The Grilled cheese sandwich had ooey gooey cheese spilling out of the centre and forming a pool of melted cheese on the plate. Been awhile since I've ordered a Grilled cheese sandwich since it's something I could easily make at home but...I don't use fancy cheeses when I make it. This one was a real treat. The ambiance here is so relaxing. Being able to look through the window and see the beach, the ocean, the skies, and cruise ships passing by...this place is an absolute gem. It's the most exquisite specialty cheese shop I've ever been to. There was a sign on the sidewalk that said all "May is for Manchego". Apparently they are having 10% off all Manchego cheeses for the month of May. I bought a small wedge of Red Leicester cheese to bring home but now I'm thinking I should have also bought some Manchego cheese to bring home as well. Hmmm...there are still a few days left in the month of May. Maybe I'll make another trip to this store next week! There are so many cool cheeses at this store. Sriracha Gouda was one of the cheeses that caught my eye. The lady at the counter offered to let me try some! The spice took a few seconds to kick in but then I really felt it. Honestly, the woman who made those is amazing. However, I'm not sure, but I think there's been a recent change in ownership (August 2023??), so I cannot comment on whether the current fresh food offerings are the same calibre. But, they've reorganized the layout a bit, and they're definitely more focused on Eastern European offerings with lots of frozen, fresh and shelf stable options. I was very happy to see that they still have the same vacuum sealed smoked chicken and ribs, and they seem to have a wider assortment of frozen pierogies and pelmeni than typically available in grocery stores. The flavor to the salad was really good -- not too oily, just salty enough, and the tomatoes were plump, juicy and sweet. Just the right ratio of cheese to tomatoes as well. The focaccia was pretty good: I really like the generous bits of flaky salt on top of the bread. However, I wish they could toast it a little bit. Sitting out all day, the bread definitely dried up a little bit. Additionally, the rosemary sprinkled on top of the bread added a distinct bitterness. I eventually got used to it, but my wife who only took a few bites out of the bread immediately called out the bitterness and didn't want any more.
