He tried to start the battery and then told me the bad news: the car's starter had crapped out. I needed a new starter. Who knew? I thought cars just started when you turn the key. So, being new to the area, I asked the operator if he knew a shop that could take me immediately. We could drop the car off there and I could call Lyft. He said "yup" and he gave me a name and number. I called, they said "yes," and I rode in the big truck all the way to the repair shop. It was a tiny shop, but that's probably the reason it could take me immediately. I tossed the keys to the owner/mechanic, Told him I'd be back at 4 PM, phoned Lyft, and walked away.
