I don't know why there isn't a single Mexican restaurant in the Bicutan, Better Living area where I live. But I'm glad that there's this one Thai restaurant along Dona Soledad Extension called Sen Lek. The best thing about Sen Lek Thai restaurant is its being little more than a carinderia, which means that the dishes are affordable. The Thai restaurants that I've been to which are in Makati are all pretty pricey, so having one so close to home at wallet-friendly prices makes Sen Lek a little restaurant that I will probably be frequenting in the weeks and months to come. I ordered take out from there not too long ago, and I was asked if I wanted my food mild or strong. I don't care for extra spicy food as I get hyperacidic after eating them. The mild food of Sen Lek is still a little bit spicy, but tolerably so. Since there's a Thai massage place a stone's throw from this restaurant, I am wondering if there's a Thai community somewhere here. I don't mind. I've met some Thais over the years, and they are surprisingly a lot closer to us Filipinos than our brother Malaysians and Indonesians. Anyway, because the food is so good and the prices so reasonable, I give Sen Lek Thai restaurant five stars.

Our…read moregroup of six walked in without a reservation (luckily they squeezed us in), and right away the vibe felt welcoming--elegant but not stuffy, with beautiful wood accents and soft lighting that made everything feel special. We started with the pomelo salad--bright, zesty, perfectly balanced with just the right kick--and then dove into the grilled pork skewers, which were smoky, tender, and gone in seconds. The star for me was the steamed sea bass with chili-lime sauce; the fish was so fresh it practically melted, and that sauce had me spooning it over everything. Even the pad see ew was a step above what I've had elsewhere--chewy noodles, great wok hei, not too sweet. Portions felt generous for the quality, and nothing was overly oily or heavy. Service was flawless. Our server remembered who ordered what without writing anything down and kept the water and tea flowing without us ever asking. They even brought out a little complimentary mango sticky rice at the end because it was one of our birthdays--such a thoughtful touch. Hands down one of the best Thai meals I've had in Manila. Worth every peso and I'll be back next time I'm in town. 5 stars all the way.

Our water glasses were always full. Food - we ordered pomelo salad, papaya salad, and if I recall correctly, a beef sate or bbq. Everything was fresh and delicious. We would have eaten more, if not for the fact that we had just eaten a large buffet breakfast at the Manila Peninsula couple of hours before. We loved the flavors and would definitely come back.

At first I thought this place only offers coffee and snacks, but I was surprised when my brother (the real foodie in the family) told me that they have Pad Thai. As soon as I heard that, I made plans to eat there as soon as I can. My advice to those who want to eat there is to stick to what they're good at, and that is Thai food. Some items in their menu can taste a little bland, but when it comes to their specialties, expect them to be great. The Tom Yum soup has perfected the hot and spicy combination. The Pad Thai is crave-worthy and their Green Curry Chicken and Bagoong rice are absolutely tasty. Finish it off with the Cha Thai Yen (Thai Iced Tea) Frappe, or try one of their cakes, they're surprisingly delicious.

The interiors must have been designed with the restaurant name in mind, with light apple green accents on white walls. It reminds me of a bright and airy country home - the ones with the white picket fences, except this one has no picket fence. And there are nice quotes about food and eating on the walls, too, with my favorite being the Irish proverb: "Laughter is brightest where food is best." There are also paintings of different herbs on the white walls, and even hanging plants (I wasn't able to check if they were real, though). And the food! (Insert happy sigh here) If there is one restaurant which equally meets the healthy and delicious criteria without compromising either of the two, this is it. With each bite, I was able to savor the wholeness, the healthiness, and the rich flavors of the food. They had a Valentine special when we ate there last February, and for around P400 each, we had a complete meal with banana shake with chia seeds, a fresh salad with calamari and with a delicious fruity vinaigrette dressing, a fresh, rich tomato soup (which is really good that I suspect it was made from scratch), grilled salmon fillet with a creamy though not so heavy sauce with potatoes and vegetables, and chocolate cupcakes. All the food in our Valentine meal is in the menu, though they bundled it to a Valentine meal good for two last February. I have yet to try eating there a la carte, but I hope to try the veggie burger next.
