Marla, the woman who did our taxes, retired (her husband wanted her to because he had retired the previous year), and Neil took over the business. I would have given 4 stars during the first year (2021). I just did okay, and I felt bad when a box that was on top of the arcade game fell down. Neil just shrugged it off, though (the box was probably empty). The arcade games might only be on some of the time, but the ambiance is pretty cool (The Little Mermaid, the 2023 version, was on when we went here this year). The hours aren't as limited as they seem. Neil works on Saturdays to some extent. The location changed in 2023 (the building is old, but easy to get to, and the office is right next to the main flight of stairs). The parking lot is somewhat small, but a big improvement (finding parking at the old location was usually an ordeal). Because of inflation, "starting with the 2022 tax season, we will be implementing a 10-20% fee adjustment - depending on the complexity of your tax accounting." We were charged $260 this time, but the amount will be a lot less for many people (my mom was charged $180). An Audit Protection service was added for free at the time the prices went up. The receptionist is new, and she's cute and friendly. I left a message in the client portal, emailed twice, and called multiple times to a voicemail that doesn't accept messages. No response at all. Very unprofessional! After review of my taxes myself, I discovered that Neil made multiple mistakes. Missed amounts that were on the financial forms I submitted. Just sloppy work on his part. I trusted him & had been a loyal client. My bad for not thoroughly double checking his work, but his bad for not double, triple checking the numbers as a tax professional. Several months after she saw the bad reviews posted, she sent an email to me and my husband, apologized about her bad service and also offered free tax services, but at the same time she posted untrue responses on Yelp to defend herself. This is very inappropriate and is another example of her dishonesty and bad behaviors. She was playing games. Please take all the one star reviews about this company seriously, because people are nice and reasonable and won't post bad reviews if they have to.

6 month follow-up update…read more. I know you may have been waiting with bated breath, so I'll try my best to keep this short. After 20+ additional emails (between both parties), we were finally able to receive our federal and state abatements from 2024. While this is good news and we are pleased with the outcome, it does not negate the unpleasant experience. After the last review, they took note and designated someone to call the IRS on our behalf, instead of repeatedly sending papers in the mail that the IRS would never receive. After receiving the federal abatement, we then had to ask them to help with the state abatement. In case you aren't aware (since I was initially not educated on this matter), you are allowed a 1-time federal and state abatement. Meaning, if you are in good standing, they will erase your fines, but not the interest. Some additional notes: 1. They are a global team, as their new name implies (Unified Global). This means that your team may be located in various time zones and countries. 2. Their software is straightforward and simple to follow, which I did appreciate. 3. Their timelines for filing, in my opinion, do not include a sufficient buffer if you have additional questions and/or corrections. We were asked several times to remove the last review, and after some thought, I have chosen to amend it. Similar to prior Yelpers, I believe that it they have improved their services, my initial review will just be background noise as the one off.
