But for such a renowned institute "the best medical school in Canada?", the actual building, classrooms and especially laboratories while containing enough to hold classes and perform research at are not to the level they should be. Everything looks worn out and there are countless labs that just lack any windows, are super cluttered and just too close spaced for there to be an effective research environment compared to most of the new research institutes that pop up that actively promote an open area for multiple labs to share things and work together. Now there are lots of labs in here that do share and work together, but from what I hear and see the actual layout of the building does not make all this collaboration a breeze. There are a couple of large lecture halls that have seen some famous scientists come to hold talks at, and the seats in both those rooms are all good and comfortable for the most part. Classrooms are mainly consisted of individual immovable chairs with attached tables in smaller than average rooms which is actually a good thing as most classes I've had here (in higher years) encourage discussion and the smaller class sizes help that cause. In the last few years, the cafeteria area has undergone some renovations and has linked up with the far nicer "CCBR" building, there is a Starbucks and a Tim Hortons just a few corridors from each other as well as a food serving area that's a standard around the campus with a stir fry station, grill, sandwich stop etc. So while not cheap, if you are hungry and within the limited business hours you will find something to fill your hunger while seated at a large and comfy dining area. A major renovation to modernize the whole facility will be very costly and disruptive and I highly doubt it would get a massive changeover anytime soon, but the campus in general has been coming up with some stellar new research buildings that one can afford to let it slide that this building remains like this for the time being.

I am according Japan Foundation 4 stars because I have been a 'customer' for years and they provide…read morea unique service. Their uniqueness makes them precious. They offer exhibits on Japan, educational films, a library and lessons. The library supposedly accepts requests for books or films they should procure as well. I say "supposedly" because the two times I did place requests it went into a black hole, no one followed up or updated me and the items were not ultimately procured. Japan Foundation, located at Yonge & Bloor, is also an annoying entity. At best of times they maintained a sporadically haphazard schedule that made as much sense as a slalom course designed by a blind person. More recently, making COVID-19 an excuse, they have taken up to opening on alternate days (!) and for even more puzzling fun (!!) stay closed every second Thursday for added suspense too!!! They close for an hour in the afternoon and open again for an hour and a half before closing just after 5 making sure that they remain unavailable to anyone who works for a living. Confused yet? I think they achieved their goal (!!!!). Perhaps this is why their hours of operation are skillfully hidden on their website. I probably do not need to tell you this and you have already figured it out, but they are not open on most weekends (see above regarding making them as unavailable as possible), but then again they are open on the odd weekend.. sometimes... but not always. OK? Sarcasm aside, I wish I could get a job at Japan Foundation. I love those hours and schedule! OK, seriously, I am done with my sarcasm now. They have a visiting exhibition from Japan currently featuring original pieces of art that is worth visiting. The artifacts are beautiful. A girl at the door almost took the cake however. She was talkative, informative and friendly and was happy to relay that she used to live in Japan teaching English and was further happy to showcase the exhibition. A very kind hostess. Kudos to her. Has anyone ever wondered where the funding for these foundations comes from? They have them around the world. Do not look on their website or online for an answer.

The class was 2 hours long and there was 10 other people with us. We made Pot Stickers, BBQ Pork Puffs, Sweet & Sour Wontons and Baked Shrimp with Sriracha Aioli sauce Chef Florence showed us how to make the filling for each dish and we got to rotate around four stations to wrap the pot stickers ( made with pork filling), bbq pork puffs, and wontons (made with pork filling). We also got to coat the shrimp in panko (Japanese bread crumbs) and put them on skewers. I liked that Florence asked us to rotate through all the stations so we got to learn how to cook each dish. After we finished cooking, we got to eat our creations and was provided with a glass of wine with the meal. You won't get full on this and will most likely need to eat before or after the class, but I enjoyed it because we learned some neat things! We paid $45 each for this class and found it to be worth it. Chef Florence was strict, but also funny. She used a blend of English and Chinese techniques to make and cook the food. Many of them are also very impatient with students whose first language is not English and are very disconnected from the students. Most profs and staff at this college don't show any understanding and compassion towards students, have rude and discriminatory behaviour, and fail to provide fair accommodations to students. I will NEVER recommend this college to any of my friends or acquaintances interested in continuing education or those looking for naturopathic services. In terms of school, they are racist. In terms of treatment centre, they overcharge and rarely do anything for patients. I think the only reason this college with its rude and racist staff is still even in business is that it is the only naturopathic college in Toronto.
