The boardwalk trail is accessed from behind the Chesapeake Beach Water Park where it then extends westward along the shore of Fishing Creek. Interpretative signs have been placed along the Trail to help point out the marsh plants, animals and other features of the adjacent water and marshland. Fully handicapped-accessible, the pet-friendly Trail is open from dawn until dusk for pedestrians and those on bicycles.

They have a peer that you can go fishing on as well as crabbing and they also have a kid friendly outdoor pool which is separate from where the pier is located. It's very inexpensive only three dollars to enter and everyone is nice. There is a play area with water spray structures, this was a hit on a hot summer days. There are bathrooms conveniently located near the playground and I was pleasantly surprised that they were clean. There are so many hidden fun things so keep your eyes open while you walk around! Can't wait to be back.

This park has a beautiful, long drive way with nice trees especially during fall time with fall leaves and foilage going towards the entrance which is tucked away and far off from 301 main road. The park has a nice elevator/stair wooden lift that can take you to the top to see the Patuxent river. I would not recommend though if afraid of heights, but it is a nice view. The park is peaceful. Pretty trails with forests and boardwalks with water on each side. I would not advise coming here after a storm/rain, but it is scenic and nice for walking and can definitely test your balance, just make sure not to slip and fall from boardwalk into the water. My only gripe is the volunteer at the visitor center was not particularly nice, welcoming, and did not want to help/guide us. She was a bit standoffish and unapproachable, but that did not stop us from having fun and enjoying the trails and scenery.

Unfortunately a few bad storms came through and made some damage to some of the walking bridges but there's still enough space for one to explore. There's several local businesses close by to Grab a snack. The park has ample seating for everyone and even benches close to the pier. If you plan to fish...bring a license. The area is stocked several times a year but that doesn't mean it's any easier...on this particular occasion I did well but there have been some other times where well my son did better. Whatever you do....don't allow your kid to bring an iPad lol...I've seen one of ours fall in the water...and although we got it back...it was never the same

The one-way only tour begins in the Patuxent River Park (Jug Bay Natural Area) and ends in the Merkle Wildlife Sanctuary giving you a two-for-one access. There is an observation deck as you cross Mataponi Creek. Once you cross the wooden bridge, you leave the Patuxent River Park managed by the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission and begin to enter the Merkle Wildlife Sanctuary managed by the Maryland Park Service. If you love nature, enjoy birding, spotting wildlife, looking for local floral and fauna, enjoy cycling or hiking do not miss this. Note: since the Covid-19 pandemic started, the driiving tour is closed to vehicles. You can access by hiking or bicycling only.

There's lots of space on the "beach" and the water is really shallow so you can walk out a 1/4 mile and still be at waist level. There's no guard on duty policing the beach, so you can bring all the food and liquor you want and have a ball. There are two small portapotties if you need them. The downside (besides the price) is the parking situation. If the lot's full, there's no easy way to access this place, which (perhaps intentionally) limits the number of people who can be here at once. The hike to the beach is 8-10 minutes so if you leave something in the car, sayonara. I'd strongly suggest investing in a cart so you can just roll your chairs, umbrellas and cooler. Also: BEWARE, THIS PLACE HAS JELLYFISH!
