I think that the service and food here is very hit and miss depending on the day you come. I have…read moreloved Parlor Doughnuts very much so when I had to schedule an appointment instead of going downtown, I decided to go to Fleming Island because I could stop a Parlor Doughnuts. But it was an overall disappointment. I placed my order online and parked as I was parking. I saw two people walk in and by the time I got out of my car and inside one was with the lady at the espresso machine, and the other was waiting in line by the donuts since I had a pick up order, I went over there to try to pick it up, but the lady fiddling with the machine was the only one visible at the time and she was having a time with that machine. I think by the time the lady waiting got her drink. It was probably a good 10 minutes. Meanwhile, because I have physical issues I sat down to wait. In that time about six other people had come in. Now, suddenly another employee appears, and he pulls out a box for a pick up order and started walking into me and then when I said that's not me he then found one of the other people in line who it was for and she indicated she also wanted to go ahead and get a drink so he started helping her with that despite her being one of the last people to walk in the store. Meanwhile, the other lady finally finished the coffee for the first lady and began making this coffee for the second lady from the pick up order. Meanwhile, the gentleman goes over and skips me who was there first and just getting a pick up order that was already placed and start helping another lady in line when he finishes with her he goes to help another gentleman. Meanwhile, I'm sitting there and I'm just trying to get my order picked up that I had already placed long before any of these people appeared in store. So when I finally got my order, it was a good 20 minute wait in store. As for the food itself, I can't say I felt it was the normal expectations I had of Parlor Doughnuts. I ordered a turtle doughnut, a churro doughnut, and a cookies and cream doughnut for my family. Looks wise, they were OK except for mine. Mine was the turtle donut and sorely lacking on the nuts as you can see in the picture. The other ones looked appealing visually however it stopped right there. Whereas I'm normally accustomed to a crispy outside and a flaky interior. This doughnut had a brown exterior, but it wasn't very crispy and the interior was gummy. Very disappointing. So as far as the atmosphere on that regards, the restaurant is very charming. It's well located for its neighborhood. It's generally clean looking however the floors were very sticky.

Home made ice cream that is delicious. I do wish they had a few more flavors. I like that they have a variety of cones, some chocolate covered with sprinkles. I had a plum cinnamon tea which was also great and hit the spot on a rainy day. The WiFi connected but wouldn't open any pages except google, so that was a bummer. I'd love to see for-here food come in an actual plate or bowl. The bowl mine came in had all the egg & sausage on the bottom, so you ate grits first then everything else. Still, I'd come back and try more things. I also tried the chocolate banana thing (muffin? Donut? Cupcake.) and found it pretty disappointing. The cake part itself is good, very moist. Too moist to be a donut or a muffin, so it must be a cupcake, which is weird considering the shape. The icing was awful. It's so overpoweringly sweet it doesn't taste like chocolate or banana, just sugar. If you don't scrape it off, it makes the whole thing way too sweet.

One of our go-tos was closed, so up comes Yelp to lead us to this gem. First, when you walk in, be prepared for your stomach to go full on growl mode. The aroma of freshly baked bread, the sweet smells coming from their bakery case, oh my. I had to stop myself from drooling. They have a very simple menu, but it was still difficult to decide what to choose. I opted for the Pastrami sandwich and my daughter got the Cuban. We decided that way we could go half/half to try both. Then I looked up and noticed they have tamarind juice. Happy dance right then and there. I love this drink. Okay - sandwiches. You know when you eat and you can't stop because it is just so good? Well, this is what happened here. The bread is so perfect - I don't know that I've had a sandwich on bread so perfect. Soft and warm and melt in your mouth. The pastrami was tender and the grilled onions were so good. The Cuban was amazing. My daughter says it's the best she's had - and she grew up near Tampa where you can get a dang good Cuban. Again, the meat was so tender and the flavors were melded together perfectly. Sandwiches are so huge that we both had at least a half left to take home as well. She ended the meal with a cafe con leche. I'm not a coffee drinker, but she said it was incredible. The staff was so friendly and patient with all of our questions. Of course we couldn't walk out without a couple of pastries to go. We both opted for guava filled ones. They were delicious.

Seasoned so flawlessly I'm convinced a culinary fairy godmother tapped it with her wand. And that salmon sandwich? BABY. It didn't surprise me-- it snatched my wig, slid on my heels, and strutted across the table like it owned the establishment. I wasn't ready. I wasn't worthy. That portion was enormous, that cut was elegant, and I nearly applauded when it arrived. Service? Oh, darling. Legendary. I'm almost certain his name was Josh. The man glided over like he had cues, marks, and a script. Attentive without hovering, charming without trying, helpful without hustling. A hospitality KING. Give that man a crown and a raise. I've eaten my way through this sandwich menu like it was my personal world tour--and guess what? I'm starting back at the top for the encore. The fries? ICONIC. Crisp, golden, irresistible. If you order the chicken sandwich, do yourself a spiritual favor: put that ketchup down like it just insulted your mother, and grab a small cup of that sauce on your chicken for dipping. Your taste buds will ascend and you'll thank me later. Now... the Paloma. My God. That drink sashayed onto the scene sparkling with grapefruit glamour and citrus attitude. It wasn't just flavorful--it was flavorful with FEELINGS. Bright, bold, bodacious.
