What a wonderful unexpected gem we came across!! The place is super cute, service is great, and…read morefood was really good. I had a cold brew and hubby had the copper tea. He had a turkey club and I had a turkey avocado sandwich on multigrain. For sides we had cucumber salad, potato salad, and mac & cheese. A word of surprise, the potato salad is served warm, but it was really tasty. The only disappointment was the mac & cheese, which was grainy and soup-like with very overcooked noodles in it. They had no discernible shape and almost seemed like egg noodles oddly enough. We enjoyed our drinks, sandwiches and salads very much.

Such a cute, cozy place. It was like stepping into a warm cafe in another land…read more I started with a seasonal latte that had hints of toasted marshmallows, cinnamon, and pumpkin. Followed by a Monte Cristo. The bread was so light and fluffy. The saltiness of the meat with the sweetness of the bread and sugar with a little spread of raspberry preserves delighted the tastebuds. The side of fruit was large and seasonally appropriate. You order at the counter, where I think the owner was taking the orders and the accent definitely sounded authentic German like the name of the restaurant. She was lovely. Everything is made fresh so sit back and relax and the dining area is designed perfect for that with couches, cozy chairs and comfortable seats at the tables. I looked up what the name means: "Drachenfutter" is also a term used to describe gifts or treats that someone might bring home for their significant other when they feel guilty about coming home late or drunk. True to the "gift" part of the name, you can take yummy homemade treats home with you and they do have a section of gifts you can buy. A nice gem of a place along Historic Route 66.

The ambience was great and so was the food, but so overpriced. For 3 adults and 2 children it was about $200, and that was without dessert, the desserts looked amazing though. What we ordered would have cost us maybe $60 back in Germany. I cook German food all the time at home, so it was nice not having to cook, but we won't be going back.

I am not super familiar with German food, but like to try things that are different. I wasn't sure what to order, so I ordered a Schnitzel Trio for $22.95. Pricey I know, but was here on work training and knew I'd get a per diem of sorts. They first brought out a small salad with a couple German style green beans, and other cabbage themed side dish. All was tasty. The trio came with a Cordon Bleu schnitzel, Jäger Schnitzel, and St. Maritza Schnitzel, and instead of a choice of potato, I chose the Spaetze which is like noodle. It also came with a bowl of brown gravy with mushrooms, which is poured over the noodles. All of the schnitzels were good with the Cordon Bleu and Jäger Schnitzels being my favorite. The gravy made the noodles, otherwise the noodles by themselves would not have a lot of flavor. It also came with a roll, but roll was hard and pretty dry. Overall, it was a nice experience and I left full. It is a bit pricey and not somewhere I go on my own as I regularly live on a frugal budget! I had the trio and a water and the total bill was $24.84 before tip! Great friendly service and I hope the continue to do well. It sounded like they just opened for more days out of the week.
