Sept2009 airshow at RAF Leuchars ST Andrews,wellworth a visit show opened at 8am finishes…read more6pm.Travel early if you dont wanna miss too much,the flying displays start at 10am and go on non-stop till 5.30pm.Myself and 3 others set off from Glasgow at 9.30am by car thinking its only75mile away we,ll arrive just after 10.30am how wrong ,10.20am,,,1mile outside Couper with just 10mile to go,the proverbial hit the fan temperory traffic lights at small 20metre section of roadworks failed, we sat STATIC for 30mins in the BLAZEN sun it was a scortcher,,, hottest day of the year for that area which led to everyone making a day of it and buying £20 tickets at gate on the day £16 if you buy from any Dumfermline Building Society or prepay credit card, cops arrived got traffic moving by this time Couper was snarled up with traffic by the time we crawled at snails pace to the park-n-ride carpark 3/4 mile from base great value £2 a car includes four doulbe deckers running or you could park on base £10 pr/car a nightmare though if you,re leaving earlier or at the end.
Eventually we arrived at ticket gate an bag search and we,re in 12.30pm 3hr nightmare journey and looking like roasted turkey,s attendence record which was last year 48,000 was well smashed a guesstimate over 60,000 at least,it was packed no room to walk or sit but it was fantastic loads to see an do, beer tent,stalls galore selling all sorts,giant hanger with scottish produce crafts an wares,funfair rides, army desplay of vintage warfare trucks weapons,huge array over 50 static aeroplanes,helicopters ,gyroscope,
military jets huge B52 bomber.The air displays. WOW ,,,take earplugs whith you, over 20 to watch were brilliant vintage bi-planes ,spitfire ,lancaster bomber,mig 22,red arrows brilliant, an my favourite the vulcan bomber the size of it an the noise off it was totally unexpected ,also lynx helecopter display all in all was a great day take a backpack with you make up rolls, crips, chocolate ,flasks for tea /coffee, food was expensive snack bars stretched out nose to tail for half a mile about 50 of them ,they were only 5metre out from crowd control barrier so i never seen a plane take off or land you could,nt find a space to stand,, they should move them well back out of way in future,fumes from diesel generators and burning cheap vegoil an onions, had me gagging all afternoon having to go up wind of them occasionaly catch my breath, there was no-one at them buying, was so hot peoples appitites were lost ,,an they say i,ll eat anything but you got to draw the line an they,re well below it,was 3 ice cream vans,on such a hot day you,d think they be queude nope cones,small £1.50 med £2.50. large £3.00 i didnt look an foolishly asked for 4 large cones the pokey-hat man then ask for £12 what i gasped,," no i dont want them " i said" would sooner lick a tramps testacles" wots his problem would,ve had more respect for him if he jus follwed me into toilet a bashed me over the head n mugged me,but that aside it was FANTASTIC DAY would definetly go back
