This is still hands-down the best XLB spot I've ever been to, and yes, I think it's even better than Din Tai Fung! The soup dumplings have the perfect wrapper with just the right balance of thickness. It's soup is flavorful as compared to other soup dumplings. The chili wontons are also the best I've ever had. My daughter actually loves to take the leftover chili sauce from the wontons and use it as a dip for her XLBs. Truly a 10/10 experience every time! read more

We were given menus but there's also a QR code on the table so kinda confusing if we were to order ourselves or not. I was just about to order on my phone when a lady came to take our orders. As always, we ordered too much food but were happy to take home leftovers. For two people, we ordered: -hot & spicy pork xiao long bao (XLB): omg, could be the best XLB we've had! Spice was just right, very soupy, good texture to dumpling -beef XLB: sooo good! Dumplings were made well, and so much soup inside! Good flavor to the beef. Nice and clean space, moderate amount of tables and seating, and super cute artwork on the walls! Here's what we got: Shredded Bean Curd Salad (4/5) - Anytime there's a bean curd salad on the menu, I'm 100% gonna get it. This one was decent. Fragrant sesame oil flavor and even better with some chili oil added to it. Wood & Silver Ear Mushroom in House Dressing (3.5/5) - This was great texture wise, but a little one dimensional on the flavor. Sesame oil was the main flavor I could taste. Green Beans Sautéed with Oyster Sauce (5/5) - We have never once been steered wrong by green beans at a dim sum place. These were no exception. Flavorful with a nice crunch. Our fave veggie to get! Pork Xiao Long Bao (4.5/5) - Can't go to a dumpling place and not get an order of their XLBs. We got the 8 piece pork flavor, and they were solid. When arrived around 11:50am, we were greeted by the friendly staff and no need to worry about waiting on a table. Came for lunch on a Saturday. Dumpling Hours has a large corner storefront with plenty of seating and tables. The inside is pretty clean and spacious, and you can watch employees making dumplings at the front. We ordered the pork XLB, okra with garlic, jellyfish appetizer, beef noodle soup, Dan Dan noodle, and an iced tea. Everything was great. The XLB had incredibly thin wrappers and lots of juice inside. The jellyfish appetizer was light and refreshing without too much oil like some places do. The okra was fresh and flavorful. Our only complaint was that the noodles in both the beef noodle soup and Dan Dan noodle were a bit softer than we prefer; we typically like our noodles with more bite. Service was incredibly friendly and welcoming. They even gave us a dessert on the house - a jelly with watermelon, strawberries, and dried fruits. It was just the 2 of us, so we got: -Ginger and scallion noodles - a little too sweet for my preference, but hit the spot with the soy sauce and chili oil at the table -Hot and Spicy Pork Xiao Long Buns - SO GOOD!! Wish we had gotten more, but it was already after closing when we tried them. -Juicy Pan-fried Pork Buns - Another delicious item! They get their juicy name from being filled with soup. But be careful! They can be really hot when they reach the table, and when I tried to bite into one, juice/soup rained all over the table, my phone, and my arm! -Steamed Pork Buns - these were just okay. I think we meant to get the BBQ pork buns instead. We had also ordered the cucumber salad with crushed garlic, but it made its way to the other table by mistake. When we pointed it out to our server, we just asked that she'd take it off our bill. Instead, she gave us a thing of hot and sour soup to go. To be honest, we didn't want the hot and sour soup. But she packed it up for us and handed it to us saying it's better because it's more expensive than the cucumber salad. We felt bad telling her no, so we just accepted it. I've been here a handful of times, and this experience was no different than my previous ones. We came for brunch time on a Saturday and were seated immediately. Unfortunately, even though it didn't seem to be too busy, after we were seated, it seemed as if there server completely forgot about us. We were waiting about 20 minutes until the server finally came around to take our orders, and maybe another 20 minutes for the food to come out. The food is good, but definitely not like the authentic dim sum you can get in Chinatown for a cheaper price. An honorable mention, however, is definitely the crab and pork XLB! Very tasty with a strong crab taste. When we were close to being finished, we realized we never even received the fried chicken we ordered, and just decided not to get it. We actually came into the restaurant, 30 minutes before closing and the staff was accommodating and let us dine in the restaurant. So what gives for a 3-star rating? That Ginger and Scallion noodles is $17 and barely for two. Just hosted my husband's dinner here and it was not the best experience. I was hopeful because booking a large party, somewhat last minute was easy. I didn't have to provide a credit card, I wasn't warned about cancellations etc. However, the first thing I noticed when I arrived was... the way they chose our seating arrangement. It didn't make sense to me. They had my party at 3 separate tables instead of having my whole party occupy the bench seating by their mural wall so we could be ONE big table. Since most of my party was seated before I arrived with the birthday boy, It wasn't that serious so I overlooked it. BUT, I didn't see any employee in sight for almost 15 minutes, there was only 3 menus at my table that sat 10 people, and it took almost 30 minutes to get a high chair for my daughter. Other people in my party couldn't wait they had to grab it on their own. Then when an employee did show up she was asking to take down our order but of course not everyone was ready because not everyone had a menu. When the food finally came out, it was lukewarm. My man and I enjoy the Walnut Creek location often, I've never received cold food there. On top of that, I had to request the vinegar for the XLB, and the soy sauce and hot chili... again why should I have to ask for this at a dim sum restaurant? With that said, the Walnut Creek location is always packed, when I walked in the Brentwood location at 6:30 it was surprisingly pretty empty. That should've been the first red flag for me but I only chose this location because I booked axe throwing nearby. Then when I told the employee I had to leave to make my axe throwing reservation at a certain time and wanted the cake they put in their fridge for me NOW... it took FOREVER. I had to make my cousin run to the axe throwing place to accommodate my party for being late. I got lucky and was able to move my reservation time but I STILL didn't receive the cake by the time my cousin was back. She finally handed me the cake and was wondering why we were all leaving without blowing out the candles and serving it? Like I didn't tell her I had to leave along time ago.... Luckily for them, the tip was already included because I had a big party but I definitely won't be back. I'd rather wait in line for HOT food at the Walnut Creek location than deal with the poor service here. read more

We often hit this place for dinner before/after the AMC next door, and it's actually a decently solid Dim Sum place! The service has been exceptional every time I have been there in that they are always attentive and making sure your order is right. I'm one of those people who have experienced San Francisco Dim Sum, (so I know some Dim Sum buffs may not be completely satisfied with the food or the ambiance), but I think Dumpling Hours is a great addition to an area that's lacking in choices for this cuisine. The vinegar dipping sauce added just the right amount of acid to complement each bun. Gave it a 4 because they are a little difficult to eat. Chewy to bite through the pan fried section so they sort of fell apart. Shumai 3/5 they were tasty enough but on the smaller side and quite dry for being a steamed dumpling. Wonton Soup 5/5, the broth was so flavorful, not your usual clear broth but had a creaminess to it with a little spicy kick. Had dinner here yesterday. It was decently busy especially for a Thursday early evening but not crowded or loud. The building is cute, I like the artwork! We ordered the fried chicken (wings) appetizer, juicy pan fried pork buns, shrimp and pork potstickers, and egg fried rice. Ended up being plenty of food for just the 2 of us and we had to take about half home. The wings were amazing, definitely my husbands favorite. Fried perfectly so the skin was crunchy and coated in a sweet & spicy sauce. Wasn't too sweet or too spicy, just right. The juicy pan fried pork buns were my favorite and are always a hit! They stay pretty hot on the inside with the liquid but cool down pretty quickly once you poke them/bite into them. The potstickers I thought were alright. They were open ended so tended to have the ingredients almost slide out one end. I would've preferred them to be a bit more crispy and had just a pork option (instead of pork and shrimp) but they weren't bad. Lastly the egg fried rice (which I didn't get a photo of) was a little disappointing. It looked more like steamed rice with egg rather than fried, and tasted kind of mushy. It was a bit lacking in flavor, would have liked some garlic or onion flavor in there. It was better when topped with the pork bun juice or soy sauce. Next time we want to try the noodles instead! Overall we had a good experience dining in. When you're done you just go up to the counter (without a bill) and they calculate your total there and you pay. Kinda nice so you don't have to wait for the bill, you can just get up to pay whenever you're ready. We ended up spending about $60 for the 2 of us for the wings, 2 dumplings, and fried rice.
