Bike Path Itself: Three stars
Fact that exists at all: Five stars!!
Average: Four stars :)
The Golden Gate Bridge this ain't, but it is a great way to connect the Peninsula Bay Trail to the East Bay and Coyote Hills Regional park. The path itself is a concrete roadway separated from traffic by a low concrete barrier. Nice views can be had while riding. The path is on the South side of the bridge, adjacent to Eastbound vehicle traffic and allows for bidirectional bike traffic. Westbound riders are close to traffic and subject high winds and occasional debris from vehicles. There is public shore access with vehicle parking on both the East and West ends of the bridge.
When exiting the bridge Eastbound riders have a multiple choices. Riders may exit when the bridge first hits marsh land and enjoy riding out into The Bay along the dirt Shoreline trail or continue another 2.5 miles to the Toll Plaza and exit to the Coyote Hills Regional Park which boasts both paved and dirt trails, great views and amenities like picnic tables and bathrooms. I can recommend making a loop by doing both, though the Shoreline trail can be muddy in the winter.
When exiting the Westbound side, riders may continue South along the Bay, or cross highway 84 and ride along the paved public shore access that encircles the Facebook campus to head North. read more
