After having my share of dealing's with contractor's, good and bad, I was impressed with Greg Kline and Duluth roofing and insulation co . I had a house with no vapor barrier and a attic full of mold and wet insulation. Greg came out and told me exactly what was wrong and how to fix it. I asked many questions concerning his products and construction methods and was impressed with his wide range of knowledge. Greg and his crew showed up and in two and one half days, completly removed my roof, all the old wet insulation, spray foamed the attic, treated the mold on the two by six's, installed 3/4" plywood roof and shingles and came in $700.00 under his quoted price. In the fall of 2010, I was informed my home (which is used as a rental) had a roof leak. Panicked I called Greg Klein with Duluth Roofing (later found out he was also with Summit Spray Foam). He met me at my rental while I was in town visiting.Greg was prompt, honest, and offered budget friendly fixes (albiet temporary). I agreed and paid Greg to do the job. This fall (2011), I inquired with Greg again to see if he could check the condition of the roof. He agreed and reported back that there were a few new cracks that needed to be caulked and that the gutters needed to be cleaned. He quoted me a price for both, I agreed and immediately submitted for payment. I emailed, asking if the work had been done.I received an email back stating all work was complete. I asked my tenants if the gutters were cleaned. My tenant snapped some photos of the gutters and text messaged them to me. They were grossly overgrown with small baby maple trees and briming with debris. Just as they were when Greg stated they needed to be cleaned. I politely emailed Greg and explained that the gutters were not cleaned out and I was nervous that the cracks were not filled. He said he could see the cracks had been filled when he drove by but that he'd send guys out the following day to clean the gutters. He was polite and apologized. I was satisfied. I followed up with my tenants to see that the work had been done and they explained that they came out, scooped out the gutters and whipped the debris all over the walkway, the ground below the gutters, and on the stairs to the home (directly below the gutters). I again went back to Greg, explaining what my tenants were stating. He apologized and stated that he wanted to give me my money back. Not having requested this but finding it to be a fair resolution given that this job should have been an easy, in-and-out situation I stated that I would accept the money back however, I wanted it given to my tenants for their inconvenience as they are now charged with the task of cleaning up after Duluth Roofing Company. Greg emailed back that he'd be over there in the AM with cash for my tenants. I thanked him for his professionalism and care in this situation. The following morning I received a voicemail from Greg in a very different tone. He sounded aggitated, short, and defensive. He stated that SOMEONE was "making a mountain out of a mole hill" and that he was just at my property and there were no complaints. I, again, followed up with my tenants immediately to see what went on. When I called, all 4 of my tenants were at home and no one had seen anyone come and inspect. No one came to the door, no one spoke to them. My tenant snapped some more pictures of the debris on the ground and they'd already swept off the stairs as it was a hazard with the debris on the entry stairs to the home. I forwarded these photos to Greg and explained, in email, that _I_ never asked for a refund of my money however I found it to be an acceptable and respectable resolve to this now ridiculous situation. I also explained to him how insulting it is to state that my complaint is without merit and that this job was below his standard of service. Furthermore, calling and leaving a voicemail in a crass manner is highly unprofessional. Instead of just doing the job, it was a half way joke of a job throughout.I would never hire a company, for any repair on my home, without knowing they were going to clean up after themselves. Clearly, coming and dumping trash on my property and then charging my tenants with the task of cleaning up OR risk having it left there, the baby maples growing along the foundation line and plausibally causing future damage to my property is not what "cleaning out the gutters" means. I just wanted the job done correctly. I never wanted my money back - I wanted the job done. COMPLETELY. I would have been beyond satified if Greg went out there, cleaned up the debris, and admitted that its not how his company operated, apologized and that was it. Greg replied that he's no longer speaking to me. Before this last week, I could have sang Duluth Roofing Company's praises from the mountain tops. I was so pleased that I'd found a professional ally in Duluth, someone I could trust and believe that they were of their word.I was about to contract for them to replace my whole roof next spring to the song of 6K or more.... Now, I can't say that I believe them, trust them, or think they're of their word...nor can I ever recommend Duluth Roofing Company to ANYONE! This was the worlds easiest job and they certainly did screw it up! When all they had to do was clean up after themselves!!!! read more
