I would not recommend Shawna to anyone as she has consistently shown how unprofessional and unreliable she is as a coordinator. Shawna can respond to this comment to deflect and defend herself, but that won't change the fact that direct verbal/contractual promises that were made to us by Shawna were broken during wedding planning and our wedding day. Shawna was consistently difficult to contact and provided little to no assistance during our planning process and our reception. Even though she was a month of coordinator, she made promises to deliver tasks and paperwork 90 days out and completely missed those. She blamed the fact that she was moving - however, she made the prior contractual commitment to be our coordinator. We had to repeatedly email and follow up with Shawna to ask simple questions or requests that should have been answered in a timely manner. Instead, we had to follow up on these tasks ourselves with other vendors to the point where we were coordinating every aspect of the wedding, which resulted in Shawna being constantly out of the loop due to her lack of communication and accessibility. We heard from other vendors that she was rude and verbally disrespectful to them when they were performing extra tasks to make up for her lack of preparation and execution. During our rehearsal at the museum, she was constantly distracted to the point where we had to repeatedly call her over to us to try to have her focus on going through the ceremony steps with us. We ultimately gave up on trying to have her go through the steps, and we decided on the best course of action for ourselves. In the morning of our wedding, she was late for meeting our family members who were dropping off items for the wedding. They had to call her to ensure she was on the way to the museum to assist them with placing the items in the museum in preparation for the wedding reception. Before the ceremony had started, she was asked to retrieve some camera batteries from a box that was provided to her the day before. She said she would bring them over and then completely forgot about them so that our guests could not take pictures with the camera at the welcome table. During the reception, she failed to deliver food and drink items to us during the cocktail hour and dinner when we had reviewed these requests and timelines with her a week before the wedding. She did not remind us of timelines or let us know where to be during the reception, which should be the most basic of tasks for a wedding coordinator. At times, she was noticeably nowhere to be found during the ceremony and reception when we needed her assistance. Our other vendors repeatedly stepped up to help cover any gaps or issues that appeared because she was either not paying attention or was inadequately prepared to handle them. Overall, she acted very unprofessionally and did an extremely poor job with the planning and execution of coordinating our wedding to the point that we would not recommend any other future couple to book her for an event. I hired Dulce Dia Events to do month-of coordination for my wedding this past summer. After interviewing with a few companies, I ended up choosing Shawna because of her many years of experience in the SB wedding industry and the fact that she has worked with my specific venues a lot in the past (SB Courthouse and El Paseo). And also her bubbly personality and positive energy were a plus! I really appreciated the expertise and experience that Shawna brought to the table, along with her vendor recommendations which she always was happy to provide. She offered a lot of great information and context, which helped me in my decision-making. She provided a solid foundation for our day-of timeline and I worked with her on several rounds of revisions, in which she was open to any feedback. However, I do wish there was more attention to detail and responsiveness leading up to the wedding. Email responses were pretty slow, until about a week before the wedding when we switched to texting. Also, during the timeline finalization process, there were a couple instances where some edits I provided (including key suggestions from my photographer) slipped through the cracks on Shawna's end. I unfortunately had to correct her on some mistakes and outdated information a few times, even after it had been sent to all other vendors. EDIT: Since writing this review, Shawna has expressed her sincere apologies and regret regarding the above and has been very receptive to my feedback, which is very appreciated. For the rehearsal and wedding day, Shawna's associate Kimberly was our dedicated coordinator and she absolutely killed it. She was punctual and executed everything according to the timeline. I had a very specific vision for the reception design, and she understood how important it was to me. She set up everything perfectly, according to my instructions. Whenever there was a moment of doubt, she asked us what we thought was best or what would make us most comfortable. For example, right before our grand entrance I got lightheaded and she suggested an alternate approach that was a bit more casual. I had several wardrobe malfunctions and she literally saved the day multiple times because of her past experience working at a bridal boutique. Right before our video/photo crew was supposed to wrap, she reminded me and asked whether we wanted to extend them for another hour. In reading the other Yelp reviews, she's done the same thing to me she did to the others with poor experiences and the positive reviews are clearly paid reviews. She makes promises she won't and doesn't keep, she doesn't return phone calls, texts or emails and gives the book of excuses as to why she didn't respond. Her sole job is to plan a special event, and she will tell you everything you want to hear to ensure she'll take care of you on your day, she'll take your money, and then she doesn't follow up or reach out until right before your event, knowing nothing of what you want or your expectations. She hopes to wing it and that everything goes smoothly. I am very pleased to have worked with Dulce Dia Events for my August wedding at the courthouse gardens and La Paloma Cafe. I went with the day of coordination option. This was best suited for us as my husband and I planned the wedding ourselves, and our main objective was to not have to worry about anything on our wedding day. Both Shawna and day of coordinator Kimberly absolutely delivered on this, and we were able to fully enjoy and be immersed in our special day, knowing that everything was taken care of and executed exactly how we had discussed. I found communication with Shawna throughout my time planning to be easy and informative. We already knew most of the vendors we wanted to work with, but her list of recommended vendors greatly helped us with filling in some of the gaps. Additionally, she is extremely familiar with the courthouse, the ins and outs, the dos and don't, so this was incredibly helpful to us to ensure we were planning a ceremony that respected the courthouse's rules. Moreover, she was just a lovely, fun, and relatable person to speak to with a wealth of knowledge of all things "wedding" in Santa Barbara, and we genuinely enjoyed working with her. For day of coordination, we worked with Kimberly, who was just an absolute delight and so much fun. She met with us at the courthouse a few days before our wedding to collect our decor items, and took the time and effort to walk the courthouse with us and thoroughly review the details of our wedding day. I STRONGLY advise against using Shawna of Dulce Dia Events for any event planning services. My experience with her was extremely disappointing and unprofessional. Despite her initial promises to assist with vendors and maintain regular communication leading up to my wedding, she failed to deliver on every commitment. From the start, Shawna assured me she would handle various aspects of my wedding planning. However, she did nothing to fulfill these promises and instead retained my deposit, which she refuses to refund. Her lack of engagement was evident as she provided excuses related to a family issue that predated our contract and took multiple vacations, leaving her unavailable and unresponsive during critical planning periods. Her limited office hours and minimal communication further exacerbated the situation. Despite my repeated attempts to discuss my wedding plans with her, Shawna remained elusive. With only five days remaining before the event, she had not provided a timeline or any necessary details, leaving my vendors and me in a state of confusion and stress. This was my first time planning a wedding, and I was unaware of the typical expectations, but my vendors were shocked at the lack of organization and communication from Shawna. I never managed to schedule a meeting with her because she was unavailable; therefore, she had no grasp of the details of my wedding. Her plan to manage the event appeared to be entirely improvised, which is unacceptable for a 'professional wedding planner.' Additionally, her claim of being the top wedding planner in Santa Barbara and her alleged connections with my venue turned out to be false, as the venue staff did not recognize her. I requested an account of the time she spent on my wedding planning, but she was unable to provide any documentation, likely because no effort was made on her part. Despite this, she still refuses to return my substantial deposit. Shawna's conduct is deeply unethical, and her business practices are deceitful. I strongly urge anyone considering her services to reconsider. All I can say is that Shawna and her team are nothing short of AMAZING. My wedding planning process was extremely difficult, with the venue and other vendors throwing up unexpected road blocks and curve balls for months beforehand all the way up until a now (more than a month afterward). Shawna was absolutely phenomenal! Our wedding at the Cabrillo Pavilion Arts Center in Santa Barbara in September 2016 went incredibly smoothly. Our wedding DJ actually recommended her, as she coordinated his wedding too! We were hesitant on taking on a wedding coordinator, as budget was tight, but Shawna was affordable and we got a great vibe from her from day one. We first met with Shawna for the first time, months before the wedding to go over general information. She asked all the questions we did not even think to ask about out caterer, venue, vendors, etc. We had many issues that needed to be resolved, and she immediately set us on track. It was obvious the Shawna had ample experience in the field. For a "day-of-coordinator" rate, Shawna provided a "month-of-coordinator" service, and was available by phone and email even before that for any questions we may have had (and there were a ton!). about 3 weeks before the wedding, we met again to go over the wedding day timeline- she took into account what we wanted and offered her advice as to how long things should take. We asked Shawna to bring in an extra set of hands to help set up the venue, and that was not an issue at all. Her knowing the venue staff helped in getting us access to it the day before the wedding to set up our centerpieces and drop off equipment. The rehearsal was a breeze and she and the DJ worked amazingly well together to help us manage time (yes, DJ showed up too!). On the day of the wedding, Shawna had everything down to the minute planned. Not a single thing was out of place. The ceremony area (outside, on the beach), was set up perfectly upon our arrival, and the reception area (indoors, at the Pavilion) was stunning. She and her associates set up everything exactly like we wanted and described to them. Even areas which we gave her liberty to design as she thought worked well looked impeccable. We had some issues with our caterer, but she resolved all of that and we did not need to worry about anything. **We were free to enjoy our wedding day** Highlights: She is incredibly detail oriented. During cocktail hour, when we were out taking pictures with our bridal parties, she sent down a waiter with appetizers to serve us on the beach, as we were all starving. We did not even think to ask for it. When we arrived at our table, there were snacks on my wife and my plates for us, as it would take longer before food was served. She knew to grab some items we didn't want getting lost and stored them in a safe location before the end of the day. She was with us until literally the last people stepped foot out of the venue and helped load out cars. Shawna was amazing and I cannot recommend her enough. Shawna is a true professional at wedding planning. She coordinated my wedding at Lions park in Carpinteria and she made the day run so smoothly! I actually never planned to have a wedding coordinator but after meeting her at an open house I realized what an asset she would be and I'm so glad I booked her! She has a positive personality, gets along with everyone and has a great relationship with vendors. This is important because the wedding coordinator is the one finalizing details and working with the vendors before and during the wedding. Even though our budget was tight, you can't put a price on feeling at ease knowing that if there is a hiccup on your big day it will be taken care of properly. She has so much experience in the wedding industry and can wear many hats. She even helped bustle my dress when we couldn't figure it out. During one of our first meetings together, she recommended we get the linens delivered the night before wedding during our rehearsal so we could start setting up the tables. What a lifesaver that was because when packing up the car we realized just how much stuff we had for the reception. It made it so much easier so the day of the wedding we didn't have as much to do. During the rehearsal we realized we didn't have a stand for our officiant and she graciously offered to let us borrow a beautiful gold stand which matched our decor perfectly. Even though wedding planning is truly the worst, I will sort of miss it only because I loved chatting and planning with Shawna. She responds quickly to email and texts (I can't tell you the amount of annoying texts I sent her throughout this process which of course she responded to thoughtfully). Dulce Dia means sweet day in Spanish. The name says it all. My now husband and I decided to have a fun simple wedding that was a reflection of us. After having to fire my prior so called "coordinator" THREE WEEKS before the wedding, I was in a panic and emailed a few coordinators to replace her. Since i was to be wed out of the area we are from, and because my venue required a day of coordinator, i was super nervous hiring a new person. I got an email from Shawna almost immediately the next morning, and we talked on the phone during a lunch hour. She was immediately everything I was hoping for. Shawna helped my wife and I coordinate our September wedding at Rockwood. We were referred to her through Pure Joy Catering, our caterer. My wife and I really enjoyed meeting with Shawna and instantly felt like we had found a good match. Even though we hired her as a day-of coordinator, she was extremely helpful and available throughout the planning process. She put a lot of emphasis on having a perfect execution and helped us tremendously with figuring out what could go wrong and planning around those potential situations. For example, we had tissue paper flags and banners printed. She let us know that we had to unfurl and sort them before the day we decorated or it could turn into a nightmare. She was totally right. They were extremely tough to deal with, even indoors. If we would have left that detail until setup, we would have lost a lot of time. Our wedding day went great and Shawna ensured that everything happened exactly how we wanted. The schedule was extremely tight and I had a lot of doubts about us staying on time. The day of, we stayed ahead of schedule most of the event which was amazing. Some small problems came up but she handled it without us even being aware of them. We found out after the wedding which was really nice. I am extremely self sufficient and organized and was not interested in a wedding coordinator but had to get one due to the requirements of my venue. Shawna was the perfect person to take that responsibility off my hands and she is affordable and reasonably priced. Shawna is the absolute best! I met her at a bridal show over a year out from my wedding and I hired her immediately! She was very familiar with our venue and seemed very excited that we were planning on having our reception on the outside of the venue rather than the inside. So many things clicked right away and I knew she was meant to plan our wedding! She was always there when I had a concern, issue or problem. Because I lived two hours away from where we were getting married and where she was located, it was only possible for me to have meetings on the weekends. Shawna was always so accommodating to this! Shawna went above and beyond! We met Shawna at an event held by our venue, Lion's Park in Carpinteria. We had no intentions of hiring a wedding coordinator in order to save on costs. She was offering a promotion at the event and seemed to know our venue really well so we splurged and hired her! BEST DECISION! Shawna helped us to complete a wedding time line, figure out a lay out for the dinning room, and coordinated with all of our vendors. She also offered to help us do our own floral arrangements and served as the clean up crew! To say she went above and beyond is no exaggeration. She was there with us the day before our wedding setting everything up. When we had to leave for the rehearsal dinner, Shawna completed the rest of the set up that we were not able to complete on her own. We walked into the room the following day and were blown away! Things went so smooth on wedding day. The whole day went according to plan and ON TIME. Even things that I had forgotten about, she had already thought of and taken care of for us.
