Had a job transition so money became tight As our household had to adjust to 2wk pay periods instead of weekly. I reached out to have extension to bill due date to avoid disconnection (for 2 yrs bill has not been late or power turned off for no payment, ever). Very friendly and accommodating on the phone and received a 7 day extension and text confirmation. Then over the next several days I had 4 phone calls and 2 text messages informing me my service can be disconnected. Seriously?? Talk about anxiety and stress compounding. I finally payed it, 9 days before original cut off date and 17 days before extension. So disappointed in how "working with me" did nothing to actually help me. I'll struggle in other areas now instead of asking for grace from them again considering I have 2 small children in our household read more

Been paying for surge protection for years to Duke. Than lighting hit near my home, destroyed ceiling lights, air conditioner, garage motor, motorized bed, internet router and modem, and 5 $75 each breakers. I called to make a claim and they said they only cover compressor on major appliances. So in other words thanks for your money and our surge protector doesn't work, and we don't really cover you. read more

I used Duke for roughly six years in Florida through my apartment Complex, and their slew of predatory tactics, poor customer service, and inability to resolve issues they created persisted over the entire six year duration. Ultimately, upon my move out scheduled for July 22, 2026, I placed a "cancel service request" on both, the Duke app and website, prior to July 22 to ensure I would not be charged after I was no longer living in the apartment. After first placing the request on the app, I received a prompt stating a request had already been placed for 2022- knowing I had not yet placed the request, and the current year was 2026, I recognized this as an error and attempted to place the request on Duke's website as well (in addition to the app). I received the same prompt stating a request had already been placed, and so next called Duke's customer service, where I was kept on hold for over ten minutes and the robot ultimately referred me back to Duke's website. Assuming the stop service request had been placed since I placed it numerous times through Duke's website and application, and received a response stating a stop service request was received, I assumed I had stopped my service. However, come August, I've been charged through August 2. While the cost is minor, it's the principle of the issue that has been troubling - after two hours on the phone with Duke support, the answer I was given was that, because their system did not receive my stop service requests (despite that their platforms are the party that malfunctioned), I simply owe the money. Long story short, make sure you reach a human from Duke when you want to stop service, especially if their platforms are "malfunctioning." Their predatory tactics and poor technology are not on your side as a tenant, so cover all your bases to protect your finances! read more

Multiple power outages this month. However, Duke Energy refuses to provide any credits towards the next billing cycle. Their Justification? When there is an outage, they are unable to charge for energy consumption. While I understand energy bills are based off consumption, the inability to access the utility/service is a huge inconvenience that disrupts even the most basic daily functions. The customer service rep I spoke with was rude, often speaking over me, and didn't or couldn't answer basic questions. read more

Summer savings zero use of gas. Duke is really quick to bill zero use of gas even if you do not use it. Even if you enroll you have to perpetually check on them each year to see if they are going to charge you rider charges and service fees for zero gas use when you are not using gas services. In Ohio we need energy market regulation to prevent predatory monopoly energy market and unfair billing practices. read more

Trash 10 hours no power. 5 min from their maintenence hq in colrain. Worst of the worst.

Horrible...you can't even use a live agent on chat to request your final bill overage payment. They make you call in and wait online. This is the only company I know that will keep your money unless you call to request your overage from your final payment, that you cannot request via a live agent on chat. Chat is to prevent calling and waiting ridiculous hold times. Awful. I wish I never had to use them. They overcharge on electric too. I have proof how they overcharge. read more

Subject: Important Warning About Duke Energy Wiring Insurance Charges Good evening, Neighbors, I want to bring to your attention a serious scam that is affecting many of you, especially the elderly. Duke Energy has a system where their employees are incentivized to push wiring insurance when you start service. If you refuse, they redirect you to another representative who then tries to convince you that you need it. This results in a hidden charge on your bill. As a real estate investor managing multiple properties, I can confirm this is a blatant scam. Duke Energy is essentially forcing unnecessary charges on customers. Please check your bills carefully to ensure you or your family members are not being charged for this wiring insurance. Stay vigilant and protect yourselves from this unfair practice. Best regards, Ed read more

Zero stars!! This company is such a scam it's so sad. Started electric here and had to pay a deposit of $700 which is already absurd!! Then find out when we're moving and go to transfer the electric from the old house to the new house it's another $400 deposit!!! the SAME company. Are you kidding me?? She said oh we're ending your account and starting a new account because it's a new address. Uh what?!? SCAM!!! So be ready to pay another million dollar deposit to transfer your electricity through the same company because they decide to end your account every time and make you a new one like your a new costumer. Absolute joke and Florida needs to do better. read more

0 stars if i could. Spent an hour on the phone after receiving conflicting emails saying my bill would go down by $150, then up by $200. Their final answer was that they messed up and my bill will change again at some point before it's due. There was nothing they could do to help or reduce my bill to the original reduced amount by $150. They charge too much for every service and their customer support sucks. read more

704$ for a 2 bedroom apt. Energy windows. Unreal. They need to be sued asap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've lived in Clark county indiana all my life with great customer service from Duke. Then in 2023 I moved out my rental so called to shut off my service in my name to be told they wouldn't help me til my balance was payed in full. Now I'm told I never called to do such thing so I owe a whole yr I never used cuz I moved out. Now in 2025 I got new house & they're refusing to turn on my new service. I offered multiple times to pay the balance I don't actually owe on the automated bill line, then when I did the auto billing isn't even working so I'm sent to a 3rd party with guys from another country who say they can take my payment but I don't trust giving my bank information to a 3rd party. They're straight scamming hard working honest customers. Pathetic read more

A complaint against Duke Energy regarding improper final billing charges for services after my lease and residency ended. I submitted a disconnection request through Duke Energy's online portal prior to my move-out. However, due to what multiple customer service agents later acknowledged as a known system malfunction, I did not receive a proper confirmation, and my request appears to have been lost. Duke Energy is now requesting that I re-engage the property management to assume responsibility for the utility--despite my no longer having control of the unit or any agreement with the landlord. This situation was exacerbated by poor customer service and no disclosure on Duke Energy's website regarding the system error, depriving the chance to verify or escalate the issue in real time. I believe Duke Energy has acted in a way that is both unfair and potentially negligent in its handling of technical issues and its treatment of customers attempting to resolve honest disputes. read more

Horrible service with the gas portion of this set up. We are a new Ohio business and I have had to call every morning this week, spending 45+. They cannot restore the service. I first told they couldn't locate the meter in their system, then another rep told me it was an IT issue. I've been told at the end of each long call to call back in the morning. Now, Friday morning, the rep put me on hold and said she has to send someone back out ot restore service. UNREAL ! We have clinics in (7) states and I have never experienced such poor customer service, or lack of knowledge within their departments including New Construction. read more

Worst service company ever. I asked to be set up with quarterly billing. They put me on annual instead. While the monthly bill read 85, they took 741.21 without any written notification for 'yearly overages'. I did not ask them for that account type! Horrible value, poor customer service, and condescending and rude supervisors. The overages were not indicated anywhere on the bill, you have to dig through almost six screens to get to them. Duke are thieves of the worst sort. Do not use them if you have any alternative. read more

After we changed ALL our windows I expected a much lower bill. However the bill that came was much HIGHER than the last year one. So I tried to call this company to find out why. I spent 40 min on the phone listening the same thing over and over. No human to ask Questions. The problem is that on every site this company gets zero points. Everybody knows that this is the worst company to have business with but with it being the only one here, we really have no choice and they know it and therefore the service is none existing. This must be illegal read more

if I could give Duke negative review, it would be -10 power went out at 4 AM this morning. It is below zero temperatures. It is now 12:30 PM and they are just now sending a crew out and say that it won't be fixed till at least 4pm so it takes them 12 hours to fix the power for over 5000 customers that is absolutely insane and unacceptable read more

Duke Energy is the worst energy company on the planet. We just received a past due notice and we haven't been in the house since May. We are very environmental and turned off the lights and the AC. They are awful. I've been a customer for year. I was one day late and they cut off my service. I paid the same day and turned my service on. I received my next bill, paid it, then received my November bill. They added A $250 charge to my power bill. That's 3 months worth of power bill money for me. they don't care. I've been trapped in my house for 9 hours and they just stand around not doing a thing

Duke Energy takes no responsibility for the disaster left in my yard and even on my power line to the house from the horrible tree trimmers they hire. So despite multiple calls to different departments, as the limbs that were cut by Buford were left on my lines and as the rains came and went, the limbs got heavier and heavier and eventually pulled the line off the house. Did Duke care, nope! Did Buford have to fix the mess, NOPE! After weeks of this, a very kindly crew that apparently did not get paid for all their work, fixed my issue. Of course because they were awesome, Duke Energy won't even pay them. Monopoly, no accountability and downright deceptive practices make Duke Energy a poor example of a necessary company. read more

I've been having billing problems. I live in a 4 family apartment. My apartment has no gas appliances, therefore I do not have a gas bill. For whatever reason, Duke continues to put a gas meter on my bill. This was a problem back in April into May, then my bills were correct for a few months, now all of a sudden my bill is 500 plus dollars because they put a gas meter back on my bill. The owner of the property has called multiple times to get the gas meter removed from my billing as he pays for the gas and I don't have any gas to my apt. This issue keeps happening and I've been dealing with it again for the past wk. I was assured Friday I'd have a credit on my account of 34 dollars and this will no long be a problem, now my bill is 449.51.. Duke continues to not take accountability for their continued mistakes and insists that i have gas but wont send a tech out to confirm. Duke, what are you going to do to fix this problem permanently? read more
