It's a supermarket for the most part however the ethnic foods they sell far surpass any grocery that I've seen locally. The prices are very reasonable for the products offered. I snagged a can of baba ghanoush for under $2.00. Extremely fine couscous - which I've never seen anywhere else - $3.00 for 1 kilo. I won't read off the remainder of my receipt however just realise that the prices are exceptional for the products available. I also managed to buy a box of my favorite Middle East sweets which are jellies of a sort covered in sesame or filled with nuts. Think Liberty Orchard Cotlets or Applets but 10 times better.

I'll have to check out when they have their farm stand opened.

Plato Dale Farm is a small family farm that specializes in grassfed beef, pasture raised chickens…read moreand also sells high quality vegetables and fruits. You can often find them at various farmer's markets. During the wintertime, you can find them at Horsefeathers Winter Market, North Tonawanda and a few other locations (listed on their web site). They also offer a variety of CSA's and if you're looking to buy 200lb worth of cow to last you the whole winter, summer, year or whatever; they would be some of the best local purveyors to get it from. Prices are higher than your typical supermarket ground beef, but you get what you pay for with very succulent ground beef. I find grassfed beef has a bit of a different taste and prefer it, so whenever convenient I buy my burgers from these guys. The farm also supplies a good amount of beef for Lloyd Taco Trucks as well as tomatillos, cilantro and other veggies. The people who run the farm and their staff are superbly friendly. Next time you see these guys at a farmers market, I highly recommend trying some of their products! I'd love to read some more reviews from people who have tried their CSAs as well.

Kent Miller is what every farmer should be: passionate about his craft, passionate about his food,…read moreand passionate about helping his "customers" - i.e. his neighbors, friends, and fellow WNYers, find healthy, delicious, sustainable food. Kent and the gang, aka Plato Dale and the Sunshine Kids, can be seen regularly at Horsefeathers and Farmers and Artisans in the winter, and all over town during the growing season. The farm offers shares of vegetables and meat (including grass fed jersey cows and other breeds on occasion) and pick up points from North Tonawanda to West Seneca and downtown Buffalo to Arcade. We've purchased a half cow from the farm, as well as loads of produce. They even have farm friends in Florida and supply organic citrus around the holidays (Hint: your oranges should not be perfectly orange and round. They should be a little uglier.) If you aren't convinced by my own enthusiasm, you might be convinced by the fact that several great Buffalo restaurateurs including Peter & Chris of Lloyd's and Steve Gedra of Black Sheep (and formerly of Bistro Europa) regularly supply from Plato Dale. These are heavy hitters and a great testament to the quality and deliciousness of Kent's food. My one complaint, to be fair and unbiased in my review, is the pricey eggs the farm produces. But they're offset by the price-to-quality ratio of everything else they grow and sell, so, water under the bridge!! If you're looking for a local supplier of farm fresh food, Plato Dale should be your first stop.

I have had a meat share from Hanova Hills Farm this winter and it has rocked my world. Santa…read morebrought us a small chest freezer - there wasn't enough room for ice cream and all that meat in our normal fridge. Once a month I pick up at a designated spot in the city. For $100 I get a giant freezer bag of aged beef, all kinds of different cuts, cryo packed and its price per pound labeled, so I know I'm getting a great deal. The bag even has recipes in it. All that meat has forced me to get creative. I've made red wine and olive stew from Patricia Wells' "Bistro Cookbook" and then roasted the bones with their marrow from a recipe in new cookbook I had to buy to help me deal, called simply, "Meat." I've made Korean brisket more than once, and Stroganoff, stir-fries, steaks, roasts and chili. Saving up all the ground beef and racks of ribs for summertime grilling. Dinner is inspired now. Though I do admit, there are lots of vegetarian pasta nights in between our meat fests. Now, if only they'd get some pigs too.
