I've been eyeing a few books for quite some time and recently picked one up! If you enjoy cartoons, games or just art in general, you'll be pleased with what Nucleus has to offer. I've been to several exhibitions and have enjoyed each one and always look forward to their future exhibitions. When looking at the gallery, there are several microscopes available to look at the art pieces in detail. The gallery maximizes its art space by displaying artwork on both sides of the stairway and features artwork on the second floor as well. Nucleus is definitely worth checking out if you enjoy art or love unique reads.

Apparently Nucleus expanded and opened a second location in Portland in 2016. [Parking]: Easy and free street parking. If parking is not available on Main St, then there are plenty of public parking spots and parking plazas in downtown Alhambra. [Space]: The space is separated into a bookstore at the front with various art books and a rotating art exhibit (Wicked in March 2026) at the back. All art on display is for sale. The bookstore sells mostly art books (both original works and artwork from specific anime, games, or pop culture) as well as various original greeting cards. Tickets are not required to see the exhibit and admission is free. [Conclusion]: A neat spot to see various unique art prints and a free exhibit. Chances are if you are at Nucleus then you are also here to check out other spots in downtown Alhambra (e.g. grabbing tea drinks or visiting other miscellaneous shops).

Since our crane display was 3D, we needed someone who could create a frame around our art piece. My husband went to the shop to talk to the owner and ended up leaving our crane piece with him to frame. We selected a white frame, and the owner suggested that we add in a blue boarded inside the frame (which you can't see unless you're standing and looking at the frame on the side). Our custom frame was completed in such a quick time and when we went to go pick it up, we were blown away. It was just the right touch to finish off our crane artwork and piece everything together. Service here was so great - it's a husband + wife team and they really compliment each other with what they bring to this business. If you're looking for a custom framing business, look no further because JS Shiah Company is the way to go! So many customizable options, quick turnaround, great quality. Bonus - if you like dogs, they have two adorable friendly ones that hang out at the shop with them.

Happy to finally visit the VPAM. A gem that may be hidden to many, but needn't be. Of course if you…read moreknow anything about Vincent Price the actor, you also may know that he loved art and for many years encouraged people to get involved with art. He wasn't kidding, either. He and his wife Mary put together a museum that is on the campus of East LA College. This is a very active venue, though hardly overcrowded. On the afternoon I was there, a workshop for younger people to explore art was being held in the same area as one of their current exhibits. (I should have suspected as much as a 10 (?) year old was leaving with a somewhat water-soaked shirt). As the friendly person at the main desk assured me, the workshop would not interfere with my enjoying the art. True! There are three floors at the VPAM. On the first floor were some indigenous artists (some local, some not). Always timely, the voices here brought a nice variety in their work. On the second floor, there were artists with perhaps a more global outlook. You might even say that the art was (respectfully) confrontational. Meaning: I did not feel attacked or anything. Rather, I thought the work invites some real dialogue. There was a film, for instance, from the POV of a salmon trying to reconcile its life and its place in the world since a big dam has since interrupted their lives. There were also some colorful prints questioning the value of mineral mining. These works succeeded IMO by their beauty and skillful presentation that also asked questions that people may not think too much about. On the third floor is the Permanent Collection. Some donated by Vincent Price, but many others contributed, too. 'Form and Function in the Ancient Americas' 'showcases the wide range of Indigenous civilizations'. With many great examples, there is plenty to check out and enjoy without being overwhelmed by 'too much of a good thing'. One of the things I also enjoyed about VPAM is that it wasn't a huge undertaking to explore. Perfect for an hour or two, depending on you. So grateful for the helpful folks who help run the Museum. I look forward to returning sometime in the Spring, when apparently a collab with LACMA will open. There is also very much a connection with the Getty as they have sponsored much here, too. It's all free. Park in the nearby College lot as the regular lot behind the VPAM is under construction.
