I said "I told the receptionist I could go get it. I live about two blocks away." "If you're not happy with the care, you can go somewhere else." So I did. Very strange and unpleasant interaction. My fault for not having an ID, but what an A-hole. Best I can figure, I was labeled suspicious for not having my ID and shown the door. He also wouldn't give me my chart when I left. Sure he once broke both legs jumping off a boat into 4' deep water and getting medical advice from a dude with giant casts on both of his legs was a little suspect, but I digress. Since that doctor I've had a long string of managed care zombies. Every single one has made a snap judgment based on the first symptom or two they heard and hustled me along. I had one doc say "You need to lose some weight" based on my BMI, not bothering to note that I was at the time a bodybuilder with single digit body fat (his advice would be correct nowadays, but again I digress). Dr. Friedman, who I chose totally at random as the nearest doctor who took my insurance, has been an unexpected joy. He's very kind, listens to his patients, doesn't rush you at all and seriously knows his stuff. He has also worked in the area for a very long time and has extensive connections in the local medical community. I've gotten a couple of referrals from him and they both worked out wonderfully. To be fair his office is a little dated-feeling and could use a facelift, but that hasn't affected the quality of care I've received at all. I'd much rather have a great doctor with a 70's-feeling office than a mediocre doctor in a state of the art facility, which seems all too common these days.

My husband and I found Dr Raisis to be very friendly, respectful and great bedside manner. I am very, very picky about who my doctors are, and I immediately felt very comfortable with Dr Raisis. In the recovery room I heard staff talking about him, and they had nothing but good things to say about him. In my book, if medical staff speaks highly of a doctor, that is who I'm going too see! Dr Pritchett made a good choice!! Two wonderful doctors, and this morning, I'm sore but no real pain!! I was told to expect lots of pain post op...doesn't seem to be happening! And I credited those two doctors and the great staff at Swedish Ortho Insitiute!!

Dr. Raisis in particular was completely disinterested in my case; he was never receptive to anecdotes that would help explain my symptoms (in fact, he outright said he had never seen my particular issue in his career, when in fact it is a fairly common issue and relatively easy to see on diagnostic images, according to information I've gathered and surgeons I've met in the meantime). For a few years I defended him, saying that while his bedside manner was terrible, he was a good "mechanic." That changed when I was diagnosed and treated for a rare infection that Dr. Raisis had neglected to warn me was a possibility of the last surgery he had done on me. In fact, Dr. Steege had seen me while I was trying to get a diagnosis, and he correctly guessed what was wrong but dismissed me saying that couldn't be the case. By the time my infection was diagnosed, there was an imminent threat of kidney failure (yes, stemming from a neuro issue!). I would not recommend Dr. Raisis or his colleague Dr. Steege. Terrible customer service, and negligent doctors with little interest in cases they do not find compelling.

I have been seeing him for about three months and have never been so calm. My friends and family have noticed the difference and see that I don't fly off the handle under stressful situations. I tried meditation and other holistic medicines but nothing worked and then a friend recommended Dr. Zanolli. He was very understanding and after 3 weeks I was so much calmer but not a zombie. He's prescribed medications that conflict with others to the point of malpractice. He is so medicated he cannot perform simple functions, which is alarming due to the rapid onset. Unfortunately, there is no way to find out if you like a doctor without paying a massive new patient fee. And that's how they get ya. Usually people who have no choice but to pay out of pocket don't change dr's for this very reason. I disliked this dr so much that I am going to find another dr even though it will mean another insane new dr fee. Dr Janel is possibly an adequate dr if bedside manner and basic human emotions don't matter to you, but I need to feel like my dr is a person first and a dr next. She has an aloofness and business like manner that comes off seeming disinterested, rushed and lacking compassion. I came away feeling like I had been a nuisance to her, like I should have apologized for having bothered her by giving her a lot of money for nothing. Besides general demeanor there were other little things like telling me she was going to take my picture with her ipad, rather than asking, and then being dismissive of my questioning why. ("the medical app requests it"). Maybe I don't want my picture in her app's data base. I don't know anything about the privacy policies of her app's. Also, she prescribed a course of medication without telling me it was important to supplement with probiotics, and although I already new this, it further detracted from my confidence in her. What if I hadn't known? She didn't think of it herself , but when I cued her by asking if she thought I should supplement with probiotics, she said yes, and then tried to get me to buy a 40 something dollar bottle from her. When I called later during a severe allergic reaction she never returned my call. Bottom line: I didn't trust her or feel respected by her.

She came off strong and sounded like she knew what she was doing. Yet she overdosed me with a med the first month out, I am blind and she changed my meds dosage and did not tell me. She was asked the first visit if she could refer me to an oncologist for cancer followup, it took her 8 months and she could not do it, I finally found an oncologist myself and had to beg for her to send the referral, this also happened with diabetes followup, and other referrals, she never once got a referral the first, second or third time asking, and she constantly sent you to the wrong people, I was giving a referral to prostate cancer, I am female and had breast cancer. She refused for months to set up my meds in script talk a reasonable accommodation for blind individuals. Between her and the pharmacist it took 7 months, once it was finally done, the doctor asked me to bring all the meds I finally got after waiting for 7 months to her office, where her nurse stole them, they all disappeared never to be seen again and no one will say what happened, and it has been 7 weeks and I still don't have replacements for those meds. The list of incompetence with this doctor and her staff is so high, I can not recommend her to anyone, or this whole office and staff.

While it was my first appointment with this doctor as my PCP; I observed all of this and more. She asked meaningful questions and truly listened in order to understand my history and experience. She treated me as a partner in my care by providing guidance regarding next steps, confirming my understanding and asking for my buy in, rather than dictating treatment. TIPS: It was clear to me that she understood women's health and treatment options - was great at open discussion and risk/benefit of HRT for perimenopause. Be an advocate and partner in your health. While self diagnosis via "Dr Google" is not great- legitimate research of peer reviewed articles and studies can help you to understand the questions you might ask. If you ask the Dr and still don't understand... ask them to explain in a different way. You're worth it!
