There is a bathroom and a building where you can get a map and ask questions. The young lady working there was very accommodating. The trails were pretty well kept. You're walking through the woods basically except for a time or two to cross the road. Ya I would've got lost map and all. We passed an area where they had different types of peacocks, it was like a little peacock zoo. Of course there's beautiful areas with a pond. We saw more then one. The trails we took were a total of 3.38 miles, we did that in 11/2 hours and they went back through the trails again. It's really a beautiful walk/hike that I'd love to go through on a slower pace and photograph more. Not scary if you're going alone. I believe dogs are allowed on leash.

After couple of wrong turns, I found myself in a city-block-sized heaven. Quiet park, with tallest trees I've seen on the island. You can bring your dogs and they can play and run in the park. You can bring your toddler or kids to play or have fun on the swings. Lastly, teenagers or young adults can come here to play basketball. This park is typically always filled with one of the aforementioned groups, but it's not overly loud, which is surprising because there's a lot of school age kids who hang out. There is ample space for picnics here too. Overall, I think it's a fairly good option in the neighborhood for some family fun!

It gets extremely crowded at peak times (morning-early afternoon) and, for people looking to play tennis, there are typically outdoor tennis lessons being run on 4 of the courts during the morning and afternoon hours, so it is doubly hard to find an open court early. Activity does die down somewhat in the late afternoon, but it's still a very busy area. As for the tennis court conditions, they are OK. The courts are a little beat up and in no way pristine, but they are still legitimate tennis courts with the correct dimensions. Also, if you're driving to McKinley Park, parking spots aren't typically extremely hard to find, but there are a lot of cars parked all around still.

There is one porta poty and the few times I have visited it was decent if you had to go. Please don't mess this park up people. It's beautiful. Unfortunately last time I was there, some disrespectful person did graffiti on the ground. This is a nice escape from busy city life tucked away in the neighborhood.

When I was a younger person, the neighborhood park was a special place for me. I didn't realize then how important being one with nature is. Meeting up with friends, hopscotch, hula hooping, tic tac toe.. the good old days. We could stay out all day all night. What's great is to see kids playing ball, riding bikes and doing "kid stuff" and having a great time vs. glued to iPhones. Ask yourself, when was the last time you sat in a park, breathed fresh air, read a book or just enjoyed the sun on your face? Spring is here and it's PARK TIME!

Some of the newest and nicest outdoor tennis courts in NYC can be found right here!…read more I'd typically say "...sssssshhhhhhhh" and to keep it a secret, but for as long as I had been playing tennis, the tennis courts at John J Carty existed. However, they never were my preferred tennis courts to play on because the courts were purely concrete and not your typical tennis hard court surface. HOWEVER, during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, a renovation of all of the tennis courts was completed and the courts reopened to the public with brand-spankin' new surfaces! Needless to say, this park once again became one of the go-to destinations for tennis lovers. There are 2 courts side by side for every row of courts and the row of courts are separated by fences. With all the praise I just showered onto these brand new hard courts, I was quickly reminded on the very first time I was back on these courts why I was not in favor of them, even though the surfaces were as smoooooth as a washboard - the ground that the courts were built on were sloped! Yes, you read that right. The fact that they were always sloped turned me off and does affect play if you're of the more advanced skill level, not to say I really am. However, whenever I played on these courts, something was always off with my tennis stroke, but when I played on courts that were level, no complaints. If you're novice-intermediate player, these courts will do just fine. At the end of the day, beginners are more focused on just getting the ball back and forth with easy going swings. However, if you're a more advanced player, these courts might get on your nerves. You will clearly notice the slope when you're on the higher side of the court because you can tell that you have to hit the ball on a downward trajectory every time. Bottom line, these courts are still really nice and new, but the uneven-ness of one side versus another is very noticeable.
