We stopped here while traveling on I-85 and based on earlier reviews chose Dudley's for dinner. The food was outstanding- my husband had oysters on the half shell and a mussel appetizer that was wonderful. I had a salad to start and fish and chips for dinner. The fish was well- prepared and hot, as were the fries. Anytime we're coming through Spartanburg we'll be stopping here. I'm from NYC and traveled down to South Carolina for a job, had a long day and really needed some good food to set it all right. Dudley's delivered far beyond my expectations. We ordered the fried calamari, the oysters, and the deviled eggs for appetizers. Everything was so good and so fresh. Then we each had the buttermilk chicken (best I ever had), the fish and chips (also the best I ever had) and the blackened chicken sandwich. Locals, try this place out. You won't regret it !! However, that is not long enough so: A friend lives in the neighborhood and was pretty excited to take me to Dudleys bc of the attraction of the Fryer station being in the middle of the bar. I could not even being to comprehend what she was saying. We would have sat outside but it was a bit too chilly - and that's unfortunate as I felt like I gained 5 pounds just inhaling the exhaust from those fryers. Not to mention what we, our hair, our clothes, must have smelled like once we left. I don't get it - but it seems like the locals do so I can't really knock them for it but it isn't a place for me. The service was great, friendly, fast, welcoming. I lost my appetite completely with the whole fryer, kitchen in the middle situation so I have less than any idea about the food, however, my gf did order something and it looked ok. This restaurant was exactly what the East Side needed when it arrived on the scene. The atmosphere is simultaneously perfect for a date night or for the big game, and I regularly enjoy it for both! When you walk in, you'll immediately notice the large bar surrounding the grill where you can saddle up, enjoy a beverage, and watch your steak being cooked to perfection. There is also ample seating on the front patio, plus a back porch which is more for sports-watching. The menu has evolved slightly over the past several years, refined down to the best of the best dishes. Don't let them forget to bring you some of the signature biscuits while you peruse the menu; they are loaded with cheesy, onion-y goodness! For an appetizer I highly recommend the Pimento Cheese Fries or the She-Crab Soup. They also do an outstanding job with calamari which is served with a sweet and spicy sauce that is a yummy update to the traditional marinara. Also from the Starters menu are the wings, which are perfect to order from Hub City Delivery if you are having a group of friends over. Try the Garlic Parmesan dry rub! When I'm craving a really good steak, Dudleys is one of the first places I think of. Whether you go for the 14oz Ribeye or the 8oz Filet Mignon, each steak is seasoned and grilled to your liking, plus the garlic butter they put on top doesn't hurt! ​On my last visit, I went for another of my favorite entrees: Low Country Boil. You rarely see this on a menu because it is quite complicated to serve so many types of seafood and meat that are each cooked properly, but Dudleys has it figured out. There is plenty to share between two people, if you're willing: 4-5 oysters, 6 mussels, 4-5 shrimp, 1 cluster of crab legs, served over sausage, corn, onions and potatoes in a delicious broth. Served up with melted butter, lemons, crackers, hot sauce, you name it, this meal is sure to please! The sandwiches are great for a smaller meal, and if you're there on a Thursday, they are 1/2 off. We tried this place on a Thursday night by recommendation. We walked in and thought 'what a cool little spot' the open kitchen was upfront behind the bar, they had some nice outpost seating with heat lamps and a TV and a good amount of indoor tables. Far beyond the kitchen, decor or food was the service. Our waiter Will was top notch. Friendly, accommodating and just a real gem. One of our guests had a food allergy and Will was quick to say 'no problem- our food is all made to order, if you can dream it- we can do it!' We enjoyed the seafood boil (fish, shrimp and scallops) - broiled, they served 2 fish filets, 2 scallops and 3 shrimp- it was good, could've used a touch of seasoning- but still good. We also had the fried chicken sandwich which was large and served with some delicious fresh cut French fries. The best was the Shrimp and Grits with a fried egg- that was just delicious and had great flavor. We also ordered the daily dessert made fresh by the wife's owner- a strawberry cake, also very rich in strawberry and yummy. We ate at Dudley's on Saturday night after having a beer at Plankowners Brewery (another favorite). We learned of Dudleys from an acquaintance who highly recommended it. Our server, Cat, was busy with a large table and it took her awhile to free herself. In the interim another server got our drinks and brought us two delicious cheese biscuits. When Cat became free she was apologetic beyond belief and provided wonderful service throughout the rest of our evening. Both of us ordered the ribeye with a salad and a loaded baked potato. The steak and potato were cooked to perfection and the bordelaise sauce was delicious. I'm a big eater but I was unable to finish the 14oz piece of meat and colossal potato. The restaurant itself was inviting and comfortable and the staff was cleaning continuously while we were there. The place really shined. All I know is by the time the food comes, I'm hangry. First time I had the filet, which was great. Dudleys is still hopping and delicious. We were there a week ago and enjoyed sitting at the bar. We enjoyed the "dinner show ". Where else can you observe the chefs preparing your dinner. These cooks are so good and know how to make the food great. Same crew for years! The fried fish with Shrimp and scallops are superb and hand breaded for each order. as are the steaks and burgers. French fries are not the flavorless frozen kind, rather fresh cut. The wings are big and full of flavor. Some menu Items are a bit overpriced. But, The food is high quality, good tasting, bordering on Fantastic. Open fire cooking is great. The cooks are chefs. Every plate is made to order from real food in frying pans starting with butter and cream. Lots of young servers learning the ropes, service is very OK. No major complaints. I would like to a few more side selections. Like a small salad with the steak and potato. But they charge you for the Salad in this scenario. Still they are often very busy Friday and Saturday. I don't think I've ever had a bad experience at Dudley's. Literally everything on the menu is good! Pimento cheese fries, tomato stack and crab soup are all delicious! The house salad and wedge salad are ahh-mazing and huge portions! Steak is tasty, crab legs are actually decent and seafood is also good. I really wish the seafood platter could be split as far as cooking styles--only complaint I have for Dudley's! Definitely give this place a try! This place is awful. First, it took an hour for our food to come, and the place wasn't even full. Then when we did get our food, most of it was incorrect. The two stakes we ordered were both undercooked and we had to send them back, but when they brought new ones out, btw 40 minutes later, one of them was way over cooked, then the burger we ordered was asked to be brought with ketchup, mayonnaise, and fries and it wasn't, we had to ask for it again twice. Also, I ordered a Caesar salad and it came with a piece of chicken IN the dressing. There was only 1 out of 5 meals that came out correctly (the chicken Alfredo), but the crab that came with the dish was imitation crab. And finally, the waiters were awful at tending to our table. We ended up refilling our own drinks and one of us went into the kitchen to get a to-go box, and the employees did nothing about it. Do not eat here! read more

I have visited Dudleys a couple of times and enjoyed the food each time but always getting something "simple" since t wasn't sure what they did really well. I told my husband we should try their steaks since it is on their sign and he rolled his eyes and said "go ahead". Well, I did. I ordered their filet medium. It was a perfect piece of meat- quality meat, cooked perfectly, seasoned perfectly, and huge! I would put their steak up there (and better) than Rick Erwin, Ruth Chris, Strip Club, Chophouse, Larkins, Morton's, Fleming's, Teds Montana, Halls, Capital Grille, Shulas, and Jeff Ruby's (yes, I did eat at all those), and they eclipse the Peddler, Outback, Longhorn, saltwater, Logan's, Texas Roadhouse, etc. I was so pleasantly shocked! The atmosphere is not romantic nor classy- the music, lighting, artwork, etc. does not add to the experience (it is pleasant and clean and a local hangout). The service is prompt and friendly. The steak I would give 5 stars without hesitation but I am reviewing the complete experience. So, now I know what Dudleys does best! read more

Comfortable aesthetic, check. Friendly service, big check. To get it out of the way, we ordered wings previously, but was not impressed. I'm still trying to find a good wing joint in Spartanburg and again, yet another who feel that parmesan sauce needs to melt your face with buffalo. Pro tip, parmesan is a strong cheese, but not when its smashed with buffalo, you may as well just nix the parm because you will never taste it. Creamy parm lets the parmesan be the prime focus... which for those who like parmesan, that's kind of the point. As for the irish side, they do this well, and has become a fast favorite for some savory comfort food. It is definitely worth a visit for that alone. Especially, with a pint of Guinness. And WHATEVER you do to the pimento to make it taste that good and addicting... don't ever change it. Dudley's has an option to order a pint of their own pimento cheese... get one to go, you will NOT be sorry! read more

I went to Dudley's on a whim, because I'm not familiar with the area, and I left the choice of dining to the company I was with. They hadn't tried it either, so it was a new experience for all of us. Dudley's is slightly off of Main Street on the east end of town, amidst all of the grocery stores and big box shopping plazas. The exterior is a little misleading at first, because it almost looks a little dive-y at first, and it shares a parking lot with an Italian restaurant and a liquor store, and one should be mindful of the parking spaces that designated them as such so you don't get booted or towed. Entering the restaurant, it looks pretty casual and relaxed, but the service and menu definitely seem like they're aiming to be a little more upscale. I think it's a slightly confusing ambiance, but overall the service is still good and attentive, so they definitely have going for them. The menu isn't extensive by any means, and they have a pretty clear variety of steak/seafood centric options, as well as a variety of small snack/bar food options. Admittedly I felt that the prices were a little high end on the spectrum, which goes with the kind of confusing identity of casual atmosphere but upscale dining, so I'd just want to make aware that the food that you're probably seeking in the first place is around the $30 mark a person, if you're going for good looking steaks. As I said, the service is very good, with attentive staff that doesn't hover. I will state that the food took a suspiciously long amount of time, and that if this particular visit weren't primarily about catching up with company, then it might've been problematic, but it didn't go unnoticed either. The shrimp and grits I went with because I was feeling a little over steak at the time, were great, with shrimps that weren't tiny, and a good portion of hearty grits and chopped ham mixed in. Nobody else in my group had any complaints about their food, and the bites of steak I stole from the gf were tender and flavorful, and kind of made me wish I had more of that as well. Dudley's pimento cheese fries though? Legit. If I were local, I'd come back here so often during late nights for a night cap beer and these fries, and then end up on My 600 Lb. Life. One thing I will say I wasn't too enthused about was the seemingly high number of I'm guessing regulars, who kind of frequently wander around the restaurant with beers in hand, floating from table to table chatting up everyone they seem to know. I couldn't tell if maybe some were staff at times, or if they were just getting in the way of staff. But for a place that tries to aim upscale, I'd quash this tendency if at all possible. Overall, A-OK is precisely how I felt about Dudley's, so the corresponding 3-stars is the result. The location was convenient to get to with abundant parking, the atmosphere was relaxing, the service good, and the food very good. Prices are a little surprisingly high if you don't know what you're walking into, and I wasn't keen on buzzed locals floating around me throughout my meal. read more

After sitting at our table for 20 min without a server even making eye contact with us, I went and told the hostess ( the sweetest girl in the place) a server finally arrived at our table without any apology. We ordered drinks and appetizers first. Wings were crispy and fried pickles were okay, they are a little thick for our liking. We then ordered entrees, fried chicken and the ribeye. It took what felt like forever to get our food (because it did). The ribeye was over cooked but the chicken was good. Biggest baked potato I've ever had. While driving back home to Knoxville, my mom wanted some seafood for lunch. So we searched yelp and found most places were closed on Sundays except here. So we put it in GPS and headed there for lunch. First thing we noticed were how high prices were, seems like they only have 1 menu for lunch and dinner. The inside décor is kind of cool and they have all different kind of wall hangings. The inside is kind of small and they also have a bar area. There is also not a lot of parking from what I saw. My mom decided on the fish and chips. I had the she-crab soup cup and a blackened chicken sandwich with fries. We both chose iced tea to drink. While you wait they bring these Cheddar garlic biscuits that are similar to a chain restaurant, but wayyyy better. When we got our food it looked good, but wasn't that great. My mom said her fish was over seasoned and when I tasted it I agreed, it was way to salty and the seasoning in the batter over powered the fish. The she-crab cup of soup I got was good, it had good flavor and plenty of shredded crab in it. It had a little too much sherry for my taste but once I added the oyster crackers it helped. It also could have been a little thicker for my taste since it was kind of watery. I also found 2 pieces of shell but don't mind because I know how hard it is to get it all out sometimes. My blackened chicken sandwich had no Mayo or anything kind of spread on it and the chicken surprisingly had no flavor even with the blackening seasoning. I loved the toasted brioche bun though. We both agreed the fries were wayyyy soggy and full of grease. The appeared to be handmade, so they probably twice Fry and the 2nd time the oil wasn't hot enough so the fries just absorbed it. They were so greasy they the oil was all over your fingers and had to wipe my hands each time I ate some. Overall we were not impressed with most of the food. The waitress we had was very nice and attentive. She also refilled drinks and got things for us when needed. Our bill with tip was just over $50 which we thought to be high for a lunch, but enjoyed our time out of the car for a bit. Probably wouldn't go back if we were in the area again. read more
