I first met Evan in November of 2022, when we discussed repair of a gas fireplace, which he claimed would be fixed by ordering a special remote from the company. When I questioned if it could be any other issue, he stated that it could be the starter, but if it was that problem, the fix is cheap and he would cover the cost. Remote was due to be delivered in December. I never heard from Evan. Since then, I have called Shield Services and spoke to his receptionist on several occasions. I have been told multiple times Evan would be calling me, but he never did. The receptionist gave me a lot of excuses. First the remote was "out for delivery". I waited a week, then it was, "I'll have Evan call you". Waited again, no one reached out. I confirmed my contact information multiple times. Multiple calls and unanswered messages. Then I got in contact with the receptionist again who told me it was on backorder. How something can go from "out to delivery" to "on back order" makes no sense to me. I have heard about half a dozen excuses. If you are looking for more red flags, note that this business does not have an address (something I learned when I was filing with better business bureau). Recently they replaced 2 HVAC units at my home; a downstairs package unit and an upstairs heat pump. Neither were cheap as you can imagine. But I was able to work with them on price, using the Costco HVAC program as a frame of reference. I told them I wanted to give them this business but they had to be price-competitive. Forrest was very willing to sharpen the pencil and I got 2 units (similar to the ones being replaced) for a good price. I was happy to use the same brand as the 2 units that were being replaced as they served me well for over 17 years. I made the decision to replace both units on Monday and Standard/Forrest had their crew at my home on Wednesday morning at 8am. They were finished by 3pm and did a nice job cleaning up the inside of my home (I was expecting company for the weekend that evening, so this was highly appreciated). Mike, Marshall, Skyler, Trystan and Alex all did a great job on the install (and clean up) although most of my interaction was with Marshall.
