For my last trip, I decided to take advantage of a recent promotion to go from Dublin to Holyhead (Wales) with a same-day return for only €5 (I had membership credit for a total cost of €1 round-trip). I was in the middle of a big writing project, and so I took advantage of the deal as a day out with scenery and WiFi to get work done. In the middle, I enjoyed a little visit to Holyhead, which previously, I'd only seen through doors as I walked to the train. Honestly, it was a lovely day, and I enjoyed seeing the lanes of cars and caravans packed with kayaks and bicycles as people went on their August holidays. It was nice, too, that Stena provided activities onboard for children, including crafts, some kind of mini-play, and family-friendly films. I wouldn't mind if Stena cleaned and upgraded their seating areas and provided more spots to "plug in." Even in the Stena-plus lounge (which features unlimited snacks & beverages), it's seats along the periphery that have plugs, and those mostly have little side cafe tables. Upgrading their WiFi and providing some work stations would make a big difference. Still, it's pretty terrific to have a stress-free, comfortable, and inexpensive transportation to London with gorgeous views from the ship and from the train, if you choose to take advantage of that option.

Ok Stena line - I do a bit of travelling to the UK and its honestly cheaper to bring the car when you have a few places to visit and they're not all based around London and da tube! Irish Ferries, Mmmm ... whatever it is about IF, I can't put my finger on it - they do try hard, but it just feels cheap, it just feels like I'm getting taken for a ride (which I am, on water...), it feels wrong, in fact the last time I went Irish Ferries the craft was over crowded, smelly and the staff just not very pleasant ... so, back to Stena! ... I like them, apart from the website which needs to be brought into the 20th century, they actually do offer a good service. They do actually listen, really listen! if you have questions / problems and do I honestly feel provide a better service than IF. The trick with Stena, especially when driving, is to spend an extra few quid and go for premium - it makes a world of a difference. You get access to the premium lounge, which may not sound something amazing, but trust me, its worth a lot when you are tired, potentially have children with you and want to know that your seat will still be there when you come back from the loo or general ambling about (whilst trying to keep upright!). The premium lounge is situated in a particularly good position and even if the sea is a tad rough (which its generally not), its quite comfortable ... not that the same can be said if you've baggsed a seat along the side of the ship! Top tip - if its not midsummer and very good weather is almost guaranteed, do NOT travel on the smallest ship with afair is called "the lynx" ... its a tiny little thing and is tossed around like a rubber-ducky in a 3year olds bathtub ... splash, splash, splash!! (oh and no point in buying premium on that wee tub, there's SFA difference between premium and normal on that craft) ps: update - a few days after travelling with Stena for the final time this year, first, new top tip, JOIN COMPASS POINTS!!!! ... I normally avoid these frequent flyer jobbies, my information is more valuable than the return they generally give back (Tesco take note!) ... anyway, I went to pay for my trip this time and it asked me if I wanted to use my points in part payment - Yep! says me.. why not? ... Ohhhh, nice shiney nice, they gave me almost €120 off the total fare!!! ... now THATS SWEET! pps: Stena, if you're reading this I DONT like your new style premium lounge - the chairs dont have high enough headrests, making it difficult to get a comfortable position on hte midnight ferry when one is trying to grab a wee snooze! .... change them for the comfy old ones, or the puppy gets it....

Pretty easy to navigate. Follow the crowds after you deplane from your flight to get to…read moreimmigration - it's actually pretty easy. Lines at immigration were long. Think Disney World winding around long. But it did move pretty quickly, as some stations were initially designated for EU citizens only, but they opened up those stations for US citizens as well since it had become pretty crowded. Easy to locate a ride outside the airport, too. Hail a cab (no need to prebook if you don't want to), or hop on an available bus to bring you to your destination. This is a very crowded airport, so keep your wits about you, look at the signs and ask for help if you need to. Help is graciously provided should you need assistance. Be prepared to walk up and down stairs or take the escalator, as this airport has multiple levels. If you're toting a bunch of luggage or a stroller, that can slow you down. All in all, not a bad airport, unless you're leaving and have to go through security. That's a whole other story relayed in a separate review.

When we arrived, we went straight to baggage claim. The walk is really really far and I had a heavy shoulder bag, so the hubs ended carrying it for me. Our bags didn't take that long to come out, but our friend's took a awhile. Not sure if it was because he didn't have priority boarding or if it was just a fluke. Grabbing a cab was easy. The bus dropped us off just a half block from our hotel!!! You can't beat that!!! Friendly, prompt and timely service on a new double decker bus - this sure beats the Blue line coming from Ohare to downtown Chicago.

The 747 and 757 lines (great names) take different routes through the city and to the big train stations. While it took me a bit to figure out which was the right bus and which stop was the right one for me, I got there. €6 for a single or €10 for a return, the bus ride was quick and stopped two blocks from my hotel. Super easy. Lots of space for luggage downstairs and I decided that it was a good idea to stay with the luggage. There was enough room to stand nearby. Yes, the bus offers a free wifi signal. Bonus! And then... the return. The bus blew right past the stop. Yes, we flagged it. Yes, the driver looked right at us. No, it did not stop.

The shower was nice and hot with great shower pressure. Breakfast was included- basic but enough to start the day. The staff were all very nice. You need to use the room key to enter the hotel so it is secure. The location is also very good- away from the noisy touristy area but within walking distance of many sites. I was able to walk everywhere in 15-20 min. There is a taxi stand on the side street right next to the hotel too. I booked early so I got a really good price for this hotel and I definitely would stay here again.

Upon arrival our room wasn't ready so they treat me and my wife to a nice cold beer and apologized for the inconvenience. With a cold beer in my hand was ok by me. They had our room ready before we finished our beers. The staff here is exceptional when it comes to customer service. I like that they keep the front door locked and have a door man to keep those that don't belong out. The hotel is very clean in all places. The bed was a little stiff for my liking, but I have back issues so probably a me problem. This hotel itself is very quiet. The street noise had brief moments of people yelling. If you stay here check to see if your windows are open. We didn't know they were and once we figured that out it helped with some of the noise. Parking here is about a block away and a bit pricey. Make sure they validate your parking for the reduced rate. The location makes a lot of things within walking distance. We walked to the zoo and temple bar areas during our stay. I would stay here again for sure.

Friendly service and very reasonably priced tickets for our travels. Guided to the platform we needed to depart from, and away we went. A working station that lacks a lot of frills, but it gets the job done. We needed tickets, we got them, we boarded and made it for a lovely day in Howth. If you're in Dublin and want to take a day trip somewhere, this is the spot to go.

I made a purchase at the stations kiosk and carelessly left my phone on the counter as I picked up my purchase. A few minutes later as I sat on the platform (still unaware I was missing my phone) this young lady, whom I recognised from the kiosk, approached me confirming I had just made a purchase. "I think you left your phone on the counter behind you". As she handed it over to me I was still unaware I was missing it and thanked her. She then rushed back to her kiosk realising it was unattended. I would like to applaud her for honesty and swift action in locating me as we could quite easily have been anywhere on the station or possibly already on our train. She is a credit to her upbringing and to her employers. I wish her well in her future and hope I get the opportunity to remind her of the thoughtful act that day. She can be very proud of herself.
