Really delicious Indian food near Taksim Square…read more Started with the vegetarian Samosas. Came out piping hot and crispy. So delicious served with four sweet and savory dipping sauces. Main vegetarian entrees included palak paneer (spinach with Indian paneer cheese) and chana masala (a chickpea dish). The lamb in the lamb palak was so tender and perfectly cooked in spinach. Nice to mix with the yogurt dipping sauces. The sesame naan and biryani were perfect to soak up the delicious palak entrees. Service was so attentive and a great value at 180 Turkish lira (about $30) for dinner.

I'm glad I didn't listen to Yelp, on this one!…read more Since there's only one review, the rating is pretty skewed. Contrary to the previous reviewer, I had a pleasant and delicious experience! I've had Indian food in MANY different places and LOOOVE it!! This place didn't disappoint. I found the flavors authentic, service very attentive, and the overall ambience was very warm and welcoming. My husband and I had the bartha, vegetable biriyani, papadum, tandori roti, and the dal soup. All was great! We were very happy to come across this place and it's much more appealing reviews on Google (4 1/2 stars out of almost 200 reviews...come on yelpers!) Given there is one less than mediocre Indian restaurant in Ankara, THIS place was definitely a blessing!

Very disappointing- we did like the samosa. We will probably never return - the only reason we went there were good reviews from net & because my husband was ill & we needed a place that was close to our hotel.

The man came and answered our questions regarding vegan options. He was Indian but spoke Turkish. We sat down and got the menu. Waited about 15 minutes and nobody was coming. So I asked the woman if anyone was coming to take out order, she said she thought he has taken our order. We ordered vegan dishes, and biryani vegetable rice. Let's just say, I barley ate. Our eggplant dish, didn't taste right. However, the lady and I didn't finish our food. By evening, my lady stomach was hurting, it normally happens, when animal products contaminated the food. It happens when you been a Vegan for 6 years and being vegan chose her. We explains the importance of this to the chef. We kind of knew with the ongoing miscommunication, something wasn't going to be right. I myself, love Indian food and can eat anything. I must say, the flavors wasn't it. Just salty and greasy.

Great food, warm welcome and service, entertaining atmosphere!…read more There is an overwhelming amount of restaurants to choose from in the old city. However, we came here twice because we enjoyed it so much. The staff are super welcoming and put on a great show. We also loved the hot lemon tea, the resident cats, and the vegetarian options. So when I spotted this Indian Restaurant near the Ciragan Palace area, it was too good an opportunity to pass up. On the plus side, it was, indeed, a break from Turkish food. The staff was friendly and spoke enough English to get along. The food was prepared fresh. It came hot (temperature.) On the less-positive side, as others have noted, it is definitely not The Real Thing. This is a Turkish neighborhood and less touristy. So I would call it Indian/Turkish food. The dishes were pretty bland. Now, in fairness, the waitress did ask me how spicy I wanted it and I indicated medium. But on the Turkish scale medium is pretty low-end on the American scale. Notwithstanding, the lamb dish was tasty and the mulligatawny soup was a winner. The only serious disappointment was the Garlic Nan, which was baked hard and pretty tasteless. So, I am glad I gave it a shot. It was a welcome break. I would recommend it for someone in the same state of mind (stomach) as I was. But I won't be going back very soon.

They have a couple specials that I tried and can highly recommend: first one is their I. G. Chicken Tikka special appetizer. It was spicy and very tender. Generous portion, too. Wanted to try a veggie dish, so also tried their special I.G. Paneer with a spicy tomato sauce. Really good. Perfect with a basmati rice. The yogurt sauce was creamy and a great tasting way to calm down the spiciness. Medium hot is very spicy! The food is excellent and it's very good quality but it's a little pricey for Indian food in Turkey. For a mango lassi, a chicken appetizer and one veggie entree with rice it was a little over 2100 TL.

Many of the reviews mention the good service, but my experience has been a little different. Every time I've visited here, I felt very uncomfortable and I don't find it welcoming. They still have an enormous amount of tourist business because of the Bourdain connection, and people seem to come here almost as a pilgrimage. The food itself is very good, but honestly, it isn't significantly better than some of the other places nearby. There are several restaurants in the area serving good kebap. Overall, glad I tried it because of the Bourdain connection, but for me, the hype is much bigger than the experience.

Misled by the previous reviewers and their high points, we decided to try Little India, which is closer to our home. It was not a good choice. We had chicken tikka masala and it is the worst tikka masala I have ever had so far. It had too much tomato sauce and was missing certain spices. They did not have feeding chair and did not accept credit card payments. They made us walk all the way to another shop of the owner a few blocks away to make the payment. The interior design of the restaurant is very cheap. I felt uncomfortable about its cleanliness. The food was way overpriced. We paid more than the double it deserved for its service and food. Only good thing that makes me give one star is the staff. Would not recommend this place until they make significant improvements.
