Terrible pharmacy. Always long lines, always rude service. Twice I have had to pay for life-saving medication, simply because I need it. Now I have to figure out how to get reimbursed for prescribed mediation that I have been taking for years, which is covered by a healthcare program that I already pay exorbitant amounts of money for every month. I have used different Duane Reade outlets in Manhattan, and this is the only one that (consistently) gives me problems--still, if this is how you treat your customers in Queens, I am switching pharmacies altogether. Duane Reade has a standard to live up to. They are one of the biggest drug store chains in the nation and when you walk into any Duane Reade, you expect a certain level of professional respectful kind attitude from its staff. This particular Duane Reade at 73-01 37th Avenue in Jackson Heights Queens however is different. They had a sale on soda in 12 packs and there were two stacks of soda at the exact same sale price. I grabbed two from one pile and one from another pile. When I went to pay, the new guy helping me did his best and was polite but the manager at the next register was telling me that I couldn't mix and match From the two piles. I told him that the prices were identical and he told me that I couldn't mix the sodas. Now I have no problem really with the store policy, it's what it is. My problem was the horrid rude way this man spoke to me. When I would start to ask my question, I would get to my second word and he'd already be loudly talking over me saying "YOU CAN'T MIX!!" I had a few questions and every time, he did this. This type of treatment towards customers is absolutely unacceptable and this man needs to be retrained or fired. He is an older man who looks and sounds possibly Indian. I love my multicultural community, that has nothing to do with this 1 star rating. I just don't appreciate being treated like dirt. read more

They notified me on Friday that my prescription was ready to be picked up. When I went to get it on Saturday, they were closed. And Sunday. And Monday. With no explanation. I asked my doctor to switch the prescription to the Walgreens on 75th and 31st and they wouldn't fill it there because they said it was already filled by the other pharmacy and I couldn't get any more medication until October. After getting barked at repeatedly to call my insurance company, I sat on hold crying for an estimated wait of an hour and a half, intermittently texting my psychiatrist to see if he could help. The pharmacist finally fixed things after my husband had to intervene, which was embarrassing, but that's what happens when you are three days behind on anti-anxiety medications that are actually dangerous to discontinue. These guys do not uphold their responsibilities when it comes to helping patients. read more

I would give them no stars if it were an option. This Duane Reade SUCKS!!! There staff is lazy, rude and have no idea what it means to provide customer service. I went in to buy a couple of things, toothbrushes being one of them. They have all the electric toothbrushes locked up (why do they have a $10 toothbrush under lock & key), so you need to get one of the employees to unlock it for you. There was a button to press to supposedly summon an employee. I pressed the button three times. I waited for about 5 minutes and figured I would look for the other stuff I needed and hopefully would find an employee who could unlock the toothbrushes for me. I found a young woman stocking shelves two aisles over and asked her if she could unlock the toothbrushes. She mumbled something unintelligible and went back to stocking. So I asked her again if she would unlock the toothbrushes at which point she started shouting something to another employee (I presume) in her native language. I figured she had asked whomever had the keys to come and help. So I continued looking for the other items I had come into the store for. After having found them I returned to the young lady I had asked for assistance. She made a big deal of getting off her step stool and flounced off somewhere. I continued to wait a couple more minutes and when she hadn't returned I went to go look for her. She was two aisles over talking with another employee. This had now been about 10 minutes and no one was of any help. As I was walking up to the counter to pay for the other things I had come in for I spotted about 4 or 5 more employees stocking shelves, not to mention the two women behind the register doing NOTHING!!! I dropped all the things I had in my hands on the counter and walked out. If this is how they train their staff I don't want to give them any of my money. With all the other Mom & Pop pharmacies in the neighborhood, like Frank's, who will order things they don't usually carry for you, as well as having great customer service, you would think they might have better trained staff. The only reason I went here in the first place, is because it was raining and I didn't want to walk the 4 extra blocks to Frank's. Funny how I came here to see if anyone had a bad encounter with the pharmacist - Mary Lim and that was the first photo I saw. Asked a simple question and this lady just seemed pissed off. Felt like she just wanted to brush me off when I waited for her to consult me. Can't imagine how she treats others. Ugh, I hate it here although I visit it often and appreciate that it's open 24 hours. The morning staff is always nicer and more helpful than staff at any other time. The pharmacy is a nightmare and after a few months of getting prescriptions filled there, I took my prescriptions elsewhere. It's been a few months since the cashier passed me a counterfeit bill in my change. Needless to say, there was no satisfaction. I ate the loss. Did I contact Duane Reade customer service? Yes. Sent them a detailed email with the store number, date of transaction, what happened, etc. I requested a store credit, and offered to mail them the counterfeit bill. Their response: absolutely nothing. How much money have I spent at Duane Reade since this situation? Zero ($0) dollars. How many people have I told this story to? Many. SO not a fan of this particular Duane Reade. Customer Service is meh, selection of products is meh compared to other Duane Reades and when there is a line, rest assured they will take FOREVER. I mean, I've waited like 15 minutes just to get medicine because A.) Their cashiers are slow and management is either nowhere to be found, too lazy to pitch in and awful at line management (or managing things in general, lol) and B.) They're so conveniently close to the trains and 24 hours. The rudest employees I have ever experienced. I've only lived in the area for 2 months and I despise the fact this is my nearest drug store. Super slow, always a line, last time I went my cashier didn't even say hello to me though I said hi to her, this Korean woman three cashiers down was holding up a huge line because she wanted to buy ice cream on sale, but didn't have a member ship card. Finally my cashier speaks to me, and asks for MY CARD so we can help this woman get discount on ice cream. I said no because I only punch in my cell number in to get any discounts and I waited too long and was in a rush. My cashier again IGNORES me and asks me two more times for my card, like she was demanding it, while this woman holds up a huge line for 1.00 off ice cream. I cussed out the cashiers. I try not to shop at places that make me feel a certain way... so I'm adding this place to my list. I was there a few weeks ago to buy a juice. I was on the main line, there was no one behind me and one person ahead of me. I remembered that I ordered photos so I got off of the line and waited on the photo line. By the time I was at the photo register, the man that was ahead of me on the main line was already being checked out. I told the photo cashier that I'm here to pick up photos, she told me to wait on the main line. I said for pictures? She said yes. I said well OK. I went back to the main line to wait again ( because I was up next anyway) and when I got to the register and asked for the photos, the main cashier looked confused and said, you have to go to the photo desk. I said well she just told me to come over here. Then she asks for my name and shouts it at photo chick, who couldn't find it so the photo woman told me to come back. I said loudly, OH NOW YOU WANT ME TO COME OVER THERE, and she giggles and says yes please. No apology, no nothing. I did the survey that they always beg you to do when I got home and gave her all 0s. Now I am a Black woman, and often times in this 'hood, I get treated a certain way. I'm in the process of having all of my prescriptions moved to the pharmacy near my job and I no longer shop there for my random juice cravings. I've never been treated like that in my life. I wish her well in life, but clearly customer service is not her forte. I think her name was Chalika. People need to learn how to interact with all colors of the rainbow and not make assumptions. She needs to be retaught. I didn't think it was worth to go to management because it's Duane reade. No one is going to care. I don't get rowdy, I don't make scenes, I just use my words and take my money to CVS. read more

This is by far the worst Duane Reade that I have used. The pharmacy department is absolutely, horrendously horrible. If you take medicine that cannot be refilled until day 30 (controlled substance) they cannot count and do not release until day 31. They lie. They say it can be picked up today. You arrive, wait in line 45 minutes only to be told it cannot be released til tomorrow. And deny having said it would be ready. Slowest and worst service. No one helps. They will go and hide from you if you challenge them. I'm leaving the neighborhood. I am so happy to not have to deal with them except one last time tomorrow. I'm sure there will be an issue. They also hang up on you. And deny it. read more

Went to the store to take some pictures of products for a survey. Manager came over and told me I could not take pictures of products. I asked her "I'm not?" She said "No, it's store policy." I walked towards the door and she followed me to make sure I left the store. Didn't even bother to think I'd buy anything. Called to complain, spoke to District Manager. He basically echoed what he said. I told him the manager could've handled it a better way. He said yes but it's store policy. Oh and he ended the conversation with "Thanks, hon." The pharmacist is such a yenta. She's like oh you have this prescription and that one you cant take them both. I have anxiety and she has made it difficult for me that I had to go to the ER with a panic attack thanks to her. She's not my doctor so why would she tell me I cant take something he prescribed and worse of all she calls me at 9 pm on a Friday night. Go to a 24 hour cvs and where they have bathrooms or rite aid down the st. It takes forever to wait to get your prescription and you cant even use the facilities. I can't believe the prices that DR is charging for vitamins. I bought B-Comples (60 tables) and they charged me $16.99, at another store they were selling same thing, but 100 tablets for $7.50 I also bought C 1000 (60 tablets) for $17.99, at the other store they were selling 250 tablets for $16.00. I will NEVER shop at DR again. They are over pricing their products, which as a senior citizen I cannot afford. Check other stores before you ever buy at DR!!!! read more
