Nick checked in on me a few times to talk about either trimming more, or cleaning something up before jumping in. That kind of communication you don't see until you walk out with a haircut or beard trim you never asked for in most places. The shop itself is a true barbershop: great music, great energy, Bruins were on, all the chairs were full with happy customers. I typed in Black Barber Shop into yelp (don't judge me), and this was one of the first that came up. I skimmed through the photos and narrowed it down to this shop and another one on the list, now it was time to do an in depth search of the barber who had the best skills with the clippers. After careful consideration I chose Black Label. For the next week or so I was glued to their Instagram page and constantly checking their yelp like a true stalker. I knew right away I wanted the guy with all the tattoos to do my cut, I searched and searched and finally someone mentioned his name LONG! What a perfect fit, because it took me a long behind time to find out who I had been obsessed with for the preceding 7 days! Finally I went to the website and booked the next available appointment. So Tuesday came I couldn't wait to get in Longs chair to get my cut! My friend came to get me and we took the very short drive over to the shop where there was surprisingly so much parking even after the storm. We went upstairs and I walked into the shop with the dorkiest look on my face grinning as I asked for Long, he was just finishing up another client and I took my seat. Immediately I noticed how immaculately clean the shop was and how quiet and respectful the other barbers were. Long came over introduced himself, shook my hand and we headed to his chair. I showed him a few pictures and he listened to every intricate detail I mentioned to achieve my desired cut! During the cut I got to know so much about him because I was giving him an impromptu interview since I had been stalking his whole life for the past week. After he was finished it was time for the reveal... if you've ever gotten a major haircut before you know the feeling of the final chair spin before you see the mirror and OMG OMG OMG I freaking LOVE MY HAIRCUT!!! As a first time mom, I have zero experience with Barber Shops, other than that my husband has had a heck of a time finding a new barber that he likes since the barber he grew up with retired. Since we will be moving to the area soon, my husband figured he would try his luck with a local Yelp search. I was a little worried that my almost two year old son would be scared or squirmy or impatient - just the opposite! He was ENTHRALLED with a HUGE SMILE on his face the entire time!!! Abdul put a booster seat on the "big boy" chair and put kiddo in an adorable octopus and whales smock (who happens to LOVE both octopuses and whales, as luck would have it!) I was also worried that he would wind up with a generic "big kid" fade and trim when he has such a beautiful head of golden locks! I asked Abdul if there was any way to keep it long and "elf-ish"? He suggested a simple "clean-up" with scissors and no trimmer. Simply put, Abdul was a masterful pro. The cut took literally 12 minutes. I know, because I filmed the whole thing :-) . My son looked so confident and proud when he was finished! And then Abdul topped it off with a lollipop to commemorate the occasion while we waited for Dada to get his stunning haircut to match for our date night! The barbers have done a fantastic job ducking and weaving to cut my son's hair while his head is turning. They are extremely patient and kind. Their scissors-only cuts (clippers are scary for my little guy) always look great. You can tell that they take great pride in their work, even for the littlest customers. Three of them are usually there on Saturdays and if I ever wait its for less than ten minutes. I have three kids and they all enjoy coming here too, but I hate paying full price for them. The kids love that they each get lollipops after their haircuts. But $18 for a kids haircut is ridiculous. After going in with my older two boys (3, 5) and paying $60 just fifteen minutes later (for three of us) I feel a deep sense of getting ripped off.
