want to share my experience at this Drybar location. My 13-year-old daughter had an appointment for a blowout, and she's particular about her hair -- she wants it sleek and straight, but a previous visit left it frizzy and not styled the way she wanted. So this time, I let the manager, Sabrina, know in advance that my daughter preferred a different stylist. Sabrina became defensive and accusatory, telling me she wasn't going to let me "blame and dismiss" her stylist. I calmly explained that wasn't my intention at all -- I was simply requesting a different stylist for my daughter's appointment, which should be a reasonable request. Instead of listening, she was dismissive and rude throughout the conversation, and stood there chewing gum the entire time, which came across as disrespectful and unprofessional. This isn't an isolated incident -- this location has consistently had staff who are rude and dismissive. It's disappointing to pay for a membership and never know whether I'm going to get a good experience or a frustrating one. Drybar needs to do a better job training staff at this location on basic customer service. read more

I've been a long time client & used to love this play, lately it's going downhill, go to Burbank location. Their "extended time" at this location has turned into scam art. I arrived early for my 7:45 am apt, of course they check me in. I don't start the service till after 8:00 am I don't recall exactly when but I know it was thereafter because I looked at time and thought to myself I def won't be home when I expected. Great, ok I wait, things happen. Stylist is great, most of them here are, and have always finished my hair within an hour. I go to check out extended time is added without mention. I bring it up, the response " we have you checked in 7:43 am" ... uh. Yes because that's when I came in for my 7:45 am apt, However, you guys didn't start me till after 8 am... Why don't you guys start being honest & start time when our stylist gets us not when WE arrive ON TIME? Bad review on your end by corporates or? Doing these things at cost of your clients ? "This is the manager" yes I know I've been her plenty... manager says, " I'll waive it for you this one time." It's not about the waiving, it's the principle, manners, & honesty. What a shame, won't be returning. & I'd like to mention I made sure they charged me the $30. Again not about the $30, can care less about the money, but the fact that I came in early... waited patiently without saying anything for that to be the outcome is embarrassing and def not good business. read more

I am writing to formally address an exceptionally poor customer-service experience at your Studio City location. I made an appointment in advance, drove nearly an hour to get there, and arrived on time. Upon my arrival, your associate specifically acknowledged that she had seen my name on the schedule earlier, but that my appointment had subsequently "disappeared." Despite recognizing that the scheduling failure occurred internally--and despite having what appeared to be sufficient time to accommodate me following her last client--I was turned away. Frankly, I find this unacceptable. I had an event to attend and had organized my entire schedule around a confirmed appointment. Your internal scheduling error ultimately became my problem, leaving me stressed and scrambling at the last minute to find another salon after I had already invested nearly an hour driving to your location. The issue here extends beyond a scheduling mistake. Mistakes happen. The far more concerning issue is the complete lack of ownership, professionalism, and effort to remedy a problem your business created. A customer who makes an appointment, arrives on time, and is then told by an employee that the appointment mysteriously disappeared should not simply be dismissed and sent away. This is not how a professionally operated service business retains the trust or loyalty of its clientele. I would appreciate this matter being reviewed by management and a substantive response explaining what occurred, why no reasonable effort was made to accommodate me, and what you intend to do to make this right. I expect considerably better from a business that accepts appointments and asks its customers to rely upon them. read more

I had a wedding to go to and made an appointment at the Dry Bar in Studio City. I haven't been here in a while so I wasn't sure what to expect. But Erica was wonderful, she did an amazing job with my hair. She blow dried it and gave me a few big curls. Absolutely loved it. I got so many compliments. The "area manager" made this nine thousand times worse. I booked a dry style and while my hair was a bit damp, they immediately jumped to "we have to charge full price for a blow out" - I was in a hurry and agreed, but then the felt the need to say it 5 more times to the point where I just didn't want these people touching my hair anymore so I left. I realize they'd like then try to charge me for a late cancel, so I go back within seconds and they've literally already put someone else in my chair who just did a walk in - the front desk girl says she has to have her area manager approve not charging the late cancel. This person comes up front after doing God knows what with some short haired man in the back after giggle fitting and running around the shop with him (seriously, what is this?) and she again proceeds to belabor the point about needing to charge more. During this time I pull up the booking process where in I show them that NOWHERE in here does it say anything about wet or DAMP hair. You want $35 for a flat iron? And you want $69 for a blow dryer and flat iron, no wash? The area manager then proceeds to go on and on and on and ON about how she has never had a complaint from staff or customers (lady, look at your own Yelp and Glassdoor reviews) and that I "should be happy" that maybe now DryBar will add this to the website. What an ugly human. She solved nothing and made this exponentially worse - she could have just done the blow out, but she wanted to go back to her boyfriend and ignore a customer who pointed out issues with their booking system. I went with my cousin to a blowout appointment today and I was baffled with what we walked out with. For 64$ + tip I didn't expect her hair to look like she just came out the shower and air dried it. I felt very bad because she was having a really bad week and I just wanted to cheer her up and do stuff she liked. The lady was very sweet so idk what went wrong maybe she's not trained well enough? I've come here on and off over the last few years and I always make a note when I make my appointment that I have thick, long & very tight curly hair requesting someone with experience and so they can schedule appropriate timing. Some stylist are better than others and some stylist take longer than others. Today it took the stylist significantly longer than other times. It took 30 mins just to wash and comb my hair. The stylist was gentle and combed in sections which I really appreciated. She did a nice job but someone did come help her flat iron as it was taking a while. I still had no problems and really liked my hair, she did a great job! My issue was when I paid the receptionist told me they wouldn't charge me this time but next time I'd have pay an add on fee of $30 because it took longer than 1 hour. She told me to select an add on next time I book so they can schedule enough time. I asked if I did the add on would there still be a fee and she said yes. So I was like so anyone with curly hair has to pay extra?! She paused and then said your hair is long. This extra fee is discriminatory towards Black Women. For reference I have 4a hair. I asked if this was a new policy and allegedly this is a new policy created within the last few months. I will not be coming back and encourage other Black women to skip this place too. read more

I had a 12:45 PM appointment for a dry style and was not seen for my appointment until 1:30 PM! I had approximately 10 minutes for the Stylist to do my hair and at one point the front desk girl had left the front desk for 15 minutes so I couldn't even ask about the status of my appointment. Apparently, because they have a 15 minute grace period for clients if they come late, they don't have the services spaced out to then make time for the other clients and their appointments. I would have left after waiting for so long but got no clarity on when my actual appointment would start and had planned my day around getting my hair styled for an event. It was so so frustrating and I've had to wait for awhile more than once at this location. Won't be back. read more

I normally get my blowouts done somewhere else, but because I had my friend's wedding to attend on Friday, I decided to trust Drybar for a more polished, professional result. I chose a style from their own menu and even brought a photo from Google with soft, wavy curls--very close to what I wanted. The stylist (she was Persian) finished my hair and asked me to check the mirror. I was honestly shocked. The result looked nothing like the style I selected. It was uneven, lacking shape, and looked like a beginner had done it. I told her this wasn't what I requested, and instead of helping, she blamed my hair and told me I "should bring extensions." I never said my hair wasn't enough--I said the styling was poorly done. Then she asked me, in a rude tone, to "show pictures of my hair done by other stylists," as if the problem was me and not the quality of her work. I felt horrible. I had just told them I was going to a wedding, and instead of fixing the situation or showing professionalism, she put the responsibility back on me. I ended up asking for the manager, who came and fixed my hair within minutes. That alone proved the original stylist simply didn't know how to do the style--and shouldn't have blamed the customer. This was my first time trying Drybar for something special, and unfortunately it will also be my last. A blowout studio known for expertise should never leave a client embarrassed, upset, or having to beg for help right before an event. read more

I love coming to this location, but I feel like the staff is very unorganized. My appointment was scheduled for 2 PM, and I arrived 10 minutes early. However, I saw them take someone else who arrived after me, even though it was already past my appointment time. I also think it's unfair that if a customer is 15 minutes late, it's considered unacceptable, yet when they're running behind, they expect us to wait without any communication. It would be much better if they acknowledged the delay and offered an update, a drink, or an option to come back at a later time. Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to happen. Very underwhelmed with the service - she asked me no questions about my hair, the event and timeline I would want my hair to hold up for. She barely used any product going into blow drying, a couple sprays that I barely felt and then a little bit of hairspray at the end. And then I pointed out places that my hair still looked flat and while she went to recurl them she blamed my hair, which while straight normally holds curls decently well but needs more product. The job also felt uneven with the additional curls she added at the end which while fixing the parts from being flat then didn't really mesh well with the rest of my hair. Terrible just terrible. My face was burned about 6 years ago at this location. I still have a small scar. I decided to give it another go this year. I went about four times this year and I have never been offered water or anything. The manager is extremely unwelcoming and she doesn't know how to communicate. I've been to this location a few times now. Overall, it's ok. Today I encountered an issue with being double charged. One of the employees who helped me was very kind but said she couldn't refund me the extra charge. She said that her manager, Sabrina, who was there, wanted me to reach out to the regional manager to deal with it on my own. The issue was not caused by me. So the suggestion that I reach out instead of just issuing me a refund felt off. Also weird, that the manager made the employee have the conversation, though the employee handled it very professionally. But things got worse when the employee went back to the manager Sabrina, and asked her to reach out on my behalf. Sabrina called me from the desk. It was very loud and I asked her to come over to where I was seated. She rolled her eyes and never came over to speak with me. After about 10 minutes, she yelled my name again from the desk and said it's taken care of. Curtly and abruptly. She never once apologized for the issue or made any attempt to even acknowledge me after that. She even charged me at checkout and didn't say a word to me. I thought that would be the worst of it, but when I received a call back from Rachel, the regional manager, she exhibited the same rudeness. She starts by saying, hey Kim this is Rachel, what's going on, which seemed a bit curt as well. But I started to explain anyhow and instead of listening she immediately starts responding. I eventually get to fully explain the situation and she said, well I'm sorry that you feel that way, BUT Sabrina called me to figure this out because she CARES. As someone in the hospitality business, CARE does not show up like rolling your eyes, purposefully ignoring the customer who needs your help, and never engaging them at all with something as simple as, I'm really sorry for the mixup today. Let's see what we can do. And quite honestly, after speaking with Rachel the Regional Manager I can see why Sabrina thinks that behavior is acceptable. I did give this location another shot because I still had my membership and I have to say that everyone at this location is absolutely amazing. I've had nothing but wonderful interactions and I have one or two times that I needed to change my appointment and they were so flexible, accommodating and nice. I love getting dolled up so when my friend suggested that I get my hair done at a salon for my bday I thought it would be a great way to treat myself. Parking wasn't hard but Ventura Blvd can get really busy so I got their early. The place was cute inside. They had 'Clueless' playing on screen and offer you refreshments, like water, champagne, etc. I scheduled a dry styling ($35) because I like to use my own products when blow drying. They did start about 10 min after my appointment time but I wasn't in a rush. The receptionist was nice and so was my stylist. We had a great convo. They have a lot of options for you to choose from and you can also bring in inspo pics and they said they will do their best to make it happen. I asked for the "Old Fashioned" and it took about 45 min. Not sure it was really an "old fashioned" because the curls were tighter than I expected but I was happiest with the results about 2 hours after and the curls were able to fall a bit. Overall I would come here again but maybe try a wash, blowout and styling for the full experience. read more

We love Drybar and have been regulars for a while, but unfortunately, this visit was very disappointing. This appointment was for my 12-year-old daughter, who was getting her hair done for dance team pictures. While the blowout was okay (the curls were done sloppily), the ponytail styling was a mess. I kindly explained at the beginning that we needed a sleek, slicked-back ponytail with strong product to avoid flyaways -- a very common request for dance. Instead of taking that direction professionally, the stylist cut me off, saying she was a dancer and knew what she was doing. I wasn't being critical, just giving clear instructions for a specific look. Halfway through, I pointed out that there were still flyaways and bumps. Instead of addressing the issue, she turned to my daughter to ask what she thought -- completely inappropriate. I'm the adult, and I'm the one paying for the service. It made my daughter uncomfortable and unsure of what to say, even though she wasn't happy with her hair either. By the end of the appointment, she just wanted to leave. When I brought up the same concern a third time, the stylist simply walked away without a word. I expect better professionalism and communication, especially when working with children. This experience was a real letdown and not reflective of the quality we've come to expect from Drybar read more

I had an issue an issue with a package I had purchased and everyone from the front desk to the manager and regional manager moved mountains to get a positive resolution for me. I was going to give three stars until the receptionist with the cartoon eyelashes made micro aggression comments towards me.... I called and asked if they know how to do textured hair and they said yes, then THEY booked my appointment via the phone. The stylist was able to wash my hair well, but then it was time for the condition... mind you I detangled my hair last night. This stylist thought it would be a good idea to use one wide tooth comb and try to detangle my hair all at once. She did not break it off into sections. Of course, this took a long time, and it felt like she was trying to detangle my hair more with her fingers than the comb. It just felt like she was just pulling, she wasn't getting anywhere. eventually 45 minutes had gone by and the receptionist with the funky teeth and bad breath offered to help. She also, did not get anywhere. Eventually they just gave up. The stylist seemed so frustrated. It honestly seemed like she was about to cry. They put me back in the chair and blow dried my hair, thank God with the comb attachment and not one of the bristle brushes. I offered to give any advice or help and give tips, but they Just said that it was " really knotted" (I have 3C-4A hair) Eventually, they were able to blow it dry and flat iron it. The stylist did do a good job flat iron it, she got it really straight. She, however, did not know how to part my hair, and so my middle part is completely crooked. It was then time to pay and the bimbo receptionist said she would need to charge me extra for going over 45 minutes. I said I made my appointment over the phone and I told them I have textured hair and the woman on the phone assured me that all of their stylist were comfortable with textured hair... That is clearly not true. She then proceeded to argue with me, saying that I should have built-in more time and I needed to come with my hair " fully prepped". excuse me?? I told her I detangled my hair yesterday, and I proceeded to tell her when you wash your hair, especially the way the stylist did it, it's just naturally going to get tangled again. She then gave me the funkiest dumb look I've ever seen almost saying that I was crazy and that's not true. You do not know MY hair so don't even act like you know better than me. she absolutely took no accountability, no sensitivity to how embarrassing it was already to have everyone starting at you while two stylists STRUGGLE to do your hair, and mind you I was the only black person in the entire store. This is not a safe space for people of color, this is not a safe space for people with coiled hair. She said she put a note in my file saying I have curly hair and need longer time... That right there shows that you are not equipped to handle textured hair if need to put a note in my file. "Warning! This person is black!!" This salon does not have the right tools, the right knowledge and the right patients to be able to get it done in a timely manner. You do not need to put a note in my file sweetie, because I am never coming back. read more

This is no disrespect to the two technicians who worked on my hair--they were both lovely and talented. But the guy running the front could use a few pointers, in terms of customer service. Because of how he handled a certain situation, I won't be going back. I had had such a hard day, and when I walked in there, I was SO looking forward to relaxing for the first time all week. To just getting my hair done and maybe reading a magazine...ya feel me, hardworking mamas out there?! So 4 minutes into my hair wash, during my shampoo, the front desk guy runs over and informs me and the technician that the "LADWP called and has to turn off their water!!!!" Umm. What? At a hair washing business?!? He then tells the girl to hurry up and rinse my hair, and said we had to be fully done in 20 minutes!!! The sweet technician did her best and had to rush through the conditioner and then two girls dried and curled my hair, all in the time span of 20 minutes. I'm actually really grateful to them, since they got it done and were sweet. But that dude kept coming over to check that they were almost done, eyeballing them to make sure they were hustling.....then asked me to pay while my hair was still getting dried. The whole thing was the actual OPPOSITE of relaxing, borderline ridiculous, and frankly beyond annoying. Like, a blowdry is $80 with tip!!! So here's a little tip from me, front desk guy: next time something like that happens, kindly give your customer a discounted price. Or at least a voucher, coupon, or a free product. Something! Not acknowledging a bad situation by at least making some sort of gesture toward the customer is not only bad business, but it's just plain shitty. I realize this is "rich peoples' problems", I get that. At the end of the day, it's just a blow-dry. But man, I was really looking forward to it. And all it would have taken to walk out of there feeling ok was a tiny gesture on your part. Instead, I left a stressed-out mess. read more

Poor management and lack of cleanliness. The place is run down with dust everywhere, even on the blow dryers and AC vents. It's impossible not to notice when you're getting your hair washed and looking up. I paid an extra $25 for an add-on that was completely pointless and did nothing. The staff wasn't welcoming, they were running late, and the overall atmosphere felt unprofessional. To top it off, my blowout wasn't even done properly with the face-framing sections not straight, and I had to fix them myself at home. $99 for what exactly? Definitely not worth it. read more

She appeared to be the manager. I arrived early for my appointment and was all but scolded for it by this person. It completely baffles me that anyone would speak to customers this way the second they walk through the door. She also speaks to the stylists in harsh ways, creating an uninviting and highly uncomfortable atmosphere. I regret even sitting down in the chair. Do yourself a favor and go to another location. Honestly, this was without a doubt the worst blowout I have ever had. They don't listen at all when you ask for a bouncy blowout, they just do whatever they feel like. I told my stylist exactly what I wanted, and the end result was embarrassing: frizzy broken curls left hanging and she didn't even bother parting my hair until I pointed it out. For the price they charge, the bare minimum I expect is a proper blowout not something I have to go home and fix myself. If I had known the stylist was this inexperienced, I never would have booked. Out of all the Drybar locations I've visited, Studio City was my favorite! What made this experience different from other Drybars was because of the stylist. I can't recall her name so I'll definitely have to reach out to them to ask and edit this post. Anyways, my appointment started off with the stylist asking me detailed questions such as, what type of blowout I was hoping for, if I had inspo pictures, and what I liked about those specific hair styles. She also asked me about how well my hair usually hold curls. The fact that she started off by asking detailed questions already gave me a sense that she truly wanted to give me what I came in for. Next, the stylist brought me to the back to wash my hair. She included a scalp massage and washed my hair twice (as requested). The stylist took her time and made the experience so relaxing! After, she took me back to her work station and worked her magic. The end results was exactly what I asked for. Genuinely, I left so happy. My curls held for days! Without a doubt, I plan to revisit this location for all my future blowouts! Tips: -they do not have their own private parking lot! You'll have to pay for valet or find street parking! -you can request for 1 or 2 washes (no additional charge) -you can book your appointments through their app -bring inspo photos -you can bring your own shampoo and conditioner if you want! read more

First of all, why would you offer braid services if your people can't braid?!! I made an appointment for 12pm. They pushed me unannounced to 12:15. I was sat at 12:30ish. I showed the stylist specific photos which is a very easy do. Very easy. I could do it myself but I'm very pregnant and can't really do much right now but breath. This do was for my baby shower btw. What should've been a 30min do took about an hour and a half cause she couldn't get a braids right. It was frustrating. Then the braid was supposed to be pinned to hold the hair and hairsprayed to have the hair back. I was charged an UP DO for 2 pins to hold my hair back cause she had no idea what to do. What has happened to Dry Bar? Although my blowouts are always "fine", long gone are the days of hair lasting for days and the whole spa experience is GONE. I haven't been offered a glass of bubbles let alone water in the past 2 years. Thought it was a covid thing yet I saw their fridge still displaying a loose paper showing the amount of drink to pour per glass "Pour no more, Por Favor". The stylists are not as well dressed and professional as they use to be. Seems more like a causal hair school hangout than work place tbh. While I was getting my hair washed another stylist came to mine and proceeded to add sequins to her hair. My stylist stopped washing my hair and continued laughing with her coworker about doing each other's hair while I was lying there with cold water running on my head. I've been coming to this branch as well as Encino and they're both the same. Feel more like cattle getting pushed through than an enjoyable experience like it is to be. read more
