Beware of this building contractor!!!…read more As written in numerous other reviews, I believe Hurlburt Builders and its owner Randy Hurlburt should not be considered for any of your housing construction or rehab needs. If you value honesty, quality and a reasonable resolution of issues that arise during a project, this is someone to avoid. This contractor will present a low bid and make many false claims but instead of saving you money, will lead to major headaches and a poorly done building project. As a low-income senior, I mistakenly hired Hurlburt Builders for a major home rehabilitation job. Almost immediately I ran into many problems and stopped the work before it was completed. It ended with an arbitration hearing conducted by the Massachusetts Department of Consumer Affairs. There are too many issues to list but focused on breach of contract; unacceptable contractor performance and conduct; failure to follow industry standards resulting in building and electrical code violations and making misrepresentations thus violating the Consumer Protection Law. I was awarded a settlement. Mr. Hurlburt's bluster and hubris could not hide evidence of his poor workmanship or his use of substandard practices and the subsequent damage done to my property. In my opinion, this is not a building contractor you can trust. I am writing this review because I hope other homeowners will heed the caution suggested here before considering hiring Hurlburt Builders. Protect yourself from bullying, unethical behavior and a botched construction venture.

Austin came over soon after we made our request, gave us a fair quote, and began the first part of the repair soon after. The project was in two parts because part of the damage was under solar panels. So we paid for what he did, and stayed in touch as the installers weren't able to get to us for weeks. Final roofing work happened yesterday, and he also replaced two shingles that had fallen since he'd left (not his fault). Easy to communicate with, generally responded same day or next day. Matthew came and looked at it and recommended a pressure treated fence to match the rest of the deck. He looked closely at it, took pictures and did an absolutely beautiful job. Matthew was always on time and finished in under a day. He also replaced a rotted handrail on the deck. It came out perfect!
