As Americans, we made it a priority to have a "proper cuppa" and crumpets, and I'm glad we chose Good and Proper Tea. With a hip, bright, inviting vibe this ever so slightly out of the way tea shop has everything a tea lover could ask for. No tea bags here, as all of the teas are in loose leaf form and steam pressed before being served. The staff was friendly and helpful, even for newbies like us. Even the born and bred Londoners appreciated the help with branching out and choosing a cup to fit their tastes. Teas offered range from simple, smooth black (#1 Assam) to full bodied smokey blacks like #8 Keemun. If you're looking for something with an Asian Oolong taste, Eastern Beauty (#14) offers a smooth slightly caramel flavor that would be great to snuggle up with on a cold dreary day. All of the teas have cards which show their country of origin down to the city with some. Tracing the origin of tea is definitely giving priority. Ok, I'll admit, I've never had crumpets in my life, but that doesn't take away from the fluffy goodness offered. With a wide array of topping from sweet to savory, you could spend days trying all the varieties and not be let down.

What an unique tea experience!…read more They have a huge selection of different teas you can choose from. I'm talking 5 different kinds of just green tea. Pick one and they brew it in a funky looking device that you can observe over the counter. Each tea comes with a little card which tells you more about it which is a nice touch. I was told their tea leaves are directly sourced and the staff are happy to chat about their personal recommendations if there isn't a queue. And the sourdough crumpets! I had mine slathered with raspberry jam but they do a variety of sweet and savoury toppings. I'm having crumpet cravings thinking about it.

The hype, in my opinion, is still a bit overdone, but I have to say, the coffee has only gotten better over time, and it's not the worst place for people-watching if you manage to snag a seat. Their espresso is now perfectly balanced and blends well with your choice of cow, oat, or nut juice. Their pastry selection has also expanded, and now carries a modest artisanal spread, from Pistachio Financiers to sugar-coated brioche. Croissants also abound, and in the colder months, they carry Italian Panetone, which soaks up that coffee brilliantly. The space is still small, and during the busier hours, your only probable choice will be to stand at one of the back counters with your tiny spread. They still don't offer take-away cups, unless you're willing to shell out £5 for one of their reusable cups. The bright side: You get those £5 back if you return the cup. Being one of London's finer purveyors of coffee, they also sell pricey beans with a little something for every coffee lover to take home with them. If you happen to come during the Winter Holidays, try to snag one of their cozy seats in the corner of the shop beneath the window facing Borough Market; you won't be sorry.

The smell alone, freshly roasted coffee beans, should honestly be bottled. Their menu is perfectly curated. Not overwhelming, not trying too hard, just a small selection of drinks and pastries that they execute exceptionally well. I ordered the Kyoto latte, and wow, it absolutely lived up to the hype. It had the perfect balance of creamy and lightly sweet without crossing into that heavy, sugary territory like a mocha. Just a subtle hint of sweetness that makes it feel elevated but still simple. I also grabbed a pound of beans to take home, and I'm so glad I did. There's something about having that same fresh, smooth coffee at home that makes your mornings feel a little more intentional. If you're into quality over quantity and appreciate a space that does a few things really, really well, this is your spot.

Did you know that a brick of two hundred year old Chinese Oolong tea can sell for between £20000-£100000? Neither did I until the sages in San Fran showed me the way. Now that I'm indoctrinated I know good tea when I see it and The Teahouse has good stock in abundance. This is the one stop shop for anything tea related. They sell loose tea, bagged tea, tea sets (which include teapots, cups, saucers, etc.) and even tea keychains. You can come in here with a fiver and leave with two great brands of bagged tea, or you can come in with £1000 and buy a quarter of some century old Oolong and a really nice tea time set. Even if you're not really that much of a tea nut just come in here and have a whiff. It smells so good.

The stacked shelves make for very pleasant browsing too. The aroma is faintly spiced inside the shop, and its a strangely relaxing feeling. Like entering a zen garden in an oriental setting. It makes me think that drinking tea in a formal ceremony (in a kimono?! cool) might actually be a lot of fun.

Although the interior of the cafe is small, it does have a few seats if you want to enjoy the drink sitting down, but you might have order it to go.
