This place is beyond the pale...By far the worst DMV/drivers licensing office I have ever had the displeasure of visiting. Wait time is 3 hours in a small room packed with narrow, uncomfortable chairs. No television playing news, no elevator music overhead. Just mind-numbing silence with all of the other cattle. Like others have said, some of the people that work here are very nice. The district manager is very friendly and helpful. The guys working behind the desks were good too. The guy that came in to tell everyone that they'd have to get new numbers, since their system was down, was pretty crappy. Very bossy and sarcastic. He either really hates his job, or he was picked on in school. The inefficiency is almost indescribable, but I'll give it a go. We got there at 7:00 AM this morning. There was already a sign on the (down) kiosk that said there would be a 6-hour wait. I found that hard to believe. I mean, I've sat in the DPS waiting room before, but am normally out in a couple of hours. Nope, these guys were almost spot on. 5 1/2 hours later, we got called and taken care of. Out of 5 windows, there were only 2-3 being worked (mostly 2). The "bossy/sarcastic guy" even laughed when someone joked about the long wait. He said that it didn't bother him at all, but couldn't say the same for everyone having to wait. I was able to use this experience to teach my oldest son about how freaking incompetent and inefficient government-run entities are. They have a monopoly on licensing, can treat people like crap if they choose, and can take their own sweet time. If you've been there all day, and it gets to be their closing time, they're happy to tell you that you can come back the following morning and try again. The only way around this is to pay them to reserve an appointment, which is 3-4 weeks out at the earliest. Let me get this straight.....you have to PAY them, on top of what you already pay them with your tax dollars, to reserve a spot. How about hiring more people? How about reviewing the existing processes (clearly broken)? While these complaints tend to be the norm for most DPS/DMV offices, add in the "Edmond attitude" (everyone outside of Edmond knows what I'm talking about) to this place, and you've got the perfect combination for a miserable day. I've dealt with the DMV in California, New Jersey, and New York, now Oklahoma. And it is the absolute worst . Their information on their website does not match with what they tell you and they say it's their law, so why doesn't it match? HavingHaving the tag agency's give you the wrong information is not helpful either, everyone needs to under one department and run by the state because this is a cluster f $42 is a crazy price for something that isn't even going to be valid in October yay! I know it's normal to rag on the DPS but here's the catch - these guys are REALLY nice! I mean, I almost feel bad for writing this review, but it must be said because something really needs to change here. First the good: The employees are nice. They'll probably hold the door open for you and fetch you a drink if you asked. Maybe a footrub too if you've had a long day. The offices are clean. There's no funny smells, foul stains on the walls, or greasy hand prints all over the place. And the waiting room (Cattle pen) is a large, open area with a big, if too dark, HDTV playing my favorite news station. Thumbs up! Now the bad: VERY inefficient. The Story: Our trip began with a walk to the front of the DPS office where a big stand was erected (heheh, you said erected - heheh!) with one of those red government "Take a number" spools attached. It was 1:30pm though so all the numbers were gone. So we signed up on the waiting list under the spool, which we later found out was called the "Not Guaranteed" list. Great, eh? Then we found a spot in the cattle pen, labeled "DPS Waiting Room" with a piece of paper taped to the wall. Inside was a big TV that was nice, but miscalibrated to be too dark to be enjoyable, but that's a side issue. After 30 minutes of waiting we noticed that the numbers to be called had only changed twice. This was our first clue to a problem. You see, there were at least 25 people in the waiting room. At a rate of one every 15 minutes they'd not finish handling people before 7:30PM! About another 10 minutes later I realized that no one ever stopped in to look at the room and see how many were waiting either, so the employees either didn't know or care how backlogged they were getting. This is bad. Another 10 minutes goes by and a jolly guy with a happy tone pops in and tells us that we need to stand up when the number changes and ask if anyone has that number. Just to make his job easier. Um...wait, isn't that YOUR job? You're paid to come here every day and move these people, some of which have been waiting on your slow butt for HOURS, through the queue. Anything you can do to help the customer is good, but don't have the gall to stand in front of a room with a mix of gangsters and old ladies and expect that they're going to stand up and call out numbers for you. Hire some kid to do that if you want to make your job easier. Anyway, he finished his speech and nothing changed (not surprisingly). The number still ticked by slowly and people either went when their number came up or they didn't. No one stood up and yelled "Hey, does anyone have 799?" I'm sure Jolly was disappointed. We never made it in to handle our business this day because after 3 hours they never got around to us so we left. We did however get in the next day and after the same problems, same speeches, and same stupid 3 hour wait we finally got our DPS business handled and I'll be kicked with a steel toed boot if I ever want to go through that again. next time I'll just go to a small town office and get my stuff handled by people that remember what customer service is all about. My suggested fixes: 1. Place a camera from the "Cattle Pen" to the DPS employees office so employees can look up and see "OMG there's 30 people in there! WTF let's hurry guys!!! "(whip sound, whapish!) 2. Call numbers yourself or allow less time between numbers. Jolly the Employee said they wait 3 minutes or more between calling a number and seeing if someone shows up at the desk. One minute is enough time for the most elderly person to get up and get to the desk. Anything more than that is a waste of everyone's time. 3. Hire a number caller if you won't do it yourself to keep customers moving just like a doctor's office. High school kids would LOVE to get a look at the inner workings of the DPS and they'd have something to put on their resume. You can probably get them to volunteer for this from age 15-17, which is perfect for a first job. 4. Dont depend on people policing themselves. No one will stand up in a room full of "gangstas" and, without any authority, ask if anyone has the number that just flashed up on the board. 5. Most importantly, hire people with a sense of URGENCY to move customers through the queue. Customers aren't happy waiting for hours when NOTHING seems to be moving. You might be doing the most sophisticated heart surgery behind your DPS counter but if people aren't seeing the line moving then they DO NOT CARE. They just get fed up and leave. And yes, that's really no skin off your nose since you're a gov't employee, but do you really feel proud of your DPS office when it's so poorly operated that people feel a need to leave? How would you feel if a waitress didn't deliver your food for 3+ hours? EXACTLY. Conclusion: Make an appt online if you go there. Sorry I've reached my Yelp word limit :( read more

As horrendous as this establishment is, I'll still give it 1 star, not like I have a choice. This place is straight out of a horror story. They're just here to steal money from helpless people who don't know better. They will try to find any way to fail people on their drivers tests. After all, the more drivers tests you fail, the more you have to pay when you finally pass. So, please save yourself the trouble and take your road test at a driving academy such as Merkeley's if you like to be treated with dignity. The first time I took my test here, I failed. Maybe it was somewhat understandable the first time around. The second time I took my test, I passed points wise but failed because of the parallel parking, which is absolutely stupid because we don't even parallel park in Oklahoma. My parallel parking actually wasn't bad on my first test. Crazy part is I didn't even know I was allowed to restart that part if I didn't feel comfortable where I was. I was told that after the test. The examiner clearly wanted to find some way to fail me for the exam. Despite all that, I will give them credit for my learner permit exam I took around a year prior to my first road test. The examiner who administered the exam was very nice which is an anomaly for the Edmond DPS. I haven't seen her in a while though. Maybe she got fired for not being soulless enough. Moral of the story: don't try to get your license at Edmond DPS. Thank you. read more

On Friday December 14, I went to the DMV for a driver's license renewal. I arrived at 4:10, checked in and then waited for 35 minutes. There was only another lady & myself waiting. At 4:45, a guy walked out and said "we're closed. See you Monday." I looked in the processing area & they were standing around talking to each other at 4:40 rather than helping the last two people in the waiting area. Pitiful customer service. I crushed my ticket & threw it on the floor. I drove to the Broadway Tag Agency & walked out with a new license in 15 minutes. read more

So I set up an appointment around the beginning of may for my test drive , (my appoint was in June 29th)and when I arrived they said they had to cancel it because of the rain which is understandable. so the guy moved it 2 days later at 8:00am so when I arrived that day, the guy wasn't even there and they said I had to make another appointment which is a 60 day time period and I already waited plus they told me to come THAT DAY and now i wasted all the time. The phone number on the website does not work. How are you suppose to set up an appointment if you can't even contact them. If you do not set up an appointment there is no guarantee that you will be seen that day even if you show up an hour before they open. Staff is very rude as well. read more

A few tips to save your sanity when dealing with this location. If you can't get there at 6AM, or book an appointment 3 weeks in advance online, then don't bother wasting your time. I was 10th in line and arrived at 7AM. I was not seen until after 2PM. All I could see was people with appointments being called, and maybe 1-2 walk-ins a hour. Oklahoma really needs to outsource license transfers etc. to the tag agencies. read more

This place is awful. The first time I came, I arrived at 8am and had to wait 2 hours just to take a permit exam test. So the second time I came, all I needed to do was take the vision test since I forgot my glasses last time. This time I wanted to be there as soon as they opened so I wouldn't have to wait 2 hours again. I arrived at exactly 7:01 and still had to wait over THREE hours to be seen. There were only 10-15 in the waiting room. The dmv employees didn't even start serving people until 7:45am. They were too busy talking and laughing in the back room! It's just ridiculous! read more

This office is the most disrespectful place. The way they talk to you and try to belittle you. I really hate that my daughters first experience in trying to get her license was this horrible. The communication between the office and the drivers license examiner is the worst. I was so disappointed and so disrespected. read more
