We stayed 3 nights in the Bayview Loft (the only second story room, two queen beds) and had a great stay! I loved that we had our own little patio on the landing overlooking the water - a great spot to sit outside in the morning having coffee. We were greeted warmly when we arrived, super easy check in. The two beds are in the same room, with a door to close off the 'living room' which worked great for different needs of my husband and young adult kid. Nice table to play games on, the fridge was a good size, two tvs (one per room) and easy to walk to a ferry to the island! The attached restaurant had good food, too. I've been staying at the Driftwood Motel for decades. I learned from my wife's dad how much cheaper it is to stay here than it is to stay on the island. I don't know what the prices were when he started coming here, but I was able to book 2 rooms for three nights for cheaper than it costs to stay on the island in one room for one night. Sorry about the flashback to math class, people, but this is an economics lesson where you'll want to pay attention. There is a log cabin kind of feel to the architecture. And, in another throwback to a bygone age, the doors use keys...actual, metal keys, not plastic cards. Outside the room, you'll find gas barbecue grills with tongs and other tools to enjoy your home away from home. While the room itself seems humble, it does contain most of the amenities you would expect. It's spacious. The beds are reasonably comfortable. There is a mini fridge, but unfortunately no microwave. And the restaurant is just a few steps away from your room, and it's excellent. One thing you would not expect, however, is a mind-boggling array of on-demand programming on your flat screen TV. Dozens of shows are available from maybe 30 different networks. And, it's no extra charge for any of it. Even if it weren't for all this, the location itself is perfect. Directly across the street are two Mackinac Island ferry terminals. I'm not exaggerating: they're literally across the street. That $27 you pay for a round-trip ticket is a heck of a lot cheaper than you would pay each day to stay on the island. Economics, people. So, go ahead and get a second mortgage to pay for a stay on the island. I will keep on coming here and enjoying all the great benefits, while also having money left over to actually pay for things to do on the island. read more

Stayed here on our way to and back from the Keweenaw. Rooms were satisfactory, with comfortable beds. Bright and clean. The first one was in the main complex, adjoining the bar/restaurant. The parking lot was a lively place that night, creating a little more noise than we needed after our drive up, and speaking of noise, the bathroom fan was annoyingly loud, and came on when you turned on the light. Our second stay was better. We were placed in the Annex, just behind the main complex and off of the main drag. Much quieter. And the bathroom lights could be run without turning on the fan. Bathrooms were certainly clean, though be sure to turn up the water temperature slowly. It can reach a scalding temperature pretty quickly. Cleaner and in better shape, if a bit more expensive, than most small motels we've stayed at in St. Ignace. read more

I picked this place based on the location, the appearance, and the name. There was only one Yelp review at that time and it was a good one. You check in at the restaurant attached to the motel. I enjoyed my night here. The room was clean, comfortable, free Wi-Fi, refrigerator, coffee in the Room, restaurant and bar attached, plenty of parking and you can park right in front of your room for easy packing. If I needed a place to stay on a return trip I would choose this one. I had breakfast at the attached restaurant and it was very good. If you're hungry and in the mood for a pasty like I was later in the day, try Bessie's pasties down the road. It was great. 1031.11 read more

Room in annex so small of a bathroom you can't turn. No way to dry hair with a mirror. Only had a wall heater that barely worked. For this they charged $180+. We stayed here in past and loved it and it was reasonable. What happened? Never again! read more

This was not the same Driftwood experience I've had twice before. This time we were placed in the annex, which we were not made aware of when I made the reservation. The annex is sort of behind the original building, outdated and in need of modernization. The room was tiny with the back window enclosed in wood with a window shaker ac unit. Luckily we preferred leaving the front window open most of the time for the cool, fresh air. Our tv was not connected properly and it took three employees to get it operational (still not properly). The fitted sheet had a hard time staying on the mattress although the bedding was very clean. There were no electrical plugs in the bathroom or anywhere near the mirror to plug in a hair dryer. The desk plug was overloaded with the tv, cable box, lamp, refrigerator. The coffee maker had the wrong size pod dispenser for the unit for some reason. The previous times we stayed in the original motel unit and enjoyed it. I'm not sure what's happening at this motel; not sure we'll return. read more

Soooo....take your porta potty with you because the plumbing is sub par. Had a late check in and went to use the toilet and instantly it backed up. Called every number on the phone for help and finally went to the motel bar and was given a plunger. No one was available for late night service to help with an emergency. 8:30 am I proceeded to the office/restaurant so I could use the restroom because the toilet is still backing up. The front desk woman is rude, condescending and is blaming us for the issue and blurts out "I'm not giving you a refund". We called the owner of the place and voiced our satisfaction of the accommodations and he said he would get us a refund. This will be updated at a later date as we move on down the road.. worst experience ever but the pasties are good. No amount of food makes up for not having a working bathroom for your accommodations. Please do yourself a huge favor and stay somewhere else. read more

Always a great play to stay at a reasonable price. Check-in is easy and the employees are very welcoming. Room was clean. Simple two bed, bath with bathtub, coffee and fridge in the room. The location is prime. Plenty of parking, even for trailers. The Driftwood Restaurant & Bar is hooked to the motel. Great food with a fun up north atmosphere. The motel is directly across the street from the water. The views are spectacular. read more

For over a decade, The Driftwood has been a favorite stop between our northern Ontario cabin and northern Indiana home. We're always pleased with the comfy beds, clean rooms, and extra-hot showers! The location couldn't be better: in the midst of all the Big Bridge happenings, but off the road far enough for peaceful sleep. The restaurant and bar are convenient, with excellent service and great food. After a few weeks in the Canadian Bush, were always glad to arrive at the Driftwood. read more

We stay here every time we come. Very clean hope ut we alsed for a Queen Sized bed and we personally own one and there is NO WAY that that bed was a queen sized bed. My husband is 6 foot 2 and it was nt that comfortable with us being on a full sized bed 2 nights in a row! We will be back but will definitely make sure it is what we paid for! read more

Wow. After spending $$$ to spend the night it was great to come across this little gem. Room is done up in pine log furniture. Small room large enough for a queen size bed, nightstand, table, two chairs, last but not forgotten an antler lamp. Bathroom comes equipped with shampoo,soaps and makeup remover. Spent the weekend there on a dive trip for the first time. Room was very clean as was the linen. Bed was very comfortable. Friendly staff and a fantastic price. My only nit is it would be nice if the restaurant opened before 8:00, 7:30 or better yet 7:00. read more

First the good things about the motel -Small but clean -WiFi -Breakfast at the restaurant was outstanding -Lots of parking and good location Now the not so good things -Rooms advertised on line for $53 out of season and $74 in season. We called and reserved a room for 2 nights. I received an invoice 2 days before we left and the room was $108 per night. Was told it was a "special weekend" because of ORV's. This was on 9/30 & 10/1. -Shower had good pressure and water got hot fast, but the tub had air bubbles which made standing and taking a shower a little difficult. I could see how an older person could easily lose their balance. -Our room was about 4 rooms from the front office. Even with plenty of parking, cars parked in front of our room to use the restaurant and lounge. When we returned each night, we had to park a ways away from our room. -Homeless person came by every morning with a wagon full of cans and searched through items along the porch in front of the rooms. -Door locks are outdated. -No place to put your suitcase. We had to use the bed and move it each time. read more

So, we left home (5 hours away) and I remember that I forgot all of our cash at home. The owner of Driftwood let us wait for two days to pay for our 4 nights stay. SERVICE was outstanding. The ladies at the front desk were fun, nice and very accommodating. We got the key to our room...it was HUGE. Gorgeous log decor...the bed and table and chairs. MY FAVORITE. The bathroom was enormous. It was clean and smelled great! Sometimes you get a "lived in" odor but not this room. It smelled fresh and airy. The only "problem" with our room is that right outside our window there were two tables with chairs for guests to hang out and chat. Well, they chatted well after midnight. No rooms are totally sound proof so their talking woke us up a couple of the nights. No big deal...they were not loud, just kind of a pain. Next time we stay we will be asking for a specific room It seems a bit more secluded and is right across from the dog run as we travel w/ a small dog. We enjoyed our Wednesday night thru Saturday afternoon stay. We would recommend this motel to any of our friends who want a nice, quiet comfortable room. read more

We were very happy with our stay here. Room was clean, small bedroom, which was expected in this type of old-fashioned row motel. But there was room for the queen bed, side table, little table and chairs and a flat screen tv. Furniture was made of rustic pine, which was cute. There was a massive closet and bathroom at the back of the unit. Bathroom was updated and very clean. Room had a mini-fridge. Room was pretty quiet and couldn't hear the neighbors or their TVs through the bedroom walls. There was an air conditioner in our room. Hotel has a great location. The Mackinac Island Star Line ferry is right across the street. We stopped at the Chamber of Commerce and received a Chamber Money Bag, which included a Buy 1 Get 1 Free coupon for the ferry. We walked right across the street for it, so you can't get much closer than that. Very close to the Ojibwa museum and shop, the Indian Village souvenir store and a short walk to downtown. The motel had a restaurant with bar attached, which was delicious and had updated rustic decor. Staff was friendly. If you are going to the casino, the desk offers a free $10 per person credit and the casino offers free shuttle service, so ask about those We would definitely stay here again if we return to the area. read more

This business will work with out of town construction workers by giving a clean room, super awesome cleaning service each day, and the staff is so friendly and accommodating. When I called to ask for rates, I told the nice lady that answered that I was looking for a simple room with a comfy bed, a tv, and a shower. She said come on down, and I did. I got exactly what I asked for at an excellent weekly rate. There is also a restaurant across the parking lot with a variety of options, a bar, and more friendly people! My fave? Sizzliln' Shrimp with vegies, baked potato, and a simple soup and salad bar. And for dessert? Cheesecake with hot fudge and whip cream. read more

Stopped into the Bar & Grill to grab something to eat on our way through town. We were ignored, while the bartender was socalizing, prior to getting our drink order taken. Took forever for him to take our food order, so went into the dining room, informed the front desk of our situation, and that we would be coming in there for service. They were just about empty and indicated that this wouldn't be a problem. We sat down in the dining room, ignored for 20 minutes, prior to getting up to leave, and not even being looked at by the front desk employee We will never darken their doorstep again and will provide such insight to others. It would have been different and reasonable, if they were busy or considerate. The one word to describe all employees is indifference. read more
