The front desk clerk was very very rude. Rooms are clean. Would suggest try another place unless change staff.

Very dated mattresses need to be updated. For the cost you could stay at the Best Western.

For the price, $54 a night, you can't do better. Very basic but large rooms. Restaurant/Bar is good and convenient. Overall a great place!!!

That $27 you pay for a round-trip ticket is a heck of a lot cheaper than you would pay each day to stay on the island.

Great lobby, great view. BUT when we first entered the room, someone else's hair tie as well as some misc gross garbage was on the floor as soon as we walked it. One of the tv remotes was just missing And worst - the entire bed had SAND IN IT. By the time we realized it, it was too late, so I just slept in my clothes. We asked the next day if they could change the sheets and clean the room. They said yes. We got back and no one had done a thing at all...and we were out of bath towels and toilet paper and had to go ask for those, as well as ask them AGAIN about cleaning and sheets. They apologized and said they would mark it in bold. We had to sleep in the sandy sheets again. Finally we got back the last day and they had come to the room, but......THEY JUST MADE THE BED WITH THE SAME DIRTY SHEETS! For $100 I can understand. For $1500 I'm pretty angry. We never once got clean sheets. I'm not even positive they were changed from the last guest. oh, and there was chocolate pudding smears on the counter, and a huge giant bug in the shower that freaked my son out.

I had the whitefish for dinner with potato puree and garlic green beans. It was very good. I would recommend. We also started with the Yucatan shrimp which was full of flavor. We enjoyed dipping the toasted points into the sauce. Yum! Honestly I didn't go in to my stay here with the highest expectations, but I was very impressed with the service at the hotel and restaurant as well as the cleanliness of our room. Lots of friendly smiling and welcoming staff. The bed was very comfortable and the beach is dynamic. Perfect view of Lake Huron, and very enjoyable day or night. We had the breakfast both mornings of our stay, and I can only give that 2 stars. It was ok. Felt like a typical "breakfast included" kind of deal. The staff was very kind and attentive, and the restaurant was very clean. The food was 2 stars. Just basic. Coffee was great and like I said I was pleasantly surprised with my stay. I will definitely consider staying here again because the views and beach were gorgeous, the clean rooms and friendly staff are so important, and you're a hop, skip and a jump from Shepherd's Ferry to Mackinac Island from the hotel.

I've been here for years I'm the only thing that's declined is the breakfast. The potatoes were great but no longer on the menu. No sausage or other meat at breakfast either. The magnetic door card reader is literally hanging off the wall inoperable... and it's the only way to get in... so anyone else can as well. The other two doors magnetic card readers entry pads also do not work!! The room size is acceptable...but just barely. Very small sink area, absolutely no place for daily toiletries, The dresser has the smallest drawers of any hotel we have ever stayed ( corporate people here, lots of travel). The TV also the smallest literally in years of hotel stays... a Phillips 32 inch... AND... absolutely zero premium channels... you can't even order a movie!?!? Yes... Mackinac Island is a tourist destination with lots to do and see... but the nights after walking all day, biking 8.2 miles, you want to get back to a decent room and watch something without commercial pharmaceuticals ads every five minutes... I called the chamber of commerce specifically to check which hotels accept a well trained dog companion... was told... " oh we here at the chamber always recommend St Ignace to our own family members. So... this is the ONLY reason for the "1" rating.... It's the ONLY positive. I will NEVER come back. I will never recommend this run down, old, dated, categorically inadequate hotel... even the manager is clueless on how to run it, says he's new management... Obviously there is a hotel service conglomerate or something that pushes the undesirables to the newbies to Mackinac Island like us... no doubt that the women at the chamber absolutely ruined our first trip with this false recommendation. "In and around the lake Mountains come out of the sky and…read morethey stand there" (Yes) What a pleasant surprise! The Holiday Inn Express at St. Ignace sure didn't feel like a Holiday Inn Express. First of all, it has a beach, a big grassy communal courtyard, and chairs where you can sit at the waterline and listen to the seagulls that chitter and chatter like crazy. The beach scenery is gorgeous, and the views of the bay and Mackinac Island are gorgeous. The beds are comfy, the HVC and Wi-Fi work great, and the shower may have been the best hotel shower I ever had. Super pressure and plenty of hot water. Oh, and we had a balcony with a great view of the beach and the courtyard. But the biggest surprise was the amazing breakfast variety and the stellar breakfast service by Sheila and Melissa. They ran around at full speed, cleaning, wiping, refilling and straightening non-stop. As for the breakfast foods, there was a bounty of egg white omelets, scrambled eggs, turkey and pork sausage links, biscuits and gravy, a pancake machine, Cereals, Yogurt, gooey Cinnamon buns, Oatmeal, breads, muffins, bagels, apples, oranges, bananas, and more. Our two-night stay cost us $540.50 after taxes. We could not have been happier with our stay here. Five stars all the way.

We stayed in room 119 - should definitely be a king room vs 2 double beds. Barely had enough room to sneeze and the noise from guests above sounded like romper room with a heard of kangaroos all evening & night. The shower area had peeling paint & needs fresh caulk. Spotted a long black hair in toilet area stuck to wall, door, & hinge. The curtain over the AC needs to be shorter to not interfere with air flow & had black mold on the inner sheer one - double yuck After a long day of traveling we didn't appreciate hearing vacuuming outside our door at 730pm & than again at 930pm. Only hubs had breakfast & coffee - which he said was good & hot!! They did welcome our pet & had a great area for walking & bathroom breaks for him. We thought the Mackinac City property was the worst IHG property we've stayed at - this one is slowly catching up to it, sadly! The newly renovated lobby floor looks spectacular-as does the fire pit & patio!! That was being remodeled last time we stayed here!
