This is based on two visits, all ending in a pleasant experience. First, I like to visit shortly after mid-day, not soon after it opens on weekdays. First thing is the location - with a view of the beach/ocean, and the breeze that comes from it - is great. The owner, the hosting and waiting staff are very attentive. On this last visit, we focused on trying many appetizers and they did not disappoint. Their drinks quenched a thirst. The only less than positive aspect of the last visit is that the restaurant next door was having some type of event with MCs and DJs and their noise invaded Drift to drown the awesome experience. Drift is located 30 minutes from SJU airport. The restaurant is right by the beach so you can enjoy the view with a meal. Food: We ordered truffle fries, tacos, ceviche, and empanadas. Espectacular. We had been in PR for several days already and stumbling upon Drift was a very pivotal moment for all of us. Until this point we weren't totally sold on the island. Located on Aviones Beach in Loíza, we were finally away from clusters of resorts and all the chaos that comes with it. At Drift and it's surrounding beach property it is absolutely stunning and clean. The first thing that caught our eye was the surf shop in the parking lot, it stands out as it is beaming white, nothing like it around. Directly next to it a gorgeous open air two story building that appeared to be a restaurant. We parked in their private lot as the owner and co-owner happened to be walking out, they were incredibly friendly and eager to chat. They offer so much at Drift. They are a restaurant (called Hook'd), they host guided tours, there is that surf shop (Surf'd) I mentioned and they also offer yoga and surf classes on weekends!! We were amazed at everything that goes on here and just know there are plans in place for sleeping accommodations at some point in the near future. I feel so long winded in this but again it has been the highlight of the trip thus far so it feels justified. Bear with me here. Eight of us spent some time at the surprisingly vacant beach (hanging out in warm water, fun waves, and the softest sand yet) before eventually making our way up to the restaurant. We had the privilege of being waited on by Julio and staff who were on point with everything. Julio had excellent recommendations like the Coconut water drinks where they harvest a coconut from outside and add a little booze to it (if that's your thing ...and it was definitely ours, we added whiskey). If you like poke I INSIST you try the Salmon Poke which is served on a bed of avocado with a side of house-made potato chips. The fish tacos are simple yet yummy, three small flour tortillas with a breaded strip of white fish and a ramekin of tarter sauce on the side. The whole fish was very "Filipino-style" so lucky for us. It's legit a whole fish so just know that. Also rave reviews. Calamari dish was different than your standard deep fried Calamari appetizer, it was with a roast sweet pepper salad. Also good. Big Burger was delicious as were the sliders for the kids. The mocktail was a hit (ordered two) as were the fueled drinks (Namaste). I could go on and on and on but for the sake of your eyes, I won't. Follow your heart to Drift. We will be back on this trip. read more

Beautiful view, friendly staff. My husband and I ordered a mixed ceviche with fried pana and an order of the shrimp ceviche tostones. Presentation was beautiful, but unfortunately lacked in flavor. What a fantastic place with a view. I was happy to have found this place. We went during late afternoon, this place looks like it gets busy at night. Location has their own parking. Staff was attentive. I had the stuffed avocado with octopus which was delicious. My wife had a hefty burger. The piña colada and sangria were refreshing. Perfection. 20 minute drive from Condado on the coast. An amazing hideaway in Loíza, with Gorgeous outdoor waterfront patio dining. And bar attached is called Hook'd. Friendly service staff. Delicious and beautiful food. Simple Modern decor. Listen to the waves crash in the sun or shade while enjoying tapas and a cocktail. We enjoyed a lovely lunch and then went down the the sand and rented a beach lounge and umbrella on-site beneath their deck. We stayed all day. I really don't know how I missed this spot before in Piñones. I mean they have truffle fries!!!! Sick right? It was awesome! They also had an amazing view to the ocean with louche chairs on the grass. ....and let's not forget one of the most famous brunch drink aside from mimosas.... (drumroll please....) BLODDY MARYS!!!! They had them! Insane right? Like it's a locals spot that has t been ventured by too many tourists yet, but lo and behold, the famous brunch drink was present and accounted for. This puts certain Condado restaurants to shame who promote their brunch extravaganza wildly (shame, shame). This sit down restaurant made me not want to leave at all. It was laidback but nice at the same time. Nicer than what you'd expect from a Piñones mom and pop restaurant of course. This was more upscale than that but still laidback. We just had our end of year High School reunion yesterday at this restaurant. Everything was perfect and everyone enjoyed the evening so much. I really wanted to love this place. The location on the beach and away from the busyness of San Juan really was so relaxing and enjoyable. The waitress wasn't super friendly or overly attentive but I guess not everyone can be. I ordered the fish tacos and it came out on a hard shell like you would buy in the grocery store. Flavor on the inside was OK. My husband ordered the steak and it was nearly inedible. So chewy and overcooked. My parents both got the burger and enjoyed it. We got there about an hour before closing so I think they were rushing. I'm hoping that was the issue and would try again. read more

Best new restaurant on the beach. The location is right on the water, perfect for sunsets on the sand. The restaurant is sparkling and new. The menu has been designed with impeccable care by a top ten PR chef. Favorites include the coconut shrimp, salmon poke, duck piojo, and cod croquettes. The 4 hour braised beef ribs, the black seafood paella and the crispy whole fish are also amazing. The mixologists are innovative and very attentive ... try the spirit'd coconut or ask for a spicy margarita. We love this place, and plan to be regulars! read more

Drift is a definite must-see/must-experience for any travelers. If you are looking to see authentic Puerto Rico, Piñones is an amazing hidden gem, and Drift is the cherry on top. There is a special inexplicable soulfulness and serenity to the ambiance. You couldn't ask for a more breathtaking location and view, and the site's meticulous attention to detail and impeccable service does not go unnoticed. Beautiful views and fun vide. Food...VERY DISAPPOINTING!!! Mayo is not something that should be slathered on fish tacos and "salmon" poke! We ordered the house spicy margarita and it was legit jalapeño water...I truly believe it was void of tequila, lime or an ounce of flavor. We decided to order our own version of a margarita and again it was sugar water. We waited over 90 minutes for our food. The only regret is that we found this on our last day!!! We had been working in Loiza for a week and would see this place from the road near some beachside kiosks and for some reason we thought they were not open yet as we saw construction vehicles outside. Finally, on Friday we decided to drive in to check it out. We were a large group of about 12 - and we had been doing construction type of work so we looked rather grungy. It is by far the nicest place in the area and would love to come back to just enjoy the beach club. The view is spectacular. They have lounge chairs, corn hole games, dominos and a bar (also a surf shop). I believe they are doing some renovations to make perhaps an Air BnB (which is why we thought the place was closed). The restaurant is open-air with a nice light airy feel. The food was exceptional!!!! We had truffle fries, prosciutto croquettes (amazing), shrimp, kale salads, chicken. Everything was exceptional!!! The only issue was we only got to go once! For sure will return!!! I would like to return and hang on the beach - so lovely and away from the touristy areas. read more
