Surprising Little Gem
I may be a self-proclaimed coffee snob, but I have good reason. I'm spoiled by my husband's perfectly blended roast, brewed with exact measurements and finished with raw honey and real cream. So when I travel, I'm often disappointed by the coffee I find.
I was driving from Florida to West Texas and desperately wanted something other than truck-stop coffee or Starbucks. I searched for a small, locally owned coffee shop and am SO grateful I found this little gem in Waskom, Texas.
From the moment I walked in, I loved it.
The building is adorable, cozy, welcoming, and CLEAN. And before I even made it to the counter, I was greeted by what may be the fluffiest cat I have ever seen, peacefully napping near the front door.
Then came the hard part: ordering.
There were SO many delicious choices! Every flavor I could imagine, different milk options, toppings, and all kinds of combinations. I'm pretty sure I took approximately 13 1/2 minutes to decide because I had to read and reread everything.
And the two ladies working there? Absolutely delightful.
They patiently answered all my questions, never once made me feel like I was holding them up, and happily told me about the local friends and makers whose goodies were displayed throughout the shop. They were warm, friendly, and genuinely happy to be there.
They treated me like we'd been friends for years.
Sticker shock is a real phenomenon but I've never been shocked that something was so much cheaper than I expected. No big citified froo froo coffee prices here.
And then I took my first sip.
OH. MY. GOODNESS.
This coffee snob was IMPRESSED.
So impressed, in fact, that I bought another cup.
I also loved browsing all the locally made gifts, jellies, jams, and other goodies. It felt like one of those special little places you hope you'll stumble across when you're traveling through a small town.
Conveniently located right off the highway, but somehow it feels like a little oasis from the road.
If you are anywhere near Waskom, Texas, stop here. Don't just drive past the little towns on your road trip. Sometimes the best finds are tucked away in places you never expected.
As for me...
I now want to drive 8 hours every day just to get a cup of coffee.
Thank you for reminding this very particular coffee snob that there are still little treasures like this out there.
10/10. I would happily make the detour again.
Small town. Local people. Great coffee. And a fluffy cat.
