The pool rocks and you can watch football games on the mounted flat screen unless the annoying lady who can't swim laps without silence is there. The workout machines are all new and clean with TVs. They seem to have tons of personal trainers on staff and everyone is nice. Also if you have kids they have a place put them while you work out!

After being a member for over two years, I started to notice certain things were just not right. The sauna and steam rooms were always broken, as was the hottub at Mormon Trek. Basic equipment such as barbell safety clips and attachments for the universal machine were either broken or completely missing. The Mormon Trek location had THREE barbell safety clips for the entire facility. The locker rooms were neglected and smelled, and the 1st Ave location has a serious gnat problem in the showers. The staff could be very friendly, but never took responsibility to ensure that equipment was used properly. If I've said it once, I've said it one hundred times: The squat rack, of which there is ONE, is not for doing curls or deadlifts. People need the squat rack to do... wait for it... SQUATS (granted there a couple other acceptable exercises but hopefully you get my point). After repeated asking them to address this rather obnoxious issue, nothing was ever done. Not much for customer service. To top it all off, with no advanced notification, they discreetly announced through an innocuously titled email, which ended up in many members junkmail, they were going to charge everyone a $100 "gym enhancement fee" to purchase new equipment. No signs were ever posted at any location. No effort was made to respond to members upset by this fee. Only two weeks time was allotted for members to adjust their budgets to cover this random and surprise fee. I don't know about you but I'm not a fan of a business that I agreed to pay a certain amount every month stealing $100 out of my pocket. This is also weird because they had raised everyone's rates several months earlier for this same purpose, yet we saw no new equipment. How, if they can't even maintain basics like universal attachments or safety clips, are we supposed to trust that our money would go to equipment rather than the incredibly shady owner's pocket? Do not sign up with this overpriced joke of a facility.

I have done CrossFit for over two years and before that worked out at one of the bigger gyms in North liberty, regularly attending their group fitness classes. I say that to level set my experience. I guess I was expecting more of the pseudo high intensity classes that are offered at the bigger gym. You know what I am talking about. The type of class where more attention is paid to the activewear that someone is wearing as opposed to the actual workout intensity that they are putting forth. Let me tell you. The work out at versa was intense! I can honestly say that it was one of the more high intensity workouts that I have done in a long time. While it did not focus on the weightlifting aspect that I was used to from CrossFit, I found the cardio portion just as intense. Before the work out began I felt there was an adequate amount of time dedicated to stretching and warming up. While the workout was going the instructors were supportive and helpful in their coaching. While I am not a member I would not hesitate to recommend this location to anyone looking for a high-intensity workout.

I had run on (almost) the daily on my treadmill. But man... something was missing. Enter Versa Fitness. Let me rewind a minute. Yelp had an event with them a couple months ago and I have NEVER been so sore after a workout. But I had also never felt so ACCOMPLISHED. I am a sucker for a runners high -- stress melting away with elation and a decreased ability to feel pain due to the endorphins released after countless miles. But, with Versa. I'll take all the pain for the gain. (Cause trust me... there will be some pain.) After the Yelp event, I wanted to join right then and there. No joke. But with a little still at home and constantly being a mom taxi... plus the gym being ALLLLLL the way across town from me... it's just not in the cards. Yet. Anyways. Imagine my excitement when I saw Versa was offering twice a day classes online during this hot mess? AND that they were free?! Nick, Josh and Ashley are amazing to workout with. So much passion and knowledge. (And did I mention heart? The gym literally loaned almost all of their equipment out to members when this COVID-19 businesses shut them down.) Last night I enjoyed a wonderful kettlebell class with Ashley. We did three sets of four exercises -- four times. What an amazing way to destress as you quarantine! They even have body weight only options for exercises... so no equipment necessary. Thanks, Versa Fitness!
