I have done CrossFit for over two years and before that worked out at one of the bigger gyms in North liberty, regularly attending their group fitness classes. I say that to level set my experience. I guess I was expecting more of the pseudo high intensity classes that are offered at the bigger gym. You know what I am talking about. The type of class where more attention is paid to the activewear that someone is wearing as opposed to the actual workout intensity that they are putting forth. Let me tell you. The work out at versa was intense! I can honestly say that it was one of the more high intensity workouts that I have done in a long time. While it did not focus on the weightlifting aspect that I was used to from CrossFit, I found the cardio portion just as intense. Before the work out began I felt there was an adequate amount of time dedicated to stretching and warming up. While the workout was going the instructors were supportive and helpful in their coaching. While I am not a member I would not hesitate to recommend this location to anyone looking for a high-intensity workout.

I had run on (almost) the daily on my treadmill. But man... something was missing. Enter Versa Fitness. Let me rewind a minute. Yelp had an event with them a couple months ago and I have NEVER been so sore after a workout. But I had also never felt so ACCOMPLISHED. I am a sucker for a runners high -- stress melting away with elation and a decreased ability to feel pain due to the endorphins released after countless miles. But, with Versa. I'll take all the pain for the gain. (Cause trust me... there will be some pain.) After the Yelp event, I wanted to join right then and there. No joke. But with a little still at home and constantly being a mom taxi... plus the gym being ALLLLLL the way across town from me... it's just not in the cards. Yet. Anyways. Imagine my excitement when I saw Versa was offering twice a day classes online during this hot mess? AND that they were free?! Nick, Josh and Ashley are amazing to workout with. So much passion and knowledge. (And did I mention heart? The gym literally loaned almost all of their equipment out to members when this COVID-19 businesses shut them down.) Last night I enjoyed a wonderful kettlebell class with Ashley. We did three sets of four exercises -- four times. What an amazing way to destress as you quarantine! They even have body weight only options for exercises... so no equipment necessary. Thanks, Versa Fitness!

The road way and parking lot are well taken care of but I do wish the was more landscaping done outside. I like seeing wildness after I am done working out not hotels and highways. I mean, what if they don't?! (We've all seen that meme of our summer body post coronavirus. Ya know, the one of a circle?! Ugh.) Well. I personally have tried to keep my fitness routine up as a way of de-stressing. Because trust me... global pandemics make me anxious. Crashing economies make me fearful. Homeschooling my kiddos makes me nervous. (And on a lesser note... the fact that pool days and summer are indeed approaching makes me both uneasy and thrilled.) Luckily, so many local businesses are offering virtual classes. Hothouse Yoga has two classes a day on Zoom. Heck yes! This review is strictly on their online services during the pandemic. On day nineteen of my distancing I partook during the lunch hour. I adored the sense of community. Even though I could really only see my instructor, Sarah, just knowing others were doing what I was doing was oddly exhilarating. What a fabulous vinyasa class-- I could feel my stress leave my body. Hothouse Yoga... in a normal, non-distancing time... is in a super convenient location right downtown. A parking ramp lives across the street. (First hour free.) The folks that work here are very passionate and knowledgeable. Pricing is... standard? ($100 a month unlimited classes for non-students, $70 for students.) Thank you, Hothouse Yoga. You got me to feel like everything was semi-normal today. I can't wait to vinyasa with you again soon.

The yoga class was great and the star of the show was the instructor Hanna. I was in the beginner class and the pace of the class was good enough that I could keep up. The lighting and music was perfect for some yoga although the music kept getting interrupted ever so often. Both Hanna and the person assisting her went around the class correcting everyone's postures. She was funny and very encouraging which is always a plus. The cherry on top was the quick neck massage at the very end, which I did not expect! Gotta love those surprises.

Hours for lap swim posted on their website are usually not correct as pool is not open when hours posted say it is. Was told by front desk people their website is not accurate and I should only use their new 'app' to check hours. So I loaded app and have used that to check pool lap swim hours. Tried to swim on weekday last week. Checked app 2 hours prior and said lap swim open 1:00-5:00 pm. Arrived at 2:10, changed and got to pool deck at 2:15 only to be told "We are closing for 30 minutes from 2:30 to 3:00 today." Today, a Sunday, at 9:00 a.m. app says pool open for lap swim from 10:00-1:00 pm. Arrived at 11:00 only to find out pool is closed due to swim team practice. they are "very sorry" for my inconvenience. This has happened 4 or 5 times in past month. Frustrating to plan my day/week, drive to the YMCA, and show up only to find out pool is not available. Seems like this is happening more and more often in past 5-6 weeks. If only we could know when pool will be available for lap swim. Seems like this should not be that hard to do. Put someone in charge of schedule and posting updates. And, once hours posted, stick to that schedule.

I didn't feel like I was being called out when I was being corrected. I didn't feel like the movements were too difficult for my skill level (which is more of a beginner, closer to intermediate I'd say), and there were a variety of options for all skill levels so that you didn't feel left out. This class wasn't incredibly serious, but it was more laidback and fun. That is also something I really enjoy because I feel less stressed/anxious.
