Our son has been attending Corvid Academy since 4th Grade. He came from another private school in…read moreKapolei which he attended from Pre-K. He was immediately tested for his grade level in all subjects. His test scores in Math showed that he was below the National average for his age and grade level. This is something that we already new, since his Math skills were very poor. The first year at Corvid was a struggle because he needed to catch up to his grade level and stay current with all other subjects. He finished the year not only testing at his grade level for Math, but excelling and surpassing his grade level in other subjects. Our son is now a High School Junior at Corvid Academy. He is on his way to graduating next year! Not only has he been able to excel in his studies, he also has the opportunity to gain public speaking, power point presentations and teaching skills. The highlight of his experience at Corvid Academy has been his participation in the amazing yearly Theater Productions. Through the direction of Ms. Shannon Sofa, Corvid Academy has put on spectacular full production musical plays such as "West Side Story". Our son has played major roles in "Grease" and "Disney". They students are now working on the biggest production yet...."Newsies"! I would have never thought that our son would act, sing and dance,be on a big stage, and learn backstage production! Performing has become his passion! We are very happy with Corvid Academy. We are grateful to Mr. and Mrs. Sofa for creating this amazing school. They and their staff, truly care about all of their students!

I'm a personal alumni of Corvid Academy, and all I can really say is that I honestly miss the…read moreschool. This school has impacted me on not only my school life but personal life. Being placed in that school was probably the best thing that my parents could have done for me. I'm not gonna lie and say that going to that school was a perfect experience, because it wasn't. When I first started, I was supposed to be placed in 5th grade, but due to low testing scores was placed a year back. I had a terrible problem with math first coming Corvid. I was a 4th grader who couldn't do simple subtraction, but through numerous one-on-one time with Mr. Johnathan (a teacher at the time) and Mrs. Sofa, I eventually got the hang of it. They took my strength, reading comprehension, and wrote out instructions on how to do it for me to read it and I got it! They then began to do this for each of my math difficulties. I stayed there for the rest of my grades and slowly but surely got caught back up. It was not easy, there were times when I fell behind and thought that I should just give up, but I can guarantee tell you that the teachers do NOT give up on you. No matter how difficult you may be. There were times where I wasn't a good student and I did some things, but they never turned their back on me. Mrs. Sofa cares so much about her students and she wants to see each and every one succeed, even hard-headed students like myself. I believe that I was a junior in High school when Mrs. Sofa and I had a personal talk about what I should do after High School. She suggested that since I wasn't as strong in Math, that I should become an English teacher. She was always telling me how good I was with my English skills and comprehension, so I really took that to heart. She was not the only one who really made an impact on me. Mrs. Shannon also did. She's like a big sister (or even a mom) to me. She's always be there for me to talk to when I felt like I couldn't talk to anyone. She was always there to make sure that I was on track to graduating and when I fell behind she made sure to get me caught up. She made countless schedules and made sure I kept up with them and helped me with the hard lessons. She's also the very one who brought musical theater into my life. She really believed in me and cast me as "Anita" in the production of "West Side Story", "Rizzo" in "Grease", and even the lead of Peter Pan in "Disney Enchanted Dreams." She worked constantly with me on each role. From rolling my r's to becoming more young-boy-like, she was there constantly helping me to perfect my singing and acting. Then there was also Ms. Mary, she's the High School TA, I have to give her props. She's always their making sure we know what we have to be on, and she's always updating our weekly lists so that we don't get behind. Even if we do get behind, she's always there to help make a list to get us back on track. She's aIso an amazing confidant to talk to. I've had a lot of talks and vents with her, and she gives amazing advice that I always take to heart. I will forever be grateful for everything that Corvid has done for me and I will never forget the memories that I made here. I'm currently at Leeward Community College and getting my associates in Secondary Teaching. I hope to transfer to a 4-year-college after my 2 years. I sometimes come by to help out with the kids to get volunteer hours for a college class, and I hope to do more in the future. I like to think of it as giving back to the school for all those years. I don't think I could ever really leave the school, the teachers and faculty have really become like family to me. I credit where I am today to Corvid Academy.

The school so far has met our expectations. There aren't many reviews because, it seems from our…read moreexperience, many of the families are too busy balancing work and family life. A couple of these negative reviews come from people who haven't experienced actually attending the school during the traditional school year. I think the lack of reviews is more a reflection of the priorities that the parents at IPA have. For example, I couldn't be bothered to write a review because it's just not as important as spending time with my family and/or work. However, I felt compelled to write one today because of the position that the Covid 19 pandemic has put the nations' families in. So far our elementary age kids have had a positive experience with the distance learning model which the school administrators and teachers spent months preparing. Preparation is evident in the materials provided and with how well organized their classes have been. They've participated in around four to six hours of daily online direct instruction, and the teachers have kept them interested and engaged. A bonus for us is that they actually think they are IN school!

This is geniunely the worst possible school you could send your kids to (especially if they are a…read morepoc/non hawaiian or white). The amount of racial trauma I had endured at this establishment was insane. They unfairly single out students of color, would try to get them in trouble for things other students would do, scream and curse at them, share your personal information to staff in front of the students, and then act like nothing happened. A lady (who was not even a teacher & would wear color contacts) would try to recruit other staff to slutshame me, would only try to get me in trouble even if other students would wear the same thing, and even made comments about what i was wearing when i wasnt even at school. This school is very biased towards certain students, at one point a student was able to complete all their classes virtually while everyone else had to go in person because their parents gave them extra money, but god forbid your midriff accidentally shows. When racism and unfairness were brought to the schools attention they did nothing. Instead they screamed at me until I cried and the lady defended it by saying she has friends who are of color so she cant be racist. At one point at the school a teacher would constantly talk about x related things and drugs but was later removed. Another teacher ended up dating one of their students shortly after they graduated but the school invited them back as a dj for a school event.... Ive been holding this in for awhile but this school was one of the worst decisions I ever made. Please just go somewhere else and I hope they replace the staff or atleast get a cafeteria or gym.

Upon arrival we were greeted by the Mālama staff with students assisting in every which way with meet and greets which I thought was simply adorable! We were a general admission and were instructed all foods are grab and go, in the back is an area for silent auction and not to miss the country store. In the cafeteria are vip guests that have reserved seating with the students bringing the food items on serving trays while being entertained is groovy. Me and my bestie was just blown away with the foods prepared by both sponsors and local area High Schools. * Roy's Ko Olina - Kahumana Organic Green & Shaved Vegetable Salad * Kalapawai Café and Deli - Poke Nacho * Support Source Hawai'i - Guava Brisket Slider with Pot & Mac Salad * Taqueria La Marea - Shredded Pork Carnitas & Shredded Chicken Tacos * Waipahu High (Culinary Arts Pathway) Katsu Fried Green Tomatoes * Moanalua High (Meneculinary) Local Thai Pork Stir Fry * Kapolei High (Culinary Program) Chamorro Style Kaua'i Shrimp Patties * Wai'anae High (Searider Culinary) Crème Brûlèe infused w/Ewa Sweet Corn * Wai'anae High (Searider Culinary) Hāmākua Mushroom Risotto w/chicken I am allergic to shrimp so I'm unable to taste that one BUT my bestie is the ultimate seafood lover and was blown by Kapolei High's Chamorro Style Kauai Shrimp Patties with Ewa Sweet Corn and Togorashi Aioli...whew!! She loved it so much she went back to find out what's in it and the recipe which the sweetest student was delighted to do so. I then entered the silent auction and did bit on a couple items (didn't get it) then to the country store tent filled with plants, handmade crafts and even soaps made by Mālama volunteers and so much more! We couldn't resist a plant, several soaps, a surfboard rug and why not it's all for a great cause! It's so inspiring how they bring awareness to students to look outside the box and explore other possibilities as we met students with so much passion and was so excited with their direction...yes!! It's sure been decades since I've graduated from high school and my how I'm just amazed how things have changed for our bright future to dream and do. Thank you!

From the beginning of the school year, they should of implement a strategy poll or survey to get a real estimate of interested families that would let their kids go on the trip. The paperwork given on December 9th 2024 shows in the right corner July 2024. I don't understand why something wasn't put together early for parents to have information on it Ex: estimated price it will cost, days traveling and a poll seeing who's interested and who's not for bettering planning. You don't give a Paper December 9th 2024 and the Paper saying First Deposit due December 9th 2024 and when I call to ask why so inconsiderate the excuses are, I had a hard time getting it approved. How is that? When this is a yearly thing. Y'all should of been prepared and well knowledgeable in this department for signing up successfully or is it thrown to random people to sign up and when paperwork is wrong after multiple attempts you only then realized it's giving a shorter time for parents to be notified. Y'all failed to give Information about this trip or estimated prices of cost or how many days of travel. All that was given last minute with a hurry up and pay today or the next day and you wonder why only 30 kids can go because y'all didn't properly prepare this field trip. It's unacceptable and I wonder how many years y'all been unprepared doing this and waiting last minute to give information when y'all should of alerted parents immediately about the field trip in August when school started and gave monthly updates for progress moving forward. It would of given more kids a opportunity and parents the chance for letting them go especially when you plan better and plan ahead. The school should have someone that works there that does the paper yearly so they know how it should be prepared correctly, so that it can get approved immediately and not after several attempts and make it a smooth transition for everyone getting information early.

We were attracted to this school for these reasons: *100% of the high school graduates received scholarships to colleges. Mostly for academics and swim. *Smaller classroom sizes - to give each child the attention they may need *Longer school hours - we're both working parents and don't need to deal with the stress of after school care * No homework- this is what the longer school days are for and because quality family time is so important after a long day at school/work *Performing arts - starts from kindergarten to work on their confidence, self esteem and public speaking skills *Dedicated and passionate teachers and staff- positive teachers makes for positive early imprinting *Amazing swim program and it just goes on and on! All three of our children are thriving academically and socially. They are all very active on the competitive swim team, hula, ballet, martial arts and voice lessons, all offered at school! I grew up attending a school with about 25-30 students in a classroom so I know what it's like, and I didn't like it. The smaller class sizes is the perfect fit for what we're looking for. A more customizable education tailored for each child's potential. Seeing how much talent has been produced from this small school makes me hold ARA up on a pedestal. We want to give our kids the best opportunity and ARA offers all we can ask for. If you are considering this school for your child, I recommend giving them a call. We're so happy we did!

I want to start off with how happy we are that our son attends HTA. It was a great choice and big win. We have older children who go to multiple schools and HTA by far has won us over. The atmosphere and the attention that our son received in school is by far the greatest. The one on one with the student and teacher ratio works out great our kindergartener has excelled in so many ways. He's about to move on to first grade and he already can read books and tell time not only digital time but the wall clock which I remember only learning in the 3rd grade back in the day. He is also able to identify the currency (worth of each coin and what each coin is called) We do noticed a BIG difference in our son's confidence level and not being afraid to speak up and present his animal research to his fellow classmates. The teachers and staff are all so supportive and they are always so kind. They know every child just about by name which is great because they can identify each child's presence which is valuable and also for safety reasons. They also address any concerns or issues right away with the child and parents/ guardians. HTA has great staff who is able to provide support to the children and parents/ guardians. We are thankful that we are able to join our son on his class Field Studies. It is a true blessing to be able to have this experience to be able to understand what our child is learning on a daily basis. They have weekly agendas which keeps us organized and on schedule. We hope you enjoyed our first year experience review with HTA. Having a kind and supportive team makes a GREAT difference! So be nice to the staff members they deserve the Best!!

Last year it was at Pearl Harbor and because of their restrictions with bags & whatnot, a lot of families were having hard time getting in. Especially if you had a baby. That's ANOTHER long story of mines. But back to UH WEST... they had a really good set up right in their open courtyard area. It was in the middle of the building and so it made the workshops & booths coincide with each other. There was a lot of activities for keiki and parents. They offered a list of things to register for, as well as, have booths with additional educational activities. I hope they host again next year. Our family had Konane workshop. (Hawaiian Checkers) and made home made stylus and voted for Hawaiian Electrics polls. There were other activities and I wish we had chance to do it all but maybe next year. So THANK YOU UH WEST OAHU FOR HOSTING SUCH A FUN EVENT FOR THE FAMILIES. We really enjoyed it! Thank you Onizuka Day for making such event happen. Thank you all for reading & MALAMA PONO...

I was here because of an impromptu trip to the west side of the island. It was the last day of my staycation in November 2021 and my friend needed to attend class on campus. After lunch and ice cream at the Ewa Pointe shopping center, we arrived here at the University of Hawaii - West Oahu campus around 1:45pm for a 2pm lecture. It was a nice day out, but the campus itself was very eerie and quiet. While I am not currently a student here, it would be neat to come here, but the travel time would be crazy from Kaimuki. With that said, I was on campus for about 3 1/2 hours hanging out and waiting for my friend. I gave myself a little tour of the campus, which was surprisingly small enough to get anywhere within 5-10 minutes on foot. The campus itself was clean and quite immaculate actually. Just quiet with only a few students walking around to get to where they needed to go. For the most part though, being on the campus of the University of Hawaii - West Oahu reminded me of campus life 20 some years ago while I was going thru college life at the University of Hawaii - Manoa. Brings back memories of an era long gone by. The overall experience here at the University of Hawaii - West Oahu campus was very nice and serene. Very clean too. I enjoyed myself, even though I was by myself for an extended period of time. It feels like it's practically brand new, but I know it's been a few years since the campus was officially built. The University of Hawaii - West Oahu functions like a community college in a sense while providing degree programs to those who need them. They offer a limited areas of knowledge groups, but cover the all the in demand subject areas are there as well as interesting subject areas like creative media and travel & hospitality management, among others. Spending 3 1/2 hours here was nice and therapeutic. Not so much for my spirit, but to recapture my youth. The campus consists of an admin building, a maintenance building, and the rest are classrooms and lecture halls. It's quite tiny actually. Well groomed and spacious to conduct classes outside, if you wanted to. Applying for admission into UH-West Oahu is easy. Just visit their website and take a look as to how to get in and let your college career soar. I'm sure it's money well spent. If you want to further your education but don't want to venture to town and Manoa, consider coming here for your academic collegiate needs. Tuition wise, it's higher than when I went to school, but it's worth the price of admission. The University of Hawaii - West Oahu is located at 91-1001 Farrington Hwy in Kapolei on the island of Oahu. The small campus is accessible by car and public transportation, if you choose to. There's a generous portion of parking space here. I believe bus route 40 passes by here and it stops right in front of the campus. It was neat to have the buildings named after the alphabet. Remind me of high school too. I enjoyed my time here and hope you will too. It's definitely a nice campus. It just seems like it's in the middle of nowhere, not attached to anything. It's a cool place to be. Whether you are striving for academic excellence or just striving to get that college degree, the University of Hawaii - West Oahu has got you covered. 5.0 stars for the overall experience. Support local! A+
