The tour of Dread River Distillery was very informative and fun! Grayson was very knowledgeable and shared information of the whole process. The tasting of spirits after the tour was also great. We stayed for dinner afterwards and the food was delicious. There is a nice variety of memorabilia I will return to purchase as gifts! A great addition to Birmingham! read more

I went on what appeared to be a slow night. After waiting for about 10 minutes with no one even saying hello to me, I went to the bar to order a drink. I was politely told to go back to my seat and my waitress would take my order. Another 10 minutes or so later a waitress came and took my order. Another 15 minutes went by before I left. I will try again at some point, but it isn't high on my priority list. read more

First time here & it is really nice! I started with the odyssey and hubby got the 7089! My only complaint is that it's too nice to be a sports bar. Maybe it's not like this all the time, but it's loud with many TVs and games going on. Definitely not the vibe I was expecting. For our second round of drinks I tried the white walker and didn't like it at all. It was way too strong, pretty much only tasted vodka. Hubby's second drink was the walker county and he liked it but also said it was too strong. read more

Great place for a night out with friends, or a cute date night! So many friends have been telling me about this place that I had to try it out, the decor furniture and overall ambience just set the mood for a good night. This was the first time I was able to try their food selections and the fries were delicious! I took the bartenders recommendation on each of my drinks and I was never disappointed, can't wait to come back! read more

Dread River is off to an awesome start! Keep up the good work! Tonight I tried the Vulcan drink which was really good and refreshing after a long week. I also tried the milo and dry. It was more on the sweeter side but still a noteworthy drink. Lastly, I tried the crab cake slider! It was absolutely delicious. read more

A group I'm part of had a holiday celebration at Dread River last night and they exceeded our expectations in every way. The interior was absolutely beautiful and sparkling clean. The drinks and snacks were delicious and the service was over the top outstanding! Billy and Caleb were attentive, kind and responsive. Thank you so much for giving us a fantastic evening! read more

I had never heard of this place until my friend mentioned it to me the day before we went. I was super surprised that the city finally had one but I knew I had to visit it. The tour was my first one at an alcoholic facility. It was only $10 which is pretty nice for a 20-30 minute tour. They walked us through the areas where they make their spirits and beer and explained their processes, which sounded very cool, scientific, efficient, and extremely unique. Then we were able to try their vodka and whiskey. I was particularly fond of the whiskey, which was aged for 5 years and very smooth. They are selling these spirits at the moment and I am very interested in buying that whiskey. It was a very cool experience, and I am looking forward to it opening up as a tasting room and event center. read more

Fully enjoyed the tour of the distillery! Loved the bar area. I enjoyed my chicken but it was a little salty. Husband had the short ribs and he was a little disappointed in the portion, thoroughly enjoyed it, but wished he had more. Our server, Star, was great. read more

This place is CLASSY. Beautiful venue, great ambiance, and fabulous decor. The drinks are delicious-- I recommend the Vulcan. Drink prices are reasonable for handmade fresh cocktails, and come in large quantities. The service was fantastic, with workers bringing our room more tables and chairs when we had more people join us. I can also see this being a great venue for wedding receptions. read more

What a wonderful place to visit. I took the opportunity to go on a tour before visiting the bar/lounge area. The tour was excellent. There's a wonderful team back there who are both so knowledgeable and passionate about what they are doing. You are given the opportunity to try their rum, gin, whiskey, and vodka at the end of the tour. The bar/lounge area is fabulous. The interior is decorated oh so nicely and looks superb. There are plenty of TV's to watch games. The drinks are very well crafted here and taste really good. I don't say that much when it comes to mixed drinks. And ... of course they have some cute Dread River gear located in the small shop in the back room. They have shirts, candles, and you can also purchase what you tried in the distillery! (Of course I got a shirt!) read more

Wow - this place was absolutely amazing! Stellar service; starting with their tour, then the tasting and their hang out appetizers!! Everyone was amazing and their vodka and blue agave were exquisite!!! read more

Had a great time at Dread River! Great drinks, nice atmosphere and Reed an amazing bar tender!!!

Atmosphere was nice food and drinks were good. The bourbon had a little too much cinnamon for my taste but overall a good experience.

This place is definitely not your normal Birmingham spot! Somebody really took there time and did it right. There was a guy there that took you around the entire place and talked to us about upcoming event and all that was happening that night. I went crazy in the gift shop! This is my new hang out spot! read more

Both the food and the drinks were AMAZING! Our waiter, Jaggar, was very kind and attentive during our time there. I will definitely be back!

Dread River is ok. Located near UAB in a Spanish revival style building (not sure what it formerly was) There is ample space and a lot of outdoor seating. I think the decor and ambiance is confused because there are a lot of tvs, 2 sets of music playing different songs on opposite ends of the room so it feels more like a casual sports bar/brewery but the decor is very posh. By the photos I was expecting something really high end feeling like the marble ring but it definitely felt more like a college sports bar. Most clientele were UAB students when I went. The food is fine but nothing to write home about. It's fine for bar food but Carrigan's still take the win for the best gastropub in Bham. Comparable to Applebee's maybe? The cocktails are also okay and even though everything is made in house they are very sweet and one dimensional. Nothing like a cocktail at Atomic or Colin's. Overall I thought it was okay but I probably won't go out of my way to come back. Birmingham has much better food and drink options. read more

Came here on a Saturday to watch college football games. This place is huge and decorated on point. It feels like the inside of a fancy mansion. There is plenty of room to social distance or even to have a room to yourself. The staff were all super nice, speedy, and helpful. I have taken a distillery tour here before and it was actually really fun and interesting. I have also had several drinks on the menu, and while they are priced on the higher side each one has been on point. They were running a special on Spiked Cherry Limeades with their vodka for $7 during game day. This is what I ordered (several of them). They taste fresh and like the highest quality ingredients are used. It sort of took me back to my childhood in a good way. They also had a chicken finger platter for $10 which we shared. The chicken had a very interesting breading which really worked and you can tell the meat was top tier. Some of the best chicken fingers I have had if I'm being honest. The fries that came with the meal were also really good and we had two different aiolis to dip them in. It also came with "cole slaw" but it definitely should not have been called that because it was so much better and very inventive. The "cole slaw" was dressed to perfection and contained a fair amount of bell peppers, really tasty. Overall this place is amazing and I can't emphasize how cool it is on the inside and with top tier food and drinks it's a must go. read more

This place is a really cool spot. The lounge area was openly spacious and allowed for social drinking and distancing hubby really had a good birthday cocktail hour here. He said that the vodka they created was super smooth and it will be amazing in lemonade. So of course I bought a bottle for him to make at home. The waiter was very hospitable and attentive. Amazing place to visit again. Only thing I would recommend is the lighting could be a little deemed very bright for a lounge/bar. read more

We found Dread River on the internet when looking for things to do in the Birmingham area when friends came into town for a visit. Always looking for a place that is a bit different and provides an "experience" besides just going out for dinner. We did the Barber Motor Sports museum during the day, then went to Dread River Distilling for a tour of the facility ($20/) and dinner. Well worth the tour as it killed an hour and provided a tasting of their multiple products. Dinner menu is limited, but adequate and I had a great burger/fries. The venue is very comfortable yet cozy. Great service. Nice people. Well worth the stop. read more

I came here to watch an Alabama game and was blown away! The decor is stunning and creates a relaxing atmosphere and vivacious ambiance. The drinks! Wow! The best I have had in Birmingham. I highly recommend The Crawford. I initially tried it because it's my last name, but I was blown away. Their food is phenomenal as well. I honestly wasn't expecting that since it was a distillery and not a 5-star restaurant. I was mistaken! The white pizza and truffle fries were delicious, and I had plenty of leftovers. I will certainly be back! What a great asset to the downtown eateries! read more

Our small group was amazed by the attention and great service we received. William was great! Highly recommend! Thank you for everything.

This place is fantastic. Kind, personal service, amazing burgers, cool decor, unique spirits. This is a Birmingham home run! Whether you are a local or visiting this place gets a Top Notch rating from the snobbiest customer service snob that you might ever meet! read more

I came to Dread River Distillery for the first time during Magic City Classic week. I myst say, the outside and inside of the building is beautiful. It's nothing like I've ever seen recently in Birmingham. I noticed even the restrooms were nice. When you first enter, there is a huge bar and then there are several smaller intimate areas/rooms away from the bar. From the bar to the smaller rooms, the ambiance is great. Most rooms have plush and adequate seating and some have nice couches so if you don't want to sit at or sit around the bar, you don't have to. There are waitresses assigned to each room which is a plus so you don't have to continue to get up and wait at the bar for drinks. Besides the nice interior, the staff was very nice. At times they seemed overwhelmed but it's natural because I'm not sure if they have even had an event there with that many people. Also keep in mind, this distillery makes its own alcohol so they won't have your typical Jack or Henn or even Tito's. I also don't recall seeing any wines available. Also the drinks will cost $10+ each, so be ready to spend some coins lol! All in all Dread River is a beautiful establishment and hopefully will be able to sustain and stay in business. read more

I'm visiting from a different state and was looking for something fun to do in the area. I highly recommend giving this distillery a try! I enjoyed the distillery tour, tasting, and food. I enjoy whiskey/bourbon and purchased a bottle of their whiskey and vodka. I also had their lugosi cocktail with crispy chicken and okra. Everything was delicious. Thank you! read more

I booked a tour for $15. Billy was my tour guide and showed me all the intricacies of whiskey making and was extremely knowledgeable in responding to my questions. The equipment in the back is absolutely fascinating. At the end of the tour I had a complimentary tasting of 5 liquors they produce: vodka, rum, blue agave, gin, and whiskey. $15 for a tour and 5 shots is a terrific deal. The front of the distillery is a full bar and restaurant, and has ample space for events. I highly recommend the tour. read more

What an awesome staff! Everyone was so friendly from the minute we walked in the door! The truffle fries are to die for! We had the whiskey burger and shrimp and grits, both were fantastic! This place is so nice. It is decorated superbly. You are greeted at the door. It makes you feel as if you were in another city other then Birmingham. This was my first time visiting and I will be returning. I might even have a gathering there. I'm so excited about the experience again. KUDOS!! read more

Arrived at Dread River. Sat at an almost empty bar for 7 minutes with no acknowledgement. Staff should be trained on the basics of greeting people. The bartender chose to give me a menu which was a great start. The place looks very nice inside, modern decor and furniture that is comfortable. The televisions are large. Trying the first dread river whiskey first. It had a good caramel taste and the finish was not bad. It's made from 3 whiskeys all over 5 years old. Tried the pizza the chicken sandwich and fries. All were solid. The mixed cocktails are very well done. This is a great place, just need to get some of the staff up to par with greeting norms and friendliness. read more
