Pathways is an organization and shelter I became connected with within the past month or so. They…read moreserve women and children who are experiencing homelessness. Programs offered are: Day Center - Daytime shelter where women and children can come to get out of the elements, get meals, have access to showers, access to laundry rooms (if available), get clothing, or ask for everyday basic needs (ex: pads, sanitary wipes, sanitizer, toothbrushes/toothpaste, soap, socks, etc). Women and children can stop by during the day to ask for available items without actually staying at the shelter. There are only a limited amount of spaces to stay overnight, but the day center allows access to care for the basics. ELC (Early Learning Center) which is a childcare facility. This is currently under a remodel (looks amazing btw) that should be opening back up by spring or summer. ***Note - They are in need of a couple more committed, caring and enthusiastic teachers for their ELC to better serve the number of children they care for. I believe you can apply on Indeed. Stepping Stones (overnight shelter). Women (unaccompanied) and mother's with children utilize this service with a focus to moving to permanent housing. Safe Haven - Permanent Housing for individuals with mental illness (severe) Pathways also has case managers, social workers, life skills classes, bingo, resources to assist with goals, educational programs, etc. The goal is to reach and achieve independence. DONATIONS - donations make a HUGE difference for the individuals being helped and cared for by Pathways. You can visit their website or social media to see what needs they may have. You can donate food, clothes, shoes, hygienic products, etc. There is also a particular Goodwill you can donate to and mention Pathways. A few items I have noticed that would be beneficial or that are low are: ponchos/rain jackets, razors, brushes and combs for textured hair, hair products for textured hair, tissue, clothing of larger sizes, underwear, pull ups, towels, etc. You can find out how to help or volunteer by visiting their website or social media. I have found several businesses actually give their employees the option to volunteer in place of some of their work days during the year. All of the staff members I have come in contact with have been wonderful with the people with the shelter, those that just stop by, interns, volunteers, you name it.

I volunteer my time at Pathways twice a month by organizing/coordinating/leading health sessions at Pathways. It's a wonderful opportunity to give back to my community. There are many ways to help out: either with your time, money, or other donations.

From the owner: Tax Deductible Donations for Individuals and Businesses…read more We exist to bring relief to people in desperate situations. We primarily focus on the most vulnerable—families with children, individuals with disabilities, and people experiencing homelessness—but we also have a heart for the most average person who is in need. 100% of people's donations go to caring for others. Our Director pays for all operating and administrative expenses for this organization to ensure that every dollar of others' generosity makes its way to those who truly need help. Charity Fund is a registered public charity based in Birmingham, Alabama. While we serve our local community, we have also helped individuals far beyond our immediate reach. We aim to make the most impactful and efficient use of our resources by doing many small things (like $10 impromptu meal cards for short-notice giving), moderate efforts (such as distributing dozens of meals in areas where homelessness is high), and occasionally larger efforts (assisting families with their living expenses or vehicle repairs) especially for those experiencing discrimination, oppression, or hate. If you know someone who is known for being generous and kind to others and is currently in need of a hand up, please let us know. We prefer to first consider those whom someone already has compassion for. It could be a friend or family member, someone you see on your way to work each morning, or someone you don't personally know but have heard about.

We had an appointment, they said his LIVER was not looking good they wanted Jacobi to come to the Hospital , stay one night to get a change in his TPN, milk, he would need to stay overnight to see if he would have a reaction. We went we stayed overnight . They never said his KIDNEYS were bad. We stayed overnight , the nurses on 9th floor read his charts which were wrong for some reason, gave him double the amount of medication 3 different times, we went home ,I didn't know til he was sleeping for hours. I went back to the ER the same night, the ER sent us home, every should be good. I talked to Linda for the whole week. That Saturday I took Jacobi back to Children's, and he was dying. He was put on Dialysis, never had Kidney issues, he was in so so much pain at the hospital for 2 months, they sent him home with a blood clot the size of a grape fruit and didn't tell me, I found that out when he went to UAB. He stayed there in ICU a month on a ventilator. Then from there he went to Palliative Care, to pass in peace. I begged them to let me bring Cobi home, we did he died in my arms on Nov- 3rd 2019. My son was happy , fine when we went for the over night stay and died in my arms months later. They never told me that he was dying, they never told me he had bad kidneys, He's been in their care for over 10 years, why not tell me he's dying, why not tell me his Kidneys are bad?why did he needed stay? What was the effect of the new TPN, what was the effect to the drug overdose? What was the effect of the 300 mg of new meds y'all gave him? What was the affect of the dye y'all put in his body the morning of his stay for a scan? How do a child go to an appointment, not sick in the last year? Been thru so many surgeries and came out Blessed, die after he's Overdosed, on his own meds? Oh why was this amount even in his chart? Why didn't the pharmacy and nurse see it's was a very high dose? The end result is my son is Gone and they say he was going to die anyway??? We all are going to die, but you didn't have to rush it he was a child, he is my child, my son and he's gone. They know when Jacobi came to the First appointment he was fine, the next appointment he was fine the 3rd ER VISIT HE WAS PUT IN ICU, and all they say is he's health was deteriorating, could you share that with his Mother, months ago?No they did not. They are smiling in your child's face acting like they care but they are just numbers to these Dr,'s. I live with, I never should have took him, but as a Mother, I had to do what was supposed to be best but what I thought would help him, took my Child from me, and my life will never be the same. I was supposed to protect him from the Dr.'s that was supposed to help him. I live with that, but not my Son. Children's Hospital, Birmingham Al.
