Sacred Temples are not just associated with this church; other faiths have these holy buildings. A LDS Temple is different than ward buildings, which are open to the public. LDS Temples are only open to the public during the Open House before it's dedicated. Please review official Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints websites for information and data. The property is breathtaking. The Temple footprint is huge; I would almost argue it's near the size of the Los Angeles LDS Temple or even Salt Lake. This review is for the food pantry portion of the church, rather than the church itself. When I…read morereturn for a church service, I'll update the review with information about that. The church partners with the Utah Food Bank to provide food to people, with no requirement to show proof of need. They do not require an interview or paperwork in exchange for their services. You just show up during the distribution time and are given whatever food options they have that week. Selections may vary week to week, depending on the donations they receive. I did not see other items beyond food (clothing, diapers, hygiene items) like some other food pantries/banks may have. The food pantry is open for distribution on Thursdays from 9-5. As mentioned, you don't need to do an interview or provide any paperwork to get assistance. They are enforcing social distancing and mask wearing and they are limiting contact-trying to keep everyone safe. If you are interested in volunteering your time, they accept volunteers on Wednesday mornings and all day Thursday to organize and distribute the food. It's a wonderful organization with caring people running it.

After…read morevisiting The Point Church and their beautiful multi cultural congregation, it is safe to say, "Praise God for this church." A very good friend of ours in Hawaii extended his helping hand, by introducing someone virtually to help us get established in a new church. After we settled in to SLC, we were invited to attend and wow, everyone here is genuinely kind and compassionate. This elegant church is easy to find and offers lots of free parking. As soon as you enter the beautiful building, you are warmly greeted. Newcomers are welcomed to sign in, which is then followed by a nice cup of coffee or hot chocolate from their Hebrew Cafe. From the moment you enter, there is a peaceful feeling like you belong. When the worship team sings, it's like angels gracing your presence. This is the very first time that we've seen American Sign Language interpreters in church and it goes to show how much they embrace members of all communities. Thank you Alphonso B. for the referral. I did a little research online and found that they are open to visitors, so I joined for the 10:00 Sunday meeting/gathering. Immediately, I felt welcome and at home. They say "come as you are" and I believe they truly mean it. I did not feel any judgement or that I needed to defend my presence, just openness and welcome. For those that have never been to a service, I'll explain a bit about how it went down when I visited-keeping in mind that I'm certainly no expert, just sharing my observations. Upon entering the space, everyone leaves their shoes at the door. People were in socks or bare feet-I think it's a personal preference. Inside the sanctuary, there are cushions on the floor as well as some chairs toward the back and along the walls. At every seat, there was a booklet with the prayers and affirmations-this comes in handy when it's time to join in. When it's time to begin, there are chimes and the Sensei, I believe he's called, walks in slowly, ritually, followed by another person. I don't know what her role is, although she lit a candle, they bowed to each other and the rest of the participants before she took her seat. There's a lot of bowing that follows. Visitors were welcomed and then a brief explanation of the service was given, which I appreciated greatly. We opened with a few minutes of "deep listening" where anyone was invited to share some thoughts. Several folks shared challenges they are facing or things that had been weighing on their minds. The vulnerability and love was strong; everyone was very respectful of each other. Following the deep listening exercise, everyone read from the booklet of prayers, chants and affirmations. It was beautiful and encouraged a sense of oneness with each other. Nobody was better than another, everyone was equal and whole-even including the leader, who was sitting on the floor with everyone else. Very symbolic. The final piece was the message from the Sensei-which was less formal and slightly interactive. I appreciated how he shared his experiences and perspectives and invited everyone to consider their own perspective. He did not state that his was the only right way, but instead that every person is responsible to find the path that works for them. And we will all have different paths. So many of the things he said resonated with me and I loved it! I'm not sure if I'll commit to attending regularly, but I certainly will return. If you see me there, please come say hi. Pastor Scott, who has been there for years, and Pastor Mike who is pretty new, are both wonderful Preachers of The Word. CenterPoint has it all in a very comfortable setting. Worship, fellowship, discipleship, ministry and mission. I regularly attend the services and feel Gods greatness and love through the music and sermons, and have met many awesome people through going there. Thank you CenterPoint for being there for me. Beautiful, modern chapel, built less than a decade ago. I used to frequent their rummage sale…read morefundraiser and family carnival they hold each summer. Their congregation is tight knit and I felt a little suspicious of outsiders, but they are still friendly. It's not one of those churches you can show up, light a candle and pray..someone will come question you. I know this because my in-laws are practicing Catholics. My own family abstains, but I enjoy going along for the cultural experience. I wish they would do a little more community outreach like the Madeleine downtown does. But again, it is a lovely building.
