Dr. Pessoa is seriously the best! He quickly diagnosed my issue and worked on getting it treated right away. He was so fast and thorough.

Crowns look great, but what's underneath doesn't. After their initial root canal and crown (done wrong), I ended up with a year-long infection that eventually required an apicoectomy and then a full root canal redo by an endodontist -- who was shocked they had let it go so long (more than a year) and hadn't caught, on imaging, that the entire root canal seal had failed and was leaking. Right after the crowns were placed more than a year ago, I called them in urgent pain -- but they didn't answer for a full week because of "phone issues." In desperation, I went to a 24/7 dentist who misdiagnosed me. When they finally answered the next day, I went back because they knew my case and I didn't want to risk losing my new crowns. They loaded me with antibiotics, did the apicoectomy, and gave me a free bottle of "fairy dust" mouthwash, assuring me that time would help. It didn't. They could have caught this much earlier with proper imaging like an MRI and a timely referral to an endodontist. Instead, it was delay after delay, unnecessary procedures, and more pain than I should have endured. I will not be returning. I paid a lot of money for a nice crown with a hole in it. read more

I just got here from San Diego and it was time to look for a new dental home! I did some research and this one was closest to home so I chose it. It's such a beautiful office right when you walk in. Everything is bright and clean. I had the best cleaning ever by Laura! She was so attention to detail. My mouth felt so clean after. She took the time to explain everything to me and was so gentle and caring. Dr Dallas came in and he was so personable. I'm in the dental field so they didn't have to explain much to me. I do not recommend this dental office, at all. They only offer products that are expensive and the majority, not covered by insurance. My child went in for some fillings and they claimed they only did a certain type of filling, which happened to be not covered under insurance. They didn't offer alternative services to help with costs. They also make you feel guilty for not choosing into services that are not required, i.e. fluoride treatment. They have an upscale, new, and expensive office and they obviously need to pay for it in extra costs. The x-ray equipment they use is excessive and unnecessary. Again, overcharging to pay off that expensive equipment. Every time I leave, I feel as though I did something wrong with MY dental choices. I won't be going back and will be finding a new normal dentist office. read more

I am glad I was able to experience the wonderful staff and incredibly patient Dr. Pessoa who took time to explain things, ensure I was comfortable with his suggestions and fully understood what the risks associated with my dental care are. Having moved here to Utah from the east coast over a year ago, I was in need of a dentist and found Draper Smiles and thought I would check this place out. I could not be more happier with my experiences at Draper Smiles. Dr. Pessoa and his staff are amazingly courteous and friendly toward their patients - upon arrival Blair greets you with a genuine smile and is very caring toward all patients. For a dental office, I found the office décor to be very clean, stylish and comforting. While waiting to be seen, there is an assortment of up to date magazines, Netflix, and plenty of bottled water at your fingertips. I have also noticed on occasion when young kids of all ages come in for their checkups they are excited to be at the dentist - maybe it's the video games at their disposal or the gentile and caring hygienist who makes this an enjoyable visit. I normally do not write reviews for services I have had, but recently I had an incident on a late Friday afternoon - my temporary dental bridge had broken on my lower front teeth! Oh my what a predicament to be in - I immediately went to Walgreens and purchased dental adhesive and attempted to make the fix myself and to no avail would the temporary dental bridge stay in place. I then placed a call to Dr. Pessoa at 6:30 PM to tell him of my dilemma - he replied "no problem, meet me at my office so I can fix things up for you." I was taken aback by his prompt attention to a patient on a late Friday evening and this kind of service has fortified my trust in Dr. Pessoa and to that end a simple thank you is not enough for this kind of service! If it were not for his attentiveness - my weekend would have been ruined! I, like the majority of the world, hate going to the dentist. My ultra sensitive teeth give me a jolt just thinking about it. But now I've been to Draper Smiles twice and my opinion is quickly changing. Why? Oh, honey, let me tell you why. 1. 7am appointments. I'm a busy woman and I don't like taking off work to have a stranger probe my mouth and scrape my teeth. 2. The Draper Smiles staff is alert and happy, but not too happy at 7am. I don't need people to be ultra chipper before my first cup of coffee, and they strike the right balance. 3. As soon as I said "I have really sensitive teeth" at my first appointment, they gave me a little Dixie cup of magic juice. Swish for 90 seconds, spit, and your mouth becomes pleasantly numb. You'll still feel a little bit, but it makes it much more tolerable. 4. They take their time during the cleaning and are very gentle. I've had cleanings elsewhere that took less than 5 minutes. NOBODY is both that quick AND effective. 5. Dr. Pessoa is super chill, but is also pretty serious about his job. He takes the time to look at your chart, answers any questions you have, and does a very thorough post-cleaning check. 6. Free chapstick. I remember getting my first one and thinking, "How good can free chapstick be?" So good that as soon as I got to my car after my second appointment, I eagerly checked the goody bag for it...and about lost my damn mind when I immediately dropped it in my car. No worries, I found it under my seat. Crisis averted. 7. This is a new one this visit: the free toothbrush. It is so soft it's like having your gums tickled by fairies. I might up my brushing to 3 times a day. Seriously though, if you are looking for a dentist, check this place out. You won't be disappointed. Thanks, Draper Smiles! read more

Dr. Pessoa is phenomenal! I've had extensive dental work in the past with a continuous history of crowns breaking and popping off. Dr. Pessoa took the time to ask me many questions to ensure that he understood all my concerns, what might have caused past problems, what my "smile" goals were and what was in-bounds/out-of-bounds in terms of treatment. Due to work, I have relocated many times resulting in my cycling through MANY dentists. This was my BEST experience of all and I would highly recommend visiting Dr. Pessoa! Dr. Pessoa is so patient. I went in with several problems from my previous 2 dentists. I mean who goes to the dentist just because they have a free afternoon. When I called to make the initial appointment I was nervous, as I was coming in with existing problems and multi TERRIBLE experiences. Tracy was incredibly kind on the phone and very re-assuring from the get go. When I showed up for my first appointment at 7:00 a.m. (and I don't do anything at that time of day) she welcomed me, as did the rest of the office staff. I was taken in for ex-rays and standard detist stuff. When I met Dr. Pessoa he was incredibly patient with me, allowing me to tell him all of my concerns and responded to every single one of them, making sure I understood the difference between my past experience, my concern, and his reality. He has been just as patient every time I have been in to fix the previously existing mess that I had created for him and he has done a beautiful job. Both he and his staff have been kind and gracious and I am immediately greeted by everyone when I arrive. They all want to make sure I am happy with whatever part of my treatment plan they have taken part in and Tracy has been AMAZING at making sure I understand what is happening as far as what my insurance will and will not cover and why. I could not be happier, and I am sooo happy I took a chance with this office! I went in for a free consultation regarding a dental implant and was pleasantly surprised by the professional way this was handled. X-rays were taken as part of the free consultation, and Dr. Pessoa explained in detail what this procedure would entail, including time frames. During the exam, the dentist discovered a small cavity next to the future implant which he will repair, should I have him do the work. Since I have no insurance, the only drawback is the total cost, close to $3,000--a large amount of money for a retired person on Medicare! I recently had some cosmetic work done to my top teeth (about 6) to fill in some gaps from smaller teeth. I am so impressed with Dr. Pessoa's work. The color matching he did was incredible. My teeth look so much better now. I didn't really realize how self conscious I was about them.
