Love Drake and I've always been loyal because of the customer service. What I love mostly is that my call is always picked up at the first ring- I never have to hold for an agent. Drake software is getting worst in programming their software according to IRS and other State Regulations = since Corona Virus. it sucks!!!! Everything is a mess. For small little thing, have to call them to get software navigation. Keep chaning software according to their own design- not according to IRS regulations. Price is going high every single year- but less customer support. Customer services is lacking trining and there are so much turnover of the staff. Supervisor /Manager do not come to the phoe as if they are dead. No follow up. Programming may be going to other country - seems like otherwise they would know IRS regulations. Drake pay is the worst service Drake has ever offered. Even when you call them you can't actually talk to anyone, they say I will write it up and forward it.... no follow up, no way for us to review if they entered your account information correctly. They say they expedite your issue but after 2 weeks of the pay service not actually hitting the bank I feel they don't care about their customers because that is an issue that deserves immediate attention!! Someone is holding the money clients paid, this is unethical!! I thought for sure someone would actually follow up and address this! In 2025 I worked for Taxact a company of Drake Software. It was horrible!! There upper management refuses to answer questions with a phone call. After 8 weeks and dozens of emails they STILL won't call to resolve. I've asked for the CEO to tell him of my experiences with the company and the head of HR refuses to tell me his information. Incompetence at the highest level!! Ohhh and the crooked 401k benefit is a joke, they tell you they match and then when tax season is over they force the distribution AND charge you!! We used Drake Tax Software starting in 2017 and it felt like we hit the jackpot. A family owned company that cared about its clients, had excellent software and wonderful customer service in the US. They were purchased by CINVEN in 2021, though and started spiraling. You could tell they were treating their employees poorly in comparison to prior years. Software has had more and more bugs. Price has more than doubled and now they are charging for the Portals that used to be free. Found this out this morning.... and all we have is problems, now. We looked at going back to TaxAct but CINVEN bought them in 2022 and merged the companies. We have been actively searching for a good alternative for a couple years now and we intend this to be our last season with Drake. Am hearing the same from all the tax prep offices we know across Idaho, Washington and Oregon. It is a true shame. read more

I have been a Drake customer for many years but the 2024 tax software is a nightmare. For four weeks, since 2/19/25, I have had problems emailing anything from it and when I try it causes the software to lock up. The techs have fixed it then a couple hours later it reverts to the same email problem. Since most clients want a digital copy of their tax return, this is an important function. The techs tried a repair/reinstall, copying Drake 2023 mail folder into Drake 2024 and another tech had me remove my virus protection on the Drake 2024 file. They said sometimes the virus protection treats 2024 as a hostile file, which makes no sense. My Drake 2023 works fine so this is exclusive to Drake 2024. They know they have a problem as I am not the only one complaining. I am very disappointed with the tech support. I waited a whole week for a response from them and in a short tax season, this is unacceptable. My email is down now again and it has been four days and no help from the tech team. After four weeks of this problem, I have no faith that they know how to fix it. I think they are just guessing and have no real solution. I have lost so much time on this mess. When I spent over $2000, I expect a better product. Buyer beware. read more

I had a recent phone conversation with CSR Crystal to assist with tax question I had and issues I had been encountering. Rather than asking me questions to understand my issue, assumptions were made and eventually became very demeaning toward me as a customer. I have had similar issues in past years with other CSR's and took it to be time of the year and high demand. My issue was not resolved and I will be calling back soon to hopefully get answers and just hope for nicer CSR in future. Recommend better training and oversight before releasing them to your clients. read more

We have a mid-sized tax firm, and loved Drake software for years. A couple years ago, though, they brought in "help" to make it better and it started spiraling. It used to be that I thought they should raise their prices for the great service they provided and the reliable software. Now when you call, you get annoying calling trees, employees who sound miserable and don't know as much, followed by pushy-ness for surveys. Prices have gone through the roof and they are obviously prepping to sell. My fear is they will sell to Intuit, a company we greatly dislike. Last year I was hesitant to renew Drake for the first time. After 2 years of changes for the worse, we are actively looking for other companies that are not going for box store but are going for family owned, reliable, with good service. read more

I have used Drake for years. Past several years it is always something. I delayed buying it for the 2024 Tax Season, and I still purchased it. Now we can not use the bank product. I am now waiting again for a response. I do not believe they will call me back at all. One lady hung up on me, one told me the bank does not work for drake. I would never talk to a client like that! I think they are too expensive, but what tax software isn't. I am very pleased with the software. It takes some getting used to, but there is always help available. I have been with Drake for 10 years and don't see myself changing. I would highly recommend Drake tax software. read more

February 10 2024, I purchased Drake Software to do tax returns for clients (to expanding my small business to include this service for select clients). Due to a code, issued by the IRS.gov website, that would not be accepted by Drake Software, I was not able to e-file any return I was needing to do. After entering the code many times and contacting Drake support, I was told to contact the IRS to get a new code. Hours of my life I will never get back, I did try to get a new code issued by IRS multiple times. They did not reissue this code for the EFIN that I had to have in order to make the efile work. After days of this, and not getting help, clients were jumping up and down about their taxes being filed, so I abandoned Drake Software entirely to keep my clients from going to another firm for this service. I purchased software elsewhere to handle the clients case by case, and what I made did not cover my losses. Now that my work load eased up, I contacted Drake again to let them know it never worked, never connected, I did not use it for any return and as they could track the use of their software could see I did not e file anything. I requested a refund. Due to "company policy" and no flexiblity for a case where the links between them and IRS did not work, I was denied the refund of $369.20. Over and over, the escalation manager only could repeat, "it was outside of the 3-day refund period on the licensing agreement" even though I reminded him, to look at his notes where I called and tried to get this to work and to look and see that I could not and did not use the program I paid so much for. I asked for help, he would not. I asked for someone else, he said there was no one else, and he stuck to his policy. Small businesses beware of this company. If you spend the money with them, whether you get the service or not, you will have lost it. They do not care about the individual, the experience, or about being ethical with your dollars. We have been loyal customers of Drake Software since we switched over from Tasc Force back in 2012. However, we never had to use their support system for any major problems until last week. I have never been so disappointed about a program as I am about Drake. As of today, they have yet to resolve our problem. After numerous emails, telephone calls etc., the problem is still unsolved. I have used other software companies over the years and found Drake takes care of all my needs and has 5* when it comes to getting a live person online. There are some minor bells and whistles I wish they had in their software, but not a deal breaker. read more
