I remember my first ever getaway was visiting Prince Edward County, and Drake Devonshire was one of the must-visit restaurants on my list. It is located inside Drake Devonshire Inn, with lots of rooms for staycation in PEC :) There isn't a lot of parking at the Inn, but you can certainly park on Wellington Main Street, and walk down to the restaurant. I've been coming back to this restaurant ever since. I do recommend coming here during the day for breakfast/brunch/lunch because you will get to enjoy the amazing water view! Night time is romantic too with the glowing, warm and rustic chic decor :) Most recent visit was in April 2022. We had a nice corner table at the back of the restaurant. Order cocktails to start, and shared the following: - Duck wings is a must-order! Dressed with maple syrup, and comes with a Sriracha-spiked buttermilk ranch dip! - The mushroom pappardelle was very creamy and had lots of mushrooms! Hip nouveau spot in on-trend Wellington, Prince Edward County. The ambiance is fantastic, a hive of nightlife amidst its pastoral surroundings and a luxurious view of the lake from an equally luxurious terrace. We reserved the last table of a Saturday night at 7:45pm so considered ourselves lucky for a coveted seating time with a same day booking. There happened to be what looked like a wedding party in one of the dining rooms so we expected the kitchen would be busy. My three star rating would be four if it were not for the service. Food, atmosphere, and even the staff themselves were all pleasant and deserving of a solid testimonial. However, when a party of two orders two drinks, one appetizer, and two mains and the restaurant gets two wrong, that translates to a meagre grade of 60% (see how I did the math there?). On top of that, service was slow, which we understood and accepted but there was more to it. Two couples seated after us were served before us. One even had paid the bill and left before my wife got the main she ordered. My drink order was mixed up - fine, they fixed it promptly. But then my wife's main was wrong while my steak arrived perfectly cooked. So now i'm being polite and not starting my meal and my wife is wondering if there was just a serving mix up and her dish is coming imminently. But no such luck. Her dish took a full 10 minutes more and by then I was halfway through my meal, which she insisted I tuck into before it got cold. Her main finally arrived and it was very good. Our server was nice enough but took very little ownership of the errors and made no effort to compensate us. Comping the bread we ordered would have been the least they could do. But no, our mediocre service experience was just an acceptable casualty of a busy night at the hottest spot in the County. From the first thing out of the floor manager's mouth as soon as we walked in after 930pm "we're doing last call at 10" (no greeting) to the bitchy bartender guy who could never crack a smile, had severe tone with us, ignored us unless we hailed him down for our drink, the whole experience was garbage. Quite the welcome rolling into Wellington late I will never go here again. I live around the corner in from the Toronto Queen St Drake, which happens to be a lot friendlier in my experience. Turns out the Devonshire is poorly known for this horrible hospitality (you're all in the wrong business) among the locals. We had zero chance at getting any food locally and were starving. A great restaurant would find something they can whip up (even a piece bread and chunk of cheese would suffice) and that wouldn't put them out on their closing duties, I can assure that. We were a large group but they were very accommodating and given there were so many of us, the time it took to get the food and drinks out felt reasonable. As a party of four, we made reservations three weeks in advance and booked the 8:45 am slot. The only slots available on the booking site were 8:30 am and 8:45 am for Saturday and an 8:30 am slot on Sunday. We had heard and seen lots of positive reviews for the Drake. When we arrived, we marvelled at the artwork as we walked to our table on the patio. Many of the tables were full at this time, however after 9:30 am, many of the tables were empty and we weren't clear if it was even necessary to make a reservation ( I would suggest calling in to confirm if you can do walk-ins during this time. We ordered an earl grey tea, two classic Drake's, folded egg sandwich and the eggs benny. In the classic Drake breakfast, it was a lot of variety. The bacon and the home fries were not crispy. As a result of the home fries not being crispy, it tasted very starchy and was not seasoned well. The positive on this was the delicious sourdough bread and sausage. My partner had the folded egg sandwich. He was unable to finish all the arugula as he found it too sharp for his liking. He said the egg sandwich was ok. Overall, you're really paying for the novelty of dining at the Drake, which initially feels exclusive as a result of lack of reservation times and limited seating area. So let me tell you about this place....it started out weak. Our server "Maxwell" seemed less than interested in providing service. It took about an hour for us to begin to get the service we wanted. And then the food came. Let me tell you the food was outstandingly delicious! The eggs benny was beyond scrumptious. The ham...the perfectly poached eggs...the arugula, all delicious! It came with a house sausages, they were off the scale delicious. In fact I feel confident in saying they were the most delicious breakfast sausage that I've ever eaten. My sister and I visited the restaurant for brunch one morning. We were fortunate that a large party had cancelled, as we didn't have a reservation. The hotel is extremely quaint, really cute design with a rustic warm feel. We sat down in a corner seat with a view of the stream and the lake. Our server was very nice and provided great service; it did take a long time to get our food and coffees though. Since it took so long to get our food, our waitress compted our drinks. Once we received our food, I noticed there was a piece of sponge in my dish. I informed the waitress and she was extremely apologetic. Immediately got me a new plate, and continued to apologize. I really appreciated this. The food was excellent and very well presented. A Slice of Toronto in Prince Edward County Fashion. Came for lunch and made a reservation for 8 on a Tuesday. The interior and decor was very "Toronto" with the trendy and modern aesthetic. Definitely a very different look compared to other buildings in the region. We walked in and were wow'd at the waterfront patio. I've been told it's been in the top 100 patios in Canada and I definitely have to agree. Once we ordered I couldn't wait to get out of my seat to take pictures of our group. FOOD. I would have given DD a 5/5 but there were some hit and misses. Menu - was a little lacklustre I felt. The only thing (and the majority) of us ordered the Devonshire burger. That's not to say that doing only a few things really well is not a great strategy, but not much on the menu jumped out at us. Price - your typical Toronto price. You're looking at spending about a minimum of $30 with tax and tip in for a meal here, not including drinks. Devonshire Burger - 3.5-4/5. Decent burger but was it mindblowing? No. Fries were good. Good amount of food. Hot Chicken Burger - 3.5-4/5. Similar to Devonshire burger but chicken. Chicken was really thick but again, same comment. Good amount of food. Shrimp and Grits - 3.5-4/5. It was the most expensive main on the menu, and it was good but was it worth $32? Not in my opinion. Was beautifully presented though. Charcuterie Board - 2/5 - I cannot recommend this if you're getting this as a group. It only comes with 2 slices of bread and 4 small meats each and a bit of accompaniments. What we had was nice, but I cannot see the value in this as it wouldn't fill us up in anyway. What I do HIGHLY recommend isssss: THE FISH FRY UP!!!!!!!! - 5/5 - Oh my god. Mouthwatering. It's a bowl of calamari, shrimp, fish, onions, etc. This is one of the best dishes I've had in a long time. The sauce (i think it's hollandaise) was also SO GOOD. I could have drank it. I want this with me anywhere I go. I would get this again in a heartbeat. It may be a bit oily for some people as it's fried, but this is a perfect comfort food. Good for two people to have as an app. Fries - Most of the mains already comes with fries. I only recommend getting a side of fries if your main doesn't have. I don't recommend the "fancy" as it's just cheese sprinkled on top. Service was great, 5/5. Everyone was very kind and attentive and the staff felt like a team where there wasn't just one waiter taking care of you and whoever we stopped, they made sure you were taken care of. My overall experience was underwhelming with food that is average at most, but might have been better if my visit there went smoothly. Venue: view was nice but nothing spectacular as I believe as long as you can view the lake, it is more/less the same view. Food: Chicken and Waffles 3/5 - due to an unfortunate experience (read below in service section) had to order takeout, which possibly was the reason my waffles were slightly soggy. That being said, I found that they lacked flavour. The chicken however was crispy and well seasoned, being not overly salty and juicy on inside. An average chicken and waffle at most. Nothing else popped out. PB and J 3/5 - taste of the actual open faced sandwich was tasty. Figs added sweetness and paired well with the crunchy peanuts and jam. Was it worth the price? I dont think so. The dish was one slice of sourdough where you can count with one hand the number of slices of fig and peanuts. The pudding it came with literally just tasted like banana with sweet potato blended together. Not worth the price. Green drink 4/5 - I did enjoy this as it was refreshing with all the green goodness to it. Not sweet but not sour either, well balanced drink. Service: It started off decent but ended up leaving us confused and unsatisfied. Got our seats and was able to switch to face the lake, which was nice of them to let us move around. Sadly, that's where things went wrong. After swapping our seats and taking our order, we ended up waiting for 50 minutes to an hour where only one person approached us within that time period (perhaps 20 minutes in) to see if we were ok. Our server never came back, and people received their food before us even though they came later. As I finally was able to reach a staff member, it turns out that they made some mistake and our order didnt go through. Why? We never got an answer to that. A lady came over, whom I am unsure if she was the manager or what not, and told us she 'had it under control'. Our server never came by to apologize, and only did when we crossed paths with him while leaving. As we were in a hurry, we had to get takeout, but overall we waited for a good 1.5 hours. They did cover for our meal, but we still had no idea what happened and the experience felt like they just decided to 'pay for our meal' to 'satisfy' us, but I unfortunately didnt feel the sincerity to the whole situation nor was i necessarily satisfied with the way they handled the situation. The locale and view is very nice here. We made reservations and got an amazing table on the patio. I'd say the view was the main highlight of our brunch. I had the beef brisket tostada and it was quite good. the plate had a mixture of flavours including salsa, avocado, black beans, the brisket and sunny side up egg. It all went nicely together. Great location and great space. The server we had was also excellent. And all the staff at the hotel was quite friendly. We did go there at lunch time during the week, and it wasn't very busy. Which is how I like it. We brought our daughter who had recently turned 1 and going at lunch time was definitely a good call. They do have highchairs there as well, so I guess they are somewhat family friendly. I just assumed it was more a place for couples. Since it wasn't so busy we scored a table by the window with a good view of the water. I had the PEC Chowder to start. It was delicious and I was certainly in the mood for it. Got some sourdough bread to start as well to go with the chowder. My wife had the Pappardelle with blistered cherry tomatoes, ricotta, capers, olives, roasted red peppers, etc. She quite enjoyed it and I tried a little bit. It has a lot of flavours and the pasta was cooked well. I had the County Pulled Pork with cherry BBQ sauce, smoked rice, mustard greens and peanuts. The pulled pork wasn't actually pulled, but was a big of pork shoulder before being pulled. I quite like this because it made the plate seem a little more classy and I had never had pulled pork like that before being pulled. And I like different. The BBQ sauce that came with it was very delicious. The smoked rice was also a really nice tough. And the mustard greens and peanuts helped bring it altogether and give it that southern flare that BBQ should have. All and all it was a great meal. I'd definitely recommend the lunch. This place has amazing views of the water - there is outside seating to take advantage of the views but it was a bit cool the day we were there so we dined inside. The parking lot is quite tiny - you might end up trying to get street parking (but may also be hard if it's busy). The service was nice but unfortunately the food was ok. I had the chicken and waffles - the chicken was actually really good- crispy and moist...the waffles however were cold and lacked taste. After the wonderful welcoming experience dining with our cat baby 3 months ago, today, we walked out of a lunch reservation because we had the most rude encounter at Drake by who I can only presume to be the manager of the day. She never introduced herself. Only walked up with straight authoritative face telling us our cat is not allowed at the patio, that is the rule. We explained that we have been there before with no issue, everyone were friendly the previous time and even offered our kitty a bowl of water, which is why we dragged our large group of 10 to gather there for lunch . I cannot fathom why they or she, decided to interpret the rule differently all of a sudden, even though dogs are allowed on the patio. What really really frustrates me is that she told us we can keep our cat in the car while we eat there and to partition the government if we are not happy with cat not being allowed on the patio. Our cat is NOT a luggage. She said this all with condescending non apologetic tone. Definitely what the tone one would expect from an establishment priding itself as one of the "higher end" ones. Why on earth would I mistreat my fur baby while continuing to patronizing this place? No way. I was genuinely disappointed with the service at the Drake Devonshire. This will be my first and only visit. My friend and I arrived without a reservation at 8PM on a Sunday and were seated relatively quickly despite a lingering crowd. However, during our meal, our waiter was absent. We ordered a pitcher of Sangria, which took 30 minutes to arrive. Then, we ordered two dips and realized while ordering that we were being charged an extra $4 for 4 pieces of bread. I've never been to a respectable restaurant that charged guests for bread. I was genuinely shocked. Then, we ordered a second round of bread, which took 20 minutes to arrive. After moving inside due to mosquitos, our waiter completely vanished. Not to mention, he didn't even acknowledge us as he instructed another waiter to deliver us our bill. We paid 4 figures per night for their best room but got the services of a budget hotel. Getting a hold of Room service was a crapshoot. We called them to order milk for our toddler so we could put him to bed, and some water for us. After 20 minutes of no one answering the phone, my husband had to come downstairs to the kitchen and retrieve it himself. The next day, I tried calling room service again and again no one answered. I tried again 20 minutes later and got someone, and they brought up literally half a small glass of milk. They knew it was for my toddler so they asked if I wanted just a small glass--I said yes but I thought they meant a full small glass as opposed to say, a pint or something. They literally meant an actual small amount - chalk it up to misunderstanding but at that point, it comes across as cheap. When we were leaving, we called for luggage assistance (this place is all stairs, no elevator or luggage carts). Someone came up and took two bags, and we had 4 left. My husband was feeling ill so he waited in the lobby, and I waited in our room thinking they'd be back to retrieve the rest. After it became clear that no one was coming back, I called again to ask someone to retrieve the rest. By then, hubby was at the car loading it up one of the bags, and the porter had left the rest of our bags in the lobby. You would think they'd offer to help bring the bags to the car, seeing as I am 7.5 months pregnant and managing a toddler too. Nope. Pregnant customer had to bring the bags to the car herself. We had tipped generously for our entire stay, and were happy to tip for the luggage help so why they didn't help us was confusing. There were also little things that showed lack of value: no mini fridge, no coffee or tea in the room, and for 4 figures per night, you'd think the bottle of rose they placed in our room, on ice, when we arrived would be included (it is at other hotels if you pay that price). it wasn't. But hey, if you want to buy a $65 doll that is sitting on your bed, and likely was there with the previous customers too, or spend $8 on a 50g bag of off-brand cheezies that you can get at the gas station around the corner for $2 then be my guest. Food was also bland and took a while to arrive when we ate at the restaurant. I will say though, that the staff are really friendly. I don't think the lack of service or value for the price is a reflection of the staff's attitude, I just think the operators need to take some lessons from storied institutions who charge the same prices but offer way more extras and better customer service. In a nutshell, there's a difference between a hotel being expensive because it's a storied, luxury institution, vs it being expensive because of hype and being run by hipsters. read more

This is a review of BRUNCH at the Drake: There was some controversy in Wellington when the Drake opened an outpost here, but I am happy to say that "Drake on the Lake" tries to stay true to the county vibe and is a great spot to relax before/after wine tasting at the nearby wineries. Don't expect it to be a duplicate of the original Queen West location, although there are some familiar elements like a B&W photo booth ($5) and a mini Drake General Store in the lobby. The space itself is beautiful. The dining room has huge windows so everyone has a good view of the lake. The design is modern yet cozy. Service was friendly and unpretentious. As for the food, you can expect their signature blueberry scones with clotted cream (I definitely recommend getting an order for the table to share). I had the bagel and lox, which came with a small salad and was a nice, light breakfast. My DC had the chicken and waffles, which looked really hearty and delicious with chilli peppers for some kick! Another DC had the drake breakfast (eggs, sausage, bacon, toast, hash browns). They take reservations, and I would recommend them for a bigger group or during summer weekends when it's really busy. My group came here in the afternoon for some light bites and drinks. Our table wasn't ready so we walked around and played some games. The location is great with a nice view. The atmosphere was fun and lively. Service was welcoming and friendly. Food: I had the burger and it was decent. But other foods that we ordered were mediocre at best. I think the food overall was underwhelming. Overall: The food was okay but I did enjoy the view and atmosphere. I may come back for drinks only. read more

Such a charming place to eat for brunch with beautiful lake views and good food in PEC! Upon walking in, I could definitely tell that the decor had a similar vibe to The Drake in Toronto but with a cozy, coastal retreat theme to it, which is definitely what they were going for. I loved the beautiful views of the lake's super clear waters on the patio and also the cute river view on another side of the restaurant. So many views that are Insta worthy! We ordered the blueberry scones with jam and cream, the huevos rancheros and brisket hash. I'm still thinking about those delicious, melt in your mouth blueberry scones - highly recommend them! My husband who doesn't have a sweet tooth was also blown away by how delicious they were. We really wish we had ordered more to take home! The brisket hash was another delicious choice as it was a hearty portion of flavourful, tender brisket pieces with eggs and potatoes. The huevos rancheros (eggs, avocados, beans, salsa, rice, pumpkin seeds) was also good with some flavour but it wasn't amazing. The hot sauce was good with it. We waited about 20 minutes for our food and were happy with the quality of ingredients. This meal cost about $55 with tax and tip, which wasn't bad at all. Staff were nice and our server checked on us multiple times while we ate, so no complaints there. It was busy but not overly packed with people which was nice. This is my second time visiting the restaurant for brunch. Love the atmosphere, super trendy, quaint and beachfront. I really enjoyed the restaurant during my first visit however the second time was a different story. When we arrived (we made reservations prior), we asked for patio seats but were told that the wait would be 1 hour for 2 people. The couple before us was told that the wait would be 5 mins. When we were seated indoors and during the entire brunch duration, the patio was only half full.Even 15 minutes after being seated, a group of 4 asked to switch to patio and were seated immediately. I guess they are selective with who they seat in the patio. We finally received our food 45 minutes later but one of the fried chicken was RAW and the pancakes were all burnt on one side. I'll let the raw chicken go since the inside is not visible after they deep fry.....but the burnt pancakes were so obvious and they tried to disguise it by placing the burnt sides facing down....thinking we wouldn't notice. facepalm. They did replace both items and the manager came by to make sure everything was okay. Nice touch but not enough to convince me to go back. read more
