It was delicious and definitely different than the fish cakes I'm used to eating in the states. The fish soup was also really good, especially with the bread. The ambiance was unbeatable. Copenhageners are extremely into organic foods and sustainable lifestyle. Since we were going to a second dinner afterwards, we decided to just pick a few appetizers and have drinks. The husband tried the Nørrebro on tap which is an American pale ale dedicated to the said neighborhood. It's pleasant with lots of nice aroma and a bitter bite. I had a glass of Sangiovese with firm tannins and savory black cherries. Not exactly a match for the delicate lobster that I ordered, but my wine is my main course! ;) Speaking of the Norwegian lobster, it was nicely grilled and put together with leeks, confit of salsify (akin to a turnip), green tomatoes and crispy rye bread. Their bowl of carrot soup is heartwarming and topped with candied lemon dill. Do not be shy to ask for extra bread since their bread is classically European: dark rye, semi dense and so good with butter. BOB served our purpose as a pre dinner soirée as their plates are meant for grazing and the ambiance, even on a weeknight, is pretty exciting. Or perhaps it was our seats that were facing the window, but we had a full view of the street happenings in the vibrant Vesterbro neighborhood. Locals rushing by on their bikes and street girls trying to meet her quota for the night. That is as organic as you can get.

But I simply cannot recommend that anyone who is not Danish dine here. The service was 'Meh' at best throughout the meal - even though the restaurant was far from full our waiter seemed quite certain that he had better things to do than serve our lunch. But the wheels really came off the cart when it came time to pay our check. When I presented my credit card he said that he was sorry, but their machine was having issues and I would have to go inside to pay. OK...not a problem...until I found out that their payment system was not working, the waiter knew this, and didn't bother to mention it before we ate. Lumskebugten is not an inexpensive restaurant - what tourist carries 2000 DK (a little over $300) in cash? So I asked for the closest ATM...and he told me there was none and that my best bet was walking south until I found one. No offer to call a taxi (much less pay for one) so off I headed leaving my family - grandparents, children, and wife - behind. It turned out that none of the 'banks' or 'ATMs' that showed up on google anywhere near the restaurant actually had ATMs (they were mostly investment banks or e-banks) - I ended up walking all the way to Nyhavn. And so a little over an hour later I returned to the restaurant. Where much to my surprise I found the table exactly as I left it. No plates had been cleared, no water glasses had been refilled. No dessert or coffee served to in some way alleviate the boredom nor apologize for the extraordinary disservice of making my family wait for an hour while I hunted for an ATM. I later found out that the waiter disappeared the moment I left and never returned.
