We found this burger joint after a search on Google and we were NOT disappointed! I'll start by saying that I love burgers. LOVE them and finding a great burger is tricky sometimes. This place is in a mall and worth the visit! A huge shout out to the staff that were all working on Saturday, October 2nd in the afternoon. A group of us went together and we admit we were a bit of a tough group to get our orders in and organized. (There may have been some afternoon beverages involved for a few of them!) The staff were patient and really great! So thank you for dealing with us! :) We all ordered a variety of items from quarter pound burgers, Thanksgiving poutine, Pumpkin milkshakes, sweet potato fries and other items. All of us (6 people in total) really enjoyed our meals! I'll talk about my burger which was a bacon cheddar 1/4 pound burger. I loaded it up with chipotle mayo, LOTS of pickles, lettuce, tomato, and ketchup. My burger was great! Really flavorful, great bun to burger ratio and they used the Villaggio Toscana Extra Soft Hamburger Buns. I also had the sweet potato fries and they were really great! Way better than most places. The only 2 things I wished were different about my burger is that I would have liked the bacon to be hot (it was luke warm at best) and if the bun could be toasted. But what I will say about the bacon is that it was cooked to the perfect level of crispness for a burger! (Obviously it was precooked and that's why it wasn't warm enough). The people that did have the thanksgiving poutine said it was amazing too! Our Pumpkin shakes were okay. I wouldn't get it again though. Today I went to pick up burgers for my family only to be informed that they don't have veggie burgers even though the menu says there are and we have ordered them regularly for years. will not go back! I first tried their burgers in 2015 and whenever i get the chance to come to Westbrook Mall I always make sure i get one quarter or a half pound. Review: burger and Poutine. Bottomline: Great tasty burgers with fresh ingredients and interesting combinations. The Poutines were a bit too salty. Atmosphere: located at the food court and next to the play area. Great to grab a bit while your kid goes wild. Super friendly service. Food: ordered the half pound Jammin' Dragon and the Veggie Poutine. The burger had bacon jam and Chipotle mayo, which I thought was quite refreshing from the typical stuff you get at a burger joint. Everything was fresh and very tasty. The patties were slightly drier than I would've liked but the combination of the cheese, mayo, and jam kept me craving for more. The Poutine was okay. Everything was well seasoned so I felt it was too heavy and salty, even for a Poutine. Value: the price is good for the quality and quantity of food. Encore? Yes and yes. I hate to write this review, but write I must. I was at Westbrook to go to the very good, large SportChek there and decided on lunch at Dragon's Lair since I'd had very good experiences there in the past, but if had been many months since my last visit. It was a huge disappointment. I got the special with pimento cheese and onion jam with chipotle mayo but asked for plain mayo instead as that sounded like a horrible combo but I was intrigued. Got the $12 burger and it was a drippy mess and not in a good way. The sandwich was almost unrelenting mush, with a bun that is clearly from a supermarket bag (you can see the buns right on the counter- off the shelf mass-produced buns and not bins from a local bakery; there are SO MANY better options) that was itself mushy and unable to handle the moist onslaught. The onion jam and pimento cheese combo just makes the whole thing taste of barbecue sauce, which is a taste I cannot stand on a burger. The meat itself is too-lean ground beef that is the only thing in this burger that's not mushy, and not in a good way as they've gone the bizarre route of using ground- I want to say round, something really lean- and the texture of the patty is consequently hard and dry. I'm sad to see how what had been one of my favourite burgers is such a letdown now. read more

Burger...4 stars. Above-average burger. The patties are a bit slender (likely due to burger press) but taste nice and fresh, not frozen. The choice of condiments is a nice touch...you can even have your onions and mushrooms sautéed if you wanted to for no additional cost. The spicy "Hero" sauce was also good. The patties could use a little bit of seasoning but this isn't a gourmet joint. Ask to have the buns slightly toasted on the grill for more flavor and hold, as they tend to fall apart fairly easily. Spicy Parmesan fries...2 stars. Whatever hot sauce they used to toss the fries in just doesn't work...it gives the fries a little kick but also a soggy texture. A dash of chili powder would work better, keeping the fries nice and crispy. The parmesan is very light and the taste is practically nonexistent...perhaps overwhelmed by the hot sauce. read more

Going in to any new food experience, I get my hopes up, but all too often it's just not there. Then I asked myself, how come there are such disparate ratings among reviewers. To start with, many reviewers come from very different places when it comes to food: our levels of discernment differ enough to reveal glaring differences in our ratings. A lot of other factors seem to play into ratings. For instance, maybe some people have a 'messiah complex' and by their reviews imagine overstatement will help save some little hole-in-the-wall enterprise. Dunno... Additionally, many burger places compete on provincial and national levels to determine who has the best burger, and this one is no exception: a provincial burger finalist, Dragon's Lair advertises largely on being a 'cook-off champion.' I wonder if they use different ingredients for those contests and then downscale their 'at-store' burger for their customers... Why do I write this? Although the patties in the 1/2 pounder I ordered were real, they tasted only like average lean-ground beef fried on a grill. Nothing special, but just a-ok. The cheese they use is processed (!), and the condiments are average. Both sauteed and plain white onions and grilled mushrooms did little to improve what the meat didn't deliver. The buns look a little different but are just the same old white bread that really needs to be special to help support the claims of 'best burger.' And the aftertaste - oftimes a determining factor - was so missing that once home again I wanted to brush my teeth! The yam fries were good but they too were not standouts. Sorry but I don't get it, and I am not somehow revelling in dissing restaurant after restaurant in the city, but really...! Maybe I should shut up and be thankful that this resto actually serves real meat instead of fillers pretending to be meat, as many seem to do. But is this where we are ending up? Do we want to praise marginal taste and quality?! Oh yes, this drab little mall that's anchored by Walmart, Mark's and Smitty's is barely managing, but hasn't reached the depths of the deplorable Northland Village Mall yet. Too bad, but I won't be returning for more tasteless 'dragon' mediocrity. Want a better burger? Naina's and The Rock - both on 17th Avenue - easily outgun this one. These guys used to be good and still are occasionally. Pretty good food when they actually take the time to make it properly. Since they have gotten more popular/busier the quality has tanked. Now if you go and there is any sort of line the employees seem to get very flustered and the attention to what they are making goes out the window. God forbid they have a door dash or skip the dishes order waiting.... Every time we have gone and one of these delivery workers shows up they rush rush rush everyone else's food and the burger are a mess they forget to add toppings, the whole experience suffers greatly. Sadly this last visit may be our last as the same thing happened and it's the last straw. Hope they can improve in the future. read more

Best burger champion? They deserve it. Dragon's Lair Burger has a very unassuming front end located in a food court, but don't let that throw you off! Their burgers are amazing! I tried the winner of the AB Burger Fest which is the Jammin Dragon double party burger with jalapeño-pimento cheddar cheese, caramelized onion bacon jam, and ancho chipotle mayo. Wow is it fresh and flavourful. Their fries are also very crispy. This place has a cool take on burgers for those who are celiac or gluten intolerant and offer all of their burgers in a "protein box" without a bun. Awesome for those of us who need to keep gluten out of their diet. If you love burgers, come check this place out. P.s. The owner is super nice! read more

Talk about an unassuming burger joint. This place is located in a pretty sad looking food court in Westbrook Mall. I would've never stopped to eat here if not for the chalkboard that said it was the winner of Alberta Burger Fest! Friendly staff work behind the counter. I tried the cheeseburger and poutine and my mother had the fish burger. The burgers are made to order and you have your choice of various toppings (including sauteed onions and mushrooms!) and sauces. The burger was great as was the poutine, which had lots of cheese curds and the fries were freshly made. My mother really enjoyed her fish burger. They also have bacon jam, which sounds very intriguing, for a small charge and I will definitely try that next time. read more

By far the best veggie burger in the city. Would even recommend the veggie burger over the real meat burgers (after having both). Great customer service and attention to detail. Burgers were ok the bun was too soggy. I did like the taste of the bacon jam and chipotle mayo. Had the onion rings and thought they could use some seasoning. The burgers didnt wow me. Lack of ambiance and being in a mall food court didnt add anything to the experience. read more

This place is one of the most kickass burger places I've ever been to. Despite being inside the increasingly grubby Westbrook mall it blows me away every time I eat there. They have great service, a great selection, great prices and can cater to your needs if you are vegetarian gluten free etc. If you fancy a burger joint like 5 guys or Clive burger on 17th then dragons lair is the place for you. The burger here is solid. The place is super clean, service was great and you can't beat the price. I had the 1/4lb cheeseburger meal with a poutine. They have plenty of options in terms of toppings and sauces including sauteed onions and mushrooms (!!!) and bacon jam (at a premium)! I was absolutely stuffed for only $12. There are also vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options, which is definitely a plus. The place definitely stands out in this super drab food court. After reading all the amazing reviews I decided to stop in here today. Burger was underwhelming with no flavour. Zero spices at all. Bun was nice and fresh though. Poutine was good though. The reason for the two star review was because the burger was just so bad. One thing too that I found unpleasant is the girl working the grill did not have her hair tied back and her hair was very long. Not that I found hair in the food but just a basic kinda food safety thing. The staff also kept handling with one glove on and one hand without glove. Staff was very pleasant though. read more

Very bad! Fries are grey and soggy, chicken burger burnt on outside raw in the middle. Burger very gross tasting. Toppings dried out. Owner wouldn't give money back for 23$ after staff serving raw and I mean raw food! Refused to call us back after we called him. No alberta health or business licence posted any were! The staff was very friendly and helpful and the veggie burger I ordered was fantastic! Was a little mushy and falling apart slightly, but it more than made up for that in flavour.
