This is such a nice authentic Vietnamese restaurant. We went during lunch which is always a nice…read moreexperience. The food came out pretty quickly and with such a great taste! We got Vietnamese iced coffees, crab rangoons, spring rolls, and pho. The pho I had was rich in flavor for the broth. You can tell it was boiled for awhile. The noodles were cooked perfectly! Not soggy at all and had a good bite to them. The veggies were nice and crisp too! Crab rangoons, I have no ill words for them. Just a standard rangoon that was well made. Not oily at all. Their peanut sauce that went with the spring rolls was thicker than the places that I am used to. I must say I actually prefer this locations peanut sauce over the ones I have had in my home state. 10/10! Will come again.

The staff was doing the best they could to keep up with the crowd, and everyone was friendly and courteous. The food was good overall. The pho had a good, flavorful broth, and the hủ tiếu mì khô was also well-seasoned with good flavor. They accidentally forgot our sweet potato dish, but with how busy they were, we decided not to wait any longer. The cà phê sữa đá was excellent--the balance of strong coffee and sweet condensed milk was just right. The bánh mì was decent as well. The bread was perfectly toasted and had a nice crust, though I do wish it had a little more meat. Overall, it was a good lunch experience. I think I'd come back after the crowds settle down a bit so we can try more of the menu at a more relaxed pace.

We thought we would try out a new pho restaurant, and while the flavors of our meal were very good,…read morewe're not sure that we would return. We did enjoy the shrimp, spring rolls, but were slightly disappointed that the peanut sauce was very watery. The menu had a good variety, but most of the dishes involved pork, very few involved chicken. Tofu dishes were also an option. The chicken pad Thai was very tasty; rather than cooking the dish to a persons heat specification, they just provide extra chili powder on the plate if you wanted to make it spicier. The main reason for the low review would be the cleanliness of the restaurant. On the table were a variety of spices and sauces in various containers, but they didn't look like they had been cleaned or changed in several uses, so we did not use or investigate to know exactly what things were.

When you walk in, the place is relatively quiet, but there's an unmistakeable smell that reminds me of vomit that lingers in the whole restaurant. I think it may actually be the varnish on the wooden tables, but it's everywhere and overwhelming. The spring rolls were fine, and the pho was relatively well seasoned and they were quite generous with the meat. I would continue to get take out from here, but there are better pho places in town.

Last fall I had an amazing Papaya Salad at a food court in St. Paul at The Hmong Village mall. I…read morehave been craving it ever since and for my birthday lunch this week I drove across the metro to this Lao restaurant to satisfy my craving. Khop Jai Der is a very small place with tables crowded together that made it difficult to navigate with my current and temporary situation of using crutches. I ordered the Papaya Salad and asked for moderate spice level. What I received looked nothing like my last fantastic salad. Very little sauce, a skimpy amount of papaya, pieces of cabbage that were way too large and a spice level that was way over-board. The female that brought my dish ignored me for the rest of my lunch even though she was sitting at the table next to me talking to her friends. I never got a water refill that I desperately needed and had to get up and maneuver my way to the restroom for napkins after deleting the two at the table because of severe sinus drain. I finally took 70% of my meal to the register and asked for a to-go box. I showed my Hmong co-worker the next day and he agreed that this was not the place to get what I craved. He brought me a homemade bowl of the greatest papaya salad for my lunch today so I finally did find redemption, but it wasn't from KJD. With an almost inedible $20+ lunch, inadequate and dismissive service while my digestive tract was on fire and a claustrophobic environment, I can't find a reason to recommend this place. The biggest let down that I've had in a very long time.

They were crisp and well stuffed, accompanied by a nice thick chili paste and soy sauce. I had the Pad Kua Mee - thick noodles, bean sprouts and scallions with a lovely sauce with just a hint of sweetness. The mango sticky rice was amazing and I would come back just for it! A wonderful little spot!
