Mango green tea with Boba and rice crispy treat
Jeanette C.

My husband and I had a wonderful experience. I ordered the chicken bowl with veggies and my husband ordered the chicken and steak bowl with veggies along with my Boba and treat. Overall the service was wonderful since I originally ordered the Thai tea, which did not taste good and I spoke to the manager and he offered me the other tea I was hoping to try, which was the mango green tea with Boba and that was absolutely delicious. I would highly recommend this location. As far as the ambience it looks like they are still working on the interior from being Waba Grill to the new ownership. I look forward to seeing how this business will grow. As for my photos, I would have taken a photo of our bowls, but we devoured them so quickly that all that was left was our drinks.

Outside doors

Place rules. It replaced Waba and it's basically a Waba dupe but a little better. Please go, they need support!

A bowl of cheap, tasteless and rubbery steak meat that cost me $12! Worst decision I ever made thinking they were anything like Waba.

The Chinese broccoli dish with crispy pork belly was just ok. Probably would not order that again, not because there was anything necessarily wrong with the dish but compared to the other dishes we had. We sat at the bar and service was average. When we finished eating we sat around for a long time and no one came up to us to ask if we wanted dessert or to clear our dishes. We also had to grab someone's attention to get the check and it took awhile for them to come back and process the payment. I would love to come back and try their khao soi as it's one of my favorite dishes.

They also have a little speakeasy area (seat there) and the ambiance over there was super cool and very intimate. Service is as great and the servers were very nice. Wagyu Bao: absolutely delicious Seared Hamachi: Hamachi was prepared to its perfection and the sauce was perfect. Just too much asparagus for me. We thought he forget to place our order. We were gonna place more food orders but we didn't want to wait. Our server was busy helping all the tables in the main dining room. The food was solid overall, although service could use some improvement. Taste & Quality: 4.2/5 The truffle salmon crudo was a highlight. The salmon came in thick, generous cuts with a smoky sauce and no fishy taste. However, compared to the fresh salmon sashimi, the main difference was the sauce, so I'm not sure the $4 upcharge was justified. The spicy miso ramen (4.1/5) had chewy, al dente noodles and a rich broth with noticeable mushroom and smoky flavors. I didn't get much miso flavor, and the soup was a little fatty, but there were plenty of bean sprouts. The chashu tom kha ramen (4.3/5) was my favorite of the ramen dishes. It had a satisfying hot and sour flavor, just like you'd expect from tom kha, with two regular-sized pieces of chashu. It was a little oily but tasty, and not particularly spicy. The truffle mushroom ramen (3.8/5) was thick and intensely umami. It's worth trying if you enjoy rich, heavy broths, though it wasn't my personal favorite. One thing to keep in mind: we ordered extra ramen noodles, but they arrived al dente while the soup had already cooled down, so they didn't soften much. I'd think twice before ordering a refill if your broth is already cooling. Service: 3.5/5 Service felt understaffed despite there being several workers on the floor. It seemed like only one person was consistently looking after our table, and she was frequently busy clearing dishes and refilling water. Whenever we requested something, the staff often had to make multiple trips before returning. Also, soy sauce wasn't provided at the table, so we had to ask for it. Atmosphere: 4.8/5 Great lighting, music, and overall ambiance, with subtle Halloween decorations that added to the experience. It's a great spot if you're looking for that signature Kei Concepts vibe. Value: 4.0/5 The salmon sashimi was fresh and served in thick cuts, making it a good alternative to the truffle salmon crudo if you're mainly after the fish itself. The $4 premium for the crudo is harder to justify when the sauce is the main difference. The ramen was enjoyable overall, but be mindful of ordering extra noodles if your broth cools quickly.

But I have dined at the Costa Mesa location last year and the flavor of the dishes were great! I remembered the filet mignon and fries dish was amazing with great flavors - today, there was something missing. The depth of flavor with this dish wasn't 100% there! It lacked flavor. The other dish I ordered was the beef and mushrooms! I remembered I enjoyed this dish a lot the last time I order at South Coast plaza location! It was made with rib-eye and it had a nice bite and flavor to it. Today, the menu called this beef and mushrooms and it was flavorful except , the tiny pieces of beef (not even rib-eye quality) was barley there! It was almost like a vegetarian dish with lots of mushrooms and onions and a little sprinkle of chopped end carne asada leftovers. It was VERY disappointing considering this dish cost $23 (up from $19 last year and it was made with quality rib-eye steak with a good bite). To the manager who is reading this feedback - please do better with the quality. Your name is your reputation and if you want returning customers, keep the quality of your dishes since you have already raised the prices on the menu. The beef and mushroom dish is not cutting it for $23 with barley any meat in the dish, it was more like minced, small finely diced pieces that has no bite or chew to it. And the filet mignon just lack a bit of flavor and quality. It used to be a lot more tender. 2 stars because the waiter was nice and took my dish away and took it off the check, since I wasn't really eating it; but, still didn't really offer any comp for something else to fill my tummy. It's ok, I wasn't looking for a free meal, but it would have been a nice gesture to offer a replacement on the house since the dish was disappointing and I didn't get to enjoy or eat my meal that I planned to chose this place for lunch.

We arrived to the shopping/restaurant plaza just prior to the opening of dinner service on a Saturday. Ample parking out front, blended exterior entrance to other businesses adjacent, and the interior was nicely minimalistic, clean, inviting, room between tables/other diners was good, a/c comfortable, music not intrusive to conversations, noise level would depend on volume of other diners, and we enjoyed the environment during our time there. We had concerns of wait time as our party consisted of 8 people but Momonoki accommodated us immediately. Service was excellent from the moment we entered to when we exited. Staff was attentive, friendly, and informative and the back of the house/kitchen was on point with getting orders out to table. We started with drinks and had a variety of appetizers which led to entrees. Salad was appealing and refreshing, appetizers were tasty, and overall we enjoyed the entrees (ordered all of the most popular and other choices available) as we kind of did family style so we tried everything. Came hungry so portion size initially looked average but our stomachs were full by the end of dinner. In totality, we liked the experience, service, and food on our first time visit. The lunch set seemed like such a good idea with the choice of appetizer, entree, and dessert. For four of us, we got two lunch sets and two more pastas. We read that the bread and butter was popular so we decided to try. It came with toasted sourdough with a nice thick butter with miso honey butter that was flavorful. We also got the garlic parmesan fries which was as expected, nice and crispy with grated parmesan on top. We got the miso bacon carbonara which had thick pieces of bacon and heavy creamy and flavorful with slightly spicy kick in the carbonara sauce. The cavatelli had a great depth of flavor without being overpowering from the mushroom sauce. The soy garlic noodles tasted pretty clean without being overly greasy with a slight kick as well from the chili crunch. We all ended with the strawberry lychee ice cream made in house that came with fruit pieces of both lychee and strawberry on the bottom. Lacks the smoothness of churned ice cream so it's more on the ice side but the fresh fruit complements it well. Overall pretty good lunch choice and not too crowded with great variety of options for lunch sets. Great place that is modern and stylish atmosphere to catch up with friends or family with lots of selection and shareable appetizers.
